The new Windows 11 update introduces the best bug the OS has ever had – XDA Developers

Most of the time, Windows bugs are a pain to deal with. However, once in a blue moon, Microsoft accidentally makes their operating system just that little bit better. If you’re not a fan of Copilot, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a bug with the March 2025 update that automatically deletes the AI assistant. Usually we hope that Microsoft fixes its bugs with efficiency and speed, but this time, maybe the company can take a few days off. Or weeks. Here are some essential PowerToys to use on Windows 11 to simplify your workflow. As spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft has silently updated the patch notes for the March 2025 update. Turns out, another issue has been added:Microsoft CopilotApplies to: All Users.SymptomsWe’re aware of an issue with the Microsoft Copilot app affecting some devices. The app is unintentionally uninstalled and unpinned from the taskbar.Note: This issue has not been observed with the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.WorkaroundMicrosoft is working on a resolution to address this issue. In the meantime, affected users can reinstall the app from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it to the taskbar.Yes, you read that correctly. A new bug in Windows 11 erases Copilot and unpins it from your taskbar. If you want it back, you can head to the Microsoft Store and redownload it. So, essentially, the bug put Windows 11 in a state where users can opt into downloading Copilot instead of having it come pre-installed, which makes this bug the most user-considerate that Microsoft has been in years, even if it was accidental. If you’re wondering why Microsoft has been so adamant about having Copilot on your PC, it’s because the AI assistant appears to be the driving force behind the company’s recent revamp. In Microsoft’s ideal world, every one of its apps and services comes with a Copilot button which people can invoke whenever they have questions or get stuck on something. It’s gotten so bad that Microsoft 365 has recently been rebranded to “Microsoft 365 Copilot” and all of the old Office icons changed to Copilot logos, which we dubbed one of the worst Microsoft rebrands ever.A few days ago, we caught wind of why Microsoft is so hell-bent on adding Copilot to everything: advertisements. It seems that the company wants to replicate the brick-and-mortar store experience with its AI assistant and allow brands to add their own agents to guide people into making a purchase. It seems that Microsoft’s strategy is to get people hooked on Copilot as their main source of information, and then drip-feed advertisements to gain revenue. As such, we’ll probably see this very funny bug fixed before the end of the week.If the Copilot integration made you regret upgrading to Windows 11, you’re not alone. Our very own Megan Ellis also noted Copilot as one of the main reasons she regrets making the jump.We want to hear from you! Share your opinions in the thread below and remember to keep it respectful.Your comment has not been savedMicrosoft’s continued push to add bloat and remove customer choice has convinced me to switch to Linux on my main personal system. At work where I deal with system design, I find MS just as bad. I feel the poor quality of their products has led to my continued employment, so perhaps I shouldn’t complain too much, but they’re never going to be my recommendation. Here’s to someone breaking down the update and finding the scripts that can remove copilot on a regular basis. 🤣Tbh, I’m glad this is a known bug, because I really thought there was something wrong with my computer. I watched the Copilot icon disappear twice!I opted out of Co-Pilot in Office 365 and saved a bunch of moneyI lost everything on my hard drive after the most recent update. BSOD after BSOD after BSOD. 😄Your very own Megan Ellis also noted Copilot as one of the main reasons she regrets making the jump.So you’re saying that an app you can unpin and forget make you reconsider a whole operating system? What a joke. Also for everyday use, copilot does the job. For being a tech site your advise is pretty lame.✕Thank you. I have been using copilot a lot and it’s a mixed blessing. It helps me most of the time so I guess people that use their PC only for entertainment won’t miss copilot. I for one would bring it back as soon as possible.I don’t think this was for advice so much as, “this thing happened, here are my thoughts about it”Do you enjoy being wrongI bought a Laptop and asked for Win10 but got Windows 11. But it’s good that I won’t be using that as my main computer. You would think that by now Microsoft would be good at this.I understand AI being shoved in everywhere is annoying, but I barely notice co pilot on my windows instance and have to go looking for it for the few times I want to use it. People just like to complain about windows I think. Also no one cares if you switched to Linux. You do you, and let me do me. Leave the emotional venting in the unsent folder please. Yet here you are complaining about people who express their opinion. If you don’t care and want to be let do yourself, don’t complain about what others say and let them be. LolMicrosoft’s strategy may worsen the already subpar state of e-waste.Its arguments don’t hold water.Microsoft needs a way to convince Windows 10 users to upgrade, and the 24H2 update may be it.There goes a ton of ink. Hope you didn’t need it!Don’t get too excited. It’s not just another update
