Unannounced Mario, Zelda Switch Games Briefly Leaked By NewEgg – Forbes
Official Nintendo images of Mario, Link, and Switch 2Major retailers tend to know about things well in advance. Take Walmart, for example, which knowingly teased the imminent Switch 2 reveal earlier this month. Apparently Newegg would like to get in on the action, as the American electronics retailer has hidden an alleged lineup of new Nintendo games for 2025 in plain view on its website. As spotted earlier by X user @Stealth40K, if you happen to be browsing for a Nintendo eShop gift card on NewEgg, you’ll see a box-out with the usual disclaimers and restrictions. Things like the gift card only being valid with a United States Nintendo account, or the fact that the card’s balance can’t exceed $250. Oh, and the casual mention of a “New 3D Mario” and “Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster” slated for 2025.Newegg just casually listing some unannounced Nintendo games. By now everyone’s aware of the new Mario Kart via the short gameplay trailer that reveals the Switch 2’s massive performance upgrade, so that’s not surprising. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has already been publicly revealed for a March 2025 release date. And we know Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A exist, although neither have been officially confirmed for 2025. So that’s a bit more interesting. But the mention of a new 3D Mario game and a Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster alongside those known quantities certainly warrants a double take.Sure, it’s a fairly safe assumption that Nintendo would want to launch the Switch 2 alongside two of its heaviest-hitting franchises. The original Switch launched with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, although Super Mario Odyssey didn’t come along until 7 months later. Here’s what I think happens: We will indeed get a brand new 3D Mario game within three months of the Switch 2 launching. It will launch as a Switch game (Nintendo can’t ignore its massive install base there), but have enhancements of some kind that take advantage of the more powerful Switch 2. As for this alleged Zelda remake/remaster? My money’s on a remastered version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, complete with all of its DLC, in a shiny new package with upgraded graphics. It seems highly likely we’ll see all of these games that NewEgg mentions in an upcoming Nintendo Direct. It’s equally likely that several of these will release for the original Switch, and not be Switch 2 exclusives. However this shakes out, 2025 is shaping up to be an absolutely magical year for both Nintendo fans.UPDATE: Minutes after publishing this post, NewEgg has amended the listing to remove any mention of the new 3D Mario game and the Legend of Zelda remake, and that’s telling.
