The Release Of ‘The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion’ Remake Is Reportedly Imminent – Forbes

ByPaul TassiByPaul Tassi, Senior Contributor. OblivionThe development of an Elder Scrolls: Oblivion remake was leaked back in 2023 by a supposed developer, but also in a court document shortly after. So, it seemed pretty clear it was happening, and the question was just, when? The answer may be now. Or very close to now.Multiple reports have surfaced in the past day from the likes of insider NatetheHate with VGC saying something similar. Nate says the Oblivion remake could be here before June. VGC says it may actually arrive next month. This is not some sort of full-on Bethesda project, rather it’s being developed by Virtuous, who has worked on loads of different high profile games, and their latest remake contribution besides this one is Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. This is a pretty elaborate project, with the entire game being remade in Unreal Engine 5, and a number of reworked gameplay systems that include:This may make you feel ancient, but the original Elder Scrolls: Oblivion was released in 2006, making this a project manifesting a full 19 years later. Given that, it’s no wonder that it has to be effectively remade in a modern engine, along with granting quality of life updates for aging systems. What we do not have is any sort of real look at what this is going to be like, though if this really is going to drop imminently, that’s either going to happen soon, or it will be a stealth release, as Xbox has been prone to do in the past. I haven’t seen what platforms this is confirmed for, but I’m going to say it’s a 95% chance it will be heading to PlayStation. I also believe it’s like a 90% chance that The Elder Scrolls 6 will launch there as well, given Microsoft’s latest strategies about multiplatform releases, and how they would no doubt want to sell 15+ million copies of the game on a different console, if they’ll be doing a Game Pass launch themselves. As for the Oblivion remake, expect more information soon, and if it’s a launch next month? That’s going to be pretty wild. Can’t wait to see what it’s like.Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
