Rosie O’Donnell Reveals The Moment That Sparked Trump’s 20-Year Grudge – HuffPost

Senior ReporterRosie O’Donnell is looking back at where Donald Trump’s grudge against her began. The comic talked about how the president of the United States influenced her recent move to Ireland during an appearance on Irish network RTÉ’s “The Late Late Show” on Friday.Asked what prompted her decision to jump across the pond, O’Donnell explained how and why Trump “has it out for me and has for 20 years.”According to the former talk show host, the feud all started when she “told the truth” about the then-reality TV star during an episode of “The View.”“I mentioned his bankruptcies and I mentioned all of the sexual assault charges and I mentioned that he was not, in fact, the businessman that everyone thinks he is because of the show, ‘The Apprentice,’ where they sold a bunch of lies to America for over 10 years and half of America believed it,” she recounted.“And so he was very angry to say the least, and he hasn’t let it go,” the “Now and Then” actor said. “And he sort of uses me as a punchline whenever he feels the need.”Even official duties haven’t stopped Trump from expressing his disdain for O’Donnell. When Trump hosted Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin at the White House earlier this month, a reporter decided to ask the leader, “Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she’s going to lower your happiness levels.”Though the question had little to do with diplomatic matters, Trump chimed in to tell the journalist, “Thank you, I like that question.”While Martin brushed off the query, the U.S. president then asked the prime minister if he was familiar with O’Donnell. After receiving a no, Trump then told the taoiseach he was “better off” not knowing who she is.O’Donnell told RTÉ’s Patrick Kielty that the entire exchange was “surreal” for her to witness and that she was dismayed at how disrespectful the question was to prime minister Martin.“I felt very troubled that they put the taoiseach in that position and didn’t treat him with the respect that a leader of that kind deserves when he’s visiting The White House,” she said.O’Donnell said she was so mortified that she reached out to Martin with a personal apology.“I wrote the taoiseach with a little note of apology to his email and got a note back that they had received it and thanked me,” she said. “But I just wanted him to know the history and what happened and why he seems to be out to get me in ways that are startling to most.”While O’Donnell is still unsettled by Trump’s fixation on her, she said she’s happy to be making a fresh start in the country of her ancestors.“It’s really felt like home since I’ve been here,” she told Kielty.Earlier this month, O’Donnell took to TikTok to reveal what it would take for her and 12-year-old daughter Dakota to move back to the states.“I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country, and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she said. We’re bringing you the exclusives, scoops and hot takes on the news all your friends are talking about.
