Rumour: Insider Claims That Halo: Master Chief Collection Will Come To ‘Switch 2’ – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpAlong with Flight SimulatorUpdate [Sat 11th Jan 2025, 1pm]: Windows Central’s Jez Corden has backed up these claims as “most likely true” but also added that “Microsoft isn’t stopping there” – suggesting “more” Xbox first-party titles are likely going multiplatform in the future, with the possibility of other releases for Nintendo platforms:”According to Mr. Hate, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection are both slated for the multiplatform treatment, with each game launching on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. I can corroborate independently with our own sources that all of the above is most likely true. It seems that Microsoft isn’t stopping there, though.”…I’ve heard that in addition to the above Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and potentially Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition are all also slated for PlayStation 5 this year too, although I’m unsure if that includes the Nintendo Switch 2. I would expect that it most likely does, if I had to guess that part.”Original Story: Known insider Nate the Hate has claimed in a new podcast that Microsoft will further its multiplatform ambitions in 2025 by bringing both Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator to the ‘Switch 2’ and the PS5.The insider – who previously correctly claimed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would eventually come to PS5 in 2025 following its release on Xbox – elaborated on his statement and said “any [Xbox] game that comes out this year will at some point find its way to PS5 and/or Switch 2, it’s just a matter of when”.He claimed that Microsoft will be a very big supporter of the upcoming Switch 2 and will be porting its current Switch titles, i.e. Pentiment, Grounded, etc, with upgraded resolution and features. It’s no surprise that Microsoft is shifting its strategy somewhat to embrace more multiplatform support after its struggles to grow its own user base, but this is the perhaps the clearest indication yet as to the extent of its plans.Halo, in particular, will be a significant release on the Switch 2 given the franchise’s status as a significant Xbox exclusive, with many holding it as possibly Xbox’s most important IP alongside Gears of War. The Master Chief Collection originally launched in 2014 and contains Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: Reach. In the meantime, we’ve all still got our fingers crossed for an official Switch 2 reveal in the coming weeks. Nintendo has opted to stay relatively quiet on the recent leaks relating to the console, but recently stated that accessory maker Genki’s model of the Switch Successor was “not official”.Halo, is it me you’re looking for? What do you make of this? Well, now…Look who suddenly became eligible for Smash Bros. That would be awesome!!! Can see a whole raft of Xbox games coming to Switch. Xbox will make mega money from doing third party and will sell loads on Switch 2.Forza would be great on Switch 2Superb if true. I would buy both.Playing Flight Simulator while on a flight would be an experience. Hopefully they bring Forza and Gear of War over too. Or even better, Gamepass. But that’s unlikely to happen.Seems like a stretch, but ill believe it when i see it. I would certainly welcome it though. If the Switch 2 rumored specs are in line with the Xbox Series S, that could be a game changer for third parties on Nintendo. Of course, proper optimization would be key.Good to know MS thinks a game collection that came out a decade ago in 2014 will run on Switch 2.@OorWullie Big question here is internet access, because the maps are so huge that the files are not stored locally on your Xbox, but streamed from MS servers.i love how we re gonna even know what games are coming before nintendo finally do something”Known insider” indeed. Nate the Hate is about as credible as your average politician. As cool as this would be (being a big fan of Halo), I will believe it when I see it. Again, I don’t want to get hyped up by the rumor mill, only to be sorely disappointed.Removed – unconstructive feedback@Mirastrix Here talked a lot about Switch Pro for a long time, which never materialised, true. But he insists that his information was credible, and Nintendo killed it for an unknown reason.Long story short: If you hear confidential information from inside a company, it is likely that many things are wrong, because a lot of stuff is cancelled during development (personal professional experience).I realise you need ‘news’ for your feed, but it’s just becoming a rumour mill here. I’m getting Switch 2 rumour fatigue.@Max_the_German Well, he would claim that his information was credible, because it showed him for the blatant liar that he is.I also have a good feeling about this. The world is going to see it in the trailer and poop their pants lol if Switch 2 gets GTA6, and the missing sports games, the console war is over.It will be interesting to see if we see a load of cloud games on the Switch Pro. (2)@Mirastrix Yeah TBF Nate is a twitAnother nauseating article giving credibility to grifters like Nate. This doesn’t qualify as a rumour. He’s making predictions in a Switch 2 predictions video. That’s all.INSTANT BUYAlso, I am a Halo 4 defender and always will be.The problem with this word ‘Insider’ is that they are not insiders. They just ordinary people like us that make shed loads of guesses across 13 months and maybe 1 or 2 come off.Thats not inside information , it’s more law of averages. They should think about getting one of those things called a job.@splinters agreed, sensationalist garbage at this point. This site needs to give it a rest until it has proper news because all it’s doing at the mo is whipping people up.Will believe it when I see it and even more so considering it’s from Nate the Hate, but I’d love to see that happen for all those who wanted Halo on a Nintendo system – even I might give them at least a try in that case despite not being the biggest fan of FPS games (as much as I’m overall enjoying Prime Remastered that hasn’t changed, still much prefer third person ones)!Of course, happy also for those interested in Flight Simulator if it happens. Please don’t give me that hopeYES! I played the first two on my original Xbox, and the second one ended on a cliff hanger, never got a 360 so never carried on the story.
