The Rings Of Power Season 3 Officially Greenlit At Prime Video As Plot Synopsis Confirms Time Jump – Empire

Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and… now for a long-awaited but very much expected update on Amazon’s billion-dollar high fantasy epic The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. Yes, following the breathless Season 2 finale of Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne’s take on the marginalia of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, today Prime Video has officially confirmed that Season 3 of The Rings Of Power is in the works and well on its way.According to THR’s reporting, the third season of the streamer’s answer to Game Of Thrones is already in pre-production as we write, with filming due to get underway at the show’s new Shepperton Studios UK base this spring. And what’s more, after that massively consequential end to Season 2 — in which Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Charlie Vickers’ Sauron faced each other once more as the sacking of Eregion led to the founding of Rivendell and Middle-earth’s fate was left hanging ever more precariously in the balance — we’re in for a sizeable time jump for Season 3.The official logline for the upcoming third season reads as follows: “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.” Helping bring this pivotal chapter in The Rings Of Power — and Middle-earth’s history — to life are returning directors Charlotte Brändström and Sanaa Hamri, as well as The Walking Dead and The Boys regular helmsman Stefan Schwartz. We’ve no official word yet on returning cast, but we would be very surprised not to see the likes of Clarke and Vickers, Benjamin Walker’s Gil-galad, Daniel Weyman’s Gandalf, and Robert Aramayo’s Elrond returning alongside the rest of our fan favourites from across the races of men, elves, dwarves, Harfoots, and more. So, The Rings Of Power is officially returning. A big jump forward in the timeline is afoot. And Sauron is heading back to the forge, this time sans Celebrimbanner— er, Celebrimbor (*sigh*). With showrunners Payne and McKay never waivering from their assertion that they have all five seasons of TROP planned out, it’ll be fascinating to see just how much closer to The Last Alliance of Elves and Men Season 3 brings us. We wants it, preciousss… we needs it preciousssss…. *ahem* Er, anywho, if you want to get your mind racing with thoughts and theories as to where the next season is headed, then why not revisit our look back on the Season 2 finale?© 1962-2025 Bauer Media GroupBauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, Company number: 1394141; Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Company number: LP003328; Registered office: The Lantern, 75 Hampstead Road, London NW1 2PLAll registered in England and Wales.
