The ‘GTA 6’ Release Date Window Narrowed By The ‘Borderlands 4’ Release Date – Forbes
GTA 6/Borderlands 4I think it’s safe to say that yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play did not exactly blow anyone away with too many of its reveals, and in fact, it was a lot of third party, non-exclusive stuff that was featured.One of those games was Borderlands 4, which debuted a new gameplay trailer, but also confirmed its release date, and given that it’s seven months away, any delay would have to be pretty last minute at this point.I do believe the announced release date may offer at least some sort of clue to the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date, which may sound dumb on the surface, but I think it cuts the potential window for release in half.Borderlands 4’s release date is September 23, 2025. GTA 6 has been routinely promised for fall 2025, not just to fans, but Take Two has repeatedly emphasized to investors that’s the case, and you don’t exactly want to disappoint them, of course.Borderlands 4But the point here is that Take Two bought Gearbox from Embracer, and Borderlands 4 is now their game. A big game, given the history of the series and the fact fans have been waiting six years for a new entry in the series. Though of course, not anywhere close to as big as GTA 6.What I think you can take away from this is that September is out. Even if GTA 6 was going to debut say, two weeks ahead of Borderlands 4, that would still hurt that game to some extent given how massive the GTA release is going to be.So that leaves October, and I think they’d want to give Borderlands 4 some breathing room as its second big release in the fall, so that may push GTA to mid-October, at the earliest. Suddenly a “fall 2025” release date is now a month and a half span rather than a three month one, and December should be out as they’re not saying it’s that quarter, but specifically “fall.”GTA 6As for other games competing in that area, Take Two and Rockstar don’t care. GTA 6 has no competition. The only reason to dance around Borderlands 4 is because it’s their own game and they don’t want to eclipse it with the biggest release of the last decade coming out too close to it.I still have a gut feeling that GTA 5 will be delayed into 2026, and if it is, it could still be out before the fiscal year is over which may not make investors too upset.