But I think people are really grasping at straws now.
My uncle who has a friend who’s brother’s cousin works at Microsoft confirmed thisThis is an Xbox.Never played Halo but would give it a try if it actually comes to Switch 2please stop the switch 2 rumors. i cant stand it anymoreYou wonder why Xbox are making their own handheld (or any platform) when they want to put all their games on everything else.No one noticed in the UK how Xbox console stock is not being restocked both consoles.Currys no stock online and in store.Game no s stock at all only a few x.Smyths toys no online stock at all, most stores no x or s stock.Argos running low for delivery to certain areas.Amazon from Amazon UK, no stock of any, advising maybe 1 to 3 months. No trillion dollar company lets this happen by accident. Why are Microsoft letting stock run dry.It would be really funny if Microsoft and ActivisionBlizzard gave Switch 2 owners an offline, open-sandbox edition of World of Warcraft.Nate also said that FF7 Remake and Rebirth are coming to Switch 2, why is that not reported?@Drachma We’re as fatigued as you all are, believe me. We want nothing more than for Nintendo to just announce this thing and get it over with. But the reality is that rumours will inevitably precede a reveal, and we have an obligation to report on those that we think might have an air of legitimacy. It’ll be over soon, my friend. While I’d be over the moon to get Halo on Switch, I think the real question is whether the Fable games will get the same treatment. Because, what I wouldn’t give to play through them again (especially Fable II).Get Rare Replay over there and then I’ll get excited, if only for the Jet Force Gemini with better controls. But this is cool if true nonetheless. If this is true then they would be harming themselves when/if they release a handheld down the line. They came into the market to take over and only ever been second place with the original xbox and third with evety other system@GVIL They did sell better than the Wii U around 10 years ago though (whatever their system going directly up against the Wii U was – Edit: it was the Xbox One and PS4 the Wii U was up against, as Nintendo did a kind of Xbox 360 releasing the Wii U one year prior to the competition – then the Wii U bombed and was followed by the Switch 4 years later, which kind of messed the “system” up, with Nintendo now releasing new hardware when PS and MS are mid-gen).My uncle works for Nintendo and he gave me a Switch 2 for Christmas.I can’t show any concrete proof though, because of reasons. But trust me when I say the games on the system are amazing, and the UI is top notch and awesome.Yes yes, just like the clickbait crap about XBOX GamePass and XBOX Cloud gaming coming to Nintendo Switch. We all know how all that turned out.Snowball’s chance in hell of it being on a damn cartridge though. I would love to be proven wrong.”B-b-but microSD caRdS aRe So ChEAp!”I’d rather put $10 toward a higher capacity cartridge that serves as a complete product (that also wouldn’t require installation, unlike discs on rival hardware) over a massive download that’s going to occupy $10 worth (or more) of my microSD card’s storage (and repeat that storage burden for any additional consoles in my possession), which ultimately costs the end-user noticeably more.@Olliemar28 maybe compile them into one article, “here’s the current rumours doing the rounds, take them with a pinch of salt…” Might work. A containment article perhaps?Fallout 3/NV/4, Avowed, Outer Worlds Spacers Choice, and Fable 1-3 please and thank you!@BaldB3lper78 I heard Forza Horizon 5 is rumored to go multiplatform. PS5 and MAYBE Nintendo Switch 2.Thats the only one I want to go mulitplatform tbh.I would cry such tears of joy if this happened. The Halo games were the first games that my wife and I ever played together. They broke the ice and brought us a lot closer together. And it could possibly give the chance for my ultimate dream to come true: Master Chief for Smash Bros.I’ll absolutely buy it if true, though I’m only about 40%/60% on that being the case.@SillyG To fit the entire Master Chief Collection on a cartridge, you would need a 128GB capacity cartridge.Even the cheapest 128GB MicroSD card is too expensive (and would have too slow performance as well). It would eat too much in the profits. So, IF it even comes to the Switch 2, it will be download only. Unless for some miracle Nintendo uses a new much cheaper (and better performing) storage medium for the Switch 2 cartridge.I know the new MicroSD Express standard supports up to 800MB/s and (if you can get hold of it) you can buy a 128GB Sandisk sample card for around 80 bucks.Even if Nintendo orders a high volume, you will still be looking at at least 20-25 bucks per card. It’s just too expensive.
