Wednesday, January 29th, 2025It’s the saddest of days for The Voice: Ryan Whyte Maloney, a Team Blake Shelton standout back in Season 6 of NBC’s sing-off, has died by suicide at the age of 44, People magazine reports.

The native of Traverse City, Mich., vocalist always seemed drawn to music; by 9 years old, he was already playing the guitar, violin, cello and drums. In 2014, the up-and-comer earned a four-chair turn on The Voice from not only eventual coach Shelton but his rivals, Adam Levine, Shakira and Usher as well. You can check out his Blind Audition rendition of Journey’s “Lights” below.Whyte Maloney advanced from the first round of the Battles after turning in a winning performance of Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” That season, there were no Knockouts but instead a second round of Battles.
