‘Say Anything’ star Ione Skye cheated on ex-husband Adam Horovitz with a woman — and he caught her – New York Post

Ione Skye is coming clean about her sordid love affair that was the “beginning of the end” of her marriage to Beastie Boys rapper Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock.In her new book, “Say Everything: A Memoir,” out now, the actress, 54, who made a name for herself in the 1980s with the thriller “River’s Edge” and Cameron Crowe’s beloved teen romance “Say Anything,” confessed that her hip-hop star now-ex-husband once caught her and another woman canoodling in their swimming pool — a moment she said made her feel as if she’d “just witnessed a car crash.”Describing herself as a serial cheater during her seven-year marriage to Horovitz, Skye detailed how she had several flings with females — but one affair with a woman named Mai Lei changed everything.“I couldn’t stop watching her on the dance floor,” she writes of her first impression of Lei, noting that she had a “rambunctious energy” and “a very fit body.”“Within minutes, I could tell we’d get together and it would be different with her,” she writes. While a previous female lover “felt dangerous and unreal” to her, “Mai Lei felt solid and down-to-earth.” Skye calls their time together “the true beginning of the end of my marriage.”“Within days of meeting, Mai Lei and I felt like a real couple,” she recalls.“If you’ve never cheated, I admire you, but I really don’t expect you to understand why I would do what I was doing to the love of my life. I still don’t truly understand it myself.”The affair blossomed while Horovitz was on tour, though the actress admitted she was no less faithful to Lei than her husband. “I wasn’t loyal to her (there were other girls too),” she writes. “I loved her, thought her smile lit up the world. From the inside, I liked the life-within-a-life I had with her.“The relationship felt so easy and natural,” Skye continues but confesses that she “started getting sloppy” and bringing Lei over to the house she shared with the rocker, who caught them red-handed in January 1996.“I heated the pool and Mai Lei and I spent several decadent hours splashing and playing, floating and talking,” she recalls. At one point, “[Mai Lei] swam to me in the shallow end and I took her in my arms, holding her like a bride — the way Adam had held me in the pool at Le Parc the night he asked me to move in with him. Then I saw a figure in the house. The water went cold. Adam,” she shares.“He stood just inside the glass doors that opened from our bedroom to the back patio and the pool,” Skye remembers. “Mai Lei hadn’t seen him yet. She was still prone in my arms, black hair fanned in the water, talking in the fast, excited voice of a twenty-three-year-old girl telling a good story. I waved to Adam. He didn’t wave back, just turned and walked into the next room. I felt like throwing up in the pool.”According to Skye, that was when Mai Lei realized what had just happened.“‘Was that Adam? Oh my God, was that Adam?’” Skye recalls her lover saying. “Mai Lei leapt from my arms like a giant coppery fish, splashed up the steps, and grabbed her clothes.“I couldn’t speak. I felt as if I’d just witnessed a car crash, and Adam had been in the car. As if the world were ending. I was so, so afraid.”After Lei left, the actress writes she “finally got the courage to go inside, Adam said nothing, just held me as I sobbed and dripped onto his shoulder.”Skye shares that she repeatedly apologized.“What else was there to say, if I couldn’t say it would never happen again?” she recalls. “Now that he’d seen it, it was real. There was no more speaking in code, so we didn’t speak at all, just retreated to different sides of the house, each of us processing, mourning. I’d finally broken us.”Skye and Horovitz married in 1992 — and eventually divorced in 2000.She went on to marry Aussie rocker Ben Lee in 2008.Skye’s female trysts aren’t the only relationships she spilled about in her book. She revealed she had sex with her “Say Anything” co-star John Cusack years after the 1989 teen rom-com — post-divorce from Horovitz.Apparently, Cusack wasn’t happy after reading about what she wrote regarding their romp. He reportedly texted her, “You made the experience sound so meh! It wasn’t ‘meh’ for me.”“I was like, ‘I’m telling a story, and it was more about how all of our chemistry was in our working together and stimulating each other’s minds, not sleeping together!’” Skye told People magazine, adding, “I felt a little bad, but, oh well.”Skye also shared details about her relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, whom she started dating when she just 16 and he was 24, her unsuccessful attempt to woo Keanu Reeves and so much more.Advertisement