That is more than the current 32GB cards for the Switch, which Game distributors refused to use already.A multilayer BluRay (up to 128GB capacity) costs just a couple bucks (even less when they order and print several million game copies). This is just a serious downside of the Cartridge format. It worked fine for the old small handheld consoles that had low resolution screens, like the DS and 3DS. So texture resolution was very low and as result the games required very little storage space. It’s ok all is ok, someone has worked it out for me why UK don’t seem to be restocking Xbox consoles. They are making room for Switch 2 shelf space 🤣Microsoft /xbox games will do great on switch. Especially the : Killerinstinct, banjo, Conquer and perfect dark. Those will sell like hot cakes straight from the oven. Halo will also do great, so yes it would be a very smart move from MS. And with the 10 years Call of duty deal, future is bright haha.@anoyonmus Pretty much all Xbox games will go multi platform. Xbox want cloud and make money from sales on other platforms.I grow tired of all this endless speculation. Wouldn’t it be nice if the press actually reported fact based on solid evidence? What a world this would be if people could just be honestI just realized that I’ve not played a single shooter on Switch other than Splatoon. I’d probably pick up a Halo collection to scratch that occasional itch. This is the older version of Flight Simulator from 2020 I believe, which was a bit of a hog for SSD space. Don’t think I’d double dip on that one, especially since the 2024 version is out (albeit a bit broken at times).I will FORE SURE be getting MCC on Switch, simply for the split screen goodness.Heck! Bring on Forza Horizon! Even Forza Horizon 2 is freaking great! In some ways, I like it better than newer Horizons. My god though, I bet Switch 2 WON’T have analog triggers for racing games again. Nintendo BETTER make a pro controller with analog triggers. How is a console from japan, the land of drifting, not making official controllers with analog triggers. Nintendo loves making quirky controller accessories, yet still skips analog triggers. @Nintendolife if you catch any wind of an official switch 2 pro controller with analog triggers for racing games, that would make for a nice headline. (edit: Forgive me. I guess I don’t need to tell you that.😁)@Jeronan honestly, I think most fans would be fine with separate releases for all five games if that’s the case.I love the chaos that is all these rumors and leaks. The anticipation for new consoles is always an exciting time.As I have said in the past, it’s okay to enjoy and partake in all the speculation. But at the end of the day, be mature and keep things in perspective that they may not be true and move on. I also don’t know why some get so up in arms over rumors and leaks.@WoomyNNYes Yeah there better be analog triggers on Switch 2 controllers.Idk about previous Forza Horizon games because of licensing issues and all that.We want Master chief in Super smash BrothersYaya Switch 2 is gonna be alot Modern Game with Huge BundleThis would be awesome as a Halo fan, I love the Master Chief Collection, so many great campaigns and fun multiplayer. I wouldn’t mind Infinite coming to the Switch 2 too. This might be a long shot tho, but Indiana Jones would be amazing.@anoyonmus Ohhhh, crap. licensing. I forgot already. Yeah, that probably rules out Horizon 2, or older Horizons.@Erigen I hope so, but I doubt they’ll let the Sergeant be playable due to his cigAR.The world is changing, kids. I figure Indy could make the jump and that’s what makes me want to hold off on buying it for Xbox. That’d be a worthy Skyrim substitute in the announcement trailer. Halo 3/Reach were a massive part of my teen years, and having them on a modern console without having to buy an Xbox for them like I did the first time would be great.Halo: Combat Evolved really was something else when it came out in 2001 and is possibly the best game on the OG Xbox (I did play, and finish, its sequel, but felt it was just more of the same and was quite bored with it).The good thing to say about this particular collection is that it is the Bungie developed Halos that are on here (and not the 343 Industries ones). It’s not for me though as I burned out on the series more than 20 years ago.@Olliemar28
Ok, I just hope it’s sooner than later and I understand the difficulty of deciding on what to report and what not, especially if there are not many switch related news right now.
But there are so many headlines @_@What a wild time to be a gamer, booting up Halo 2 on my future Switch 2.If Microsoft takes their time porting and adds lots of Switch 2’s exclusive upscaling features to Halo 1-3, then this could become the quintessential HaloMCC experience, hilariously enough.@WoomyNNYes Horizon 5 MAY come to Switch 2 though. That’d be great! I just hope it isn’t with some stupid “You need to sign in with a Microsoft account” type crap. They did that with the Master Collection on PC, Sony and Ubisoft do it to, and it’s so stupid. Like, sure it’s free, but I’m already paying to play these games. Putting them behind an additional barrier to entry like an account is just annoying.@Max_the_German I never knew that, makes sense though. It will likely need to be connected to mobile data or WiFi if playing handheld then. Does it have an offline mode? There may not be many Xbox fans among Switch players but let’s agree we would all love to see Halo on a Nintendo platform.I’m starting to think we might benefit from applying the economics concepts supply-side and demand-side to consumer psychology. Does industry promote these rumors and leaks to maintain our attention during a news drought so we don’t all get impatient and become rock climbers instead? Or do fans get antsy waiting to hear aaaaannnnyyyything that we eat these up, incentivizing increased supply?is there a way to filter the RUMOUR tag out of my feed? I genuinely could not care less. ✌️He also said Final Fantasy 7 Remake and ReBirth are coming to the Switch 2.@Thomystic there might be some truth to that yes!!! I don’t remember seeing this many rumours leaks and what not for a device@OorWullie As far as I know, it is always-online for all relevant game modes, streaming the polygon models and textures and the real local weather of your vietual position in the world. It’s the only series I’d buy an Xbox for, so this would be fantastic.@Jeronan : Based on the size of the Xbox One version, they could potentially drop the quality of the textures/cutscenes to bring the game down to a (theoretical) 64GB cartridge, particularly if the game is only supported at 1080p. We’ve seen more drastic reductions in file size for Switch ports, so perhaps history could repeat itself here. It’s also worth considering that it shouldn’t cost quite as much to manufacture a ROM cartridge (which is also larger in size) than a rewriteable microSD card. Either way, it’s all wishful thinking on my end, and unless Nintendo changes their policy to forbid the practice, scummy third parties will continue to produce substandard “physical” releases. It’s insane that third parties remain averse to using 32GB cartridges when their costs should have decreased drastically over the last 8 years since the launch of the original Switch. On the topic of Blu-rays, standard variants have a maximum capacity of 50GB. Likewise, UHD Blu-rays are capped at 100GB.The 128GB discs you’re talking about are among the obscure Blu-ray XL format (which is closer, if not indistinguishable to the standard Blu-ray, spec-wise), but these were never widely available (mostly in Japan), with extremely limited support, intended for long-term data storage, as opposed to movie playback (as most players do not support it, and no movies were released for the format, that I am aware of anyway).I’ve noticed that Sony have since emblazoned the packaging of BD-XL discs with “4K” to serve as a selling point, but these are not blank UHD discs, which currently do not exist (most unfortunately), and even Sony’s own UHD players will not read XL discs, despite being one of the format’s leading manufacturers. So I find that it’s useful to ignore this format when discussing Blu-ray discs as it will only serve to confuse those less familiar with the format(s). It would be like going around claiming that the maximum capacity of DVDs is 17GB, which is true only of the extremely rare double-sided, quadruple layered variant, when the most commonly available writeable variants are 4.7GB and 8.5GB.I’m not confident that blank UHD discs will ever materialise, but the second they do, I’ll be first in line.@OldGamer999 Xbox going third party? It’s an angle…Sony selling games on PC (third party)? I thought Nintendo was supposed to go third party. Somebody’s losing money…@WiltonRoots No, let’s keep Nintendo as they are creating amazing best quality AAA games for a single system, the switch 2.Having Halo on the go would be so damn amazing.I would not classify Nate The Hate as an industry insider. He’s more a wishful thinkerMore titles I’ve no interest in.What is the difference between Halo 3 and Halo 3 DOST?I’d love to see all the good Halo games on Switch.@Spider-Kev They’re different games with different campaigns. You play as a regular guy in ODST and not Master Chief.@SillyG That is why I said up to 128GB.PS5 and XBOX series X games are still pressed on 50GB BluRay and larger games that don’t fit on a single disc, come on two discs.
They also can get away with it, since the discs are just for initial storage and games can be pressed on these discs in heavily compressed format, since you can’t play directly from disc and always need to install the games on your console first. Since BluRay read speeds are just too slow.
That is also why PS5 and XBOX Series X come standard with 1TB NVMe m.2 storage. It’s also extremely cheap for the Game publishers, since 50GB BluRays cost under a dollar. So even if they have to press their game on 2 BluRay discs, its less than 2 dollars in cost. This is why gaming cartridges are just so outdated and have a huge downside in todays demanding games.
Of course BluRay for a hybrid console like the Switch is out of the question. The Switch 2 will support 4K (via NVidia DLSS upscaling), so you will look at PS4/XBox One game sizes ( 50-70GB average ).If publishers already refuse to use 32GB Switch cartridges due to too high cost, you can completely forget to convince them to consider the even more expensive 64GB size.So Nintendo will have to pull some technical miracle out of their hat with the Switch 2 and come with an updated cartridge solution that offers both better performance and at a much lower cost.Another route could be for the Switch 2 to come standard with 1TB NVMe m.2 storage, so demanding games that take up a large chunk of space can just be offered digitally via download.I know the physical crowd will cry foul over this, but this is just a reality we need to accept for a hybrid console that offers both docked and handheld gaming.Modern games become more demanding and take up more and more storage. The technology is just not there yet to produce cartridges with high enough capacity and performance at a very low price that Publishers demand to consider a physical release.Probably Hi Fi Rush on Switch 2.I’ve seen the rumours.I’m more willing to believe that Final Fantasy VII Remake & Rebirth will be on the Switch 2 due to Square Enix’s desire to broaden their horizons. But let’s wait and see.Would be pretty cool I guess. I already own MCC but maybe I’d double dip@Jeronan expect many switch 2 third party games to require a large download..@BishopShiozawa it would be interesting if these games come to switch 2 would they sell well i’m not confident they will.. i think many have lost favor for final fantasy games..Halo isn’t for me but Oblivion and flight simulator are! Would love portable versions of those…When did this site become SpeculationLife all of a sudden? Now give us diddy kong racing, donkey kong 64 and banjo kazooie remastered physical editionsMetroid – Halo crossover game, can we dream about thatNate the Hate is not an “insider”. Heck, he got more things wrong than right (he has a friend on Ubisoft who leaks for him and for everyone).Plus, this is the same nate that had to apologize because his “leak” of CoD on Switch did not happened. He also said Metroid Prime Trilogy would be launched. Nintendo 64 Mini. StarFox GP…He just want to boost his brand with educated guesses. He never, NEVER, leaked or got anything right from NCL.@Olliemar28 you guys must be salivating at all the engagement these non-reporting is getting. Be better and stop spreading misinformation.I’d buy it only if it were physical. Digital – count me and my $$$ out tyvm. This was my hot take prediction for 2025. I’d still find this hilarious if it ever came true!Master Chief collection is like over 100 gigs so Nintendo better start producing larger carts. My uncle, who works at Nintendo as a janitor, confirmed this to me!11!!Waking up with more and more Switch 2 rumors now feels like a nightmare.@Olliemar28 Come on now. Who do you think we are? Stupid?Don’t stoop so low with an excuse like that and just admit why you do it.Clickbait and spreading misinformation / rumors delivers clicks = money!Simple is that. You don’t need to beat around the bush. We know how it works.@Jeronan Sorry you feel that way! Thanks for reading the article. Why do people think the Switch 2 isn’t going to improve physical game storage when it’s pretty consistently been what they’ve done for successor systems? The 3DS cartridge can store more than the DS. A Wii U disc is superior to a Wii disc. I expect Switch 2 cartridges will make a similar leap@coolioam Indiana Jones is probably a given even if the most conservative estimates of the Switch 2’s performance are what pan out. My understanding is that it runs on id Tech 7, and that engine is one of the best optimized out there now. Ray tracing apparently shouldn’t even be an issue, either, since it sounds like the Switch 2 will be capable of it thanks to some of the Nvidia tech inside. Only real question is if they’ll cap it at 30fps, which the Steam Deck version runs at, or if DLSS and potential unknowns about the hardware (5nm vs. 8nm?) can push it up to 60fps (maybe for a dedicated performance mode, if nothing else?)
