Here’s what he had to say:Shuhei Yoshida: “I thought the Switch 2 announcement could have been a larger reveal, it turned out to be kind of [a] sneak reveal or just a confirmation… ‘this is Switch 2’ and I am surprised there are not many surprises.””…a leak is very disappointing right, even if it’s for other companies you know, I feel very sorry, you know when that happens – and you know, as a person, I like to be surprised.”What did surprise Yoshida was the Joy-Con’s mouse-like feature, which he thinks could pair up with games like Call of Duty now that the series has announced its return to Nintendo platforms. He also hopes Nintendo has something else up its sleeve for the April Direct:”The only surprise to me was that mice thing that they showed…I thought because the Switch 2 is more powerful and Call of Duty is coming, so people might want to play FPS with mice, but hopefully, because it’s Nintendo they use it in some more you know…amazing way, something that people wouldn’t anticipate.”So I hope the next show, the beginning of April one, they will reveal something that’s still hidden to us about Switch 2.”Nintendo is yet to officially confirm Switch 2 Joy-Con doubling as a mouse, although it does seem like there’s an optical sensor built into the new controllers. The Switch 2 Direct broadcast will air on 2nd April 2025. Yoshida’s comments follow former PlayStation exec Shawn Layden sharing his thoughts about the Switch 2 reveal and the new device’s name.”Why would you mess with that?”Followed by a hands-on tourXbox’s Phil Spencer confirmsFlexing that backward compatibilityHow are you feeling about the Switch 2 reveal now? What are you hoping in terms of surprises for the upcoming broadcast? I like the surprises we used to get but when you’re console is one of the best released then you can understand why they are playing it safe.Still excited to see what software is coming, that’s the most exciting thing. If you personally know a leaker, give them a nice hard slap on the face for being a pathetic lowlife.Who am I kidding, these kind of leakers have no friends. They leak because they are desperate for attention.@tadams587 I’m totally confused by your DEI comments:“Although if DEI isn’t removed from Nintendo international/america; there wouldn’t be any reason for it as outside of 1st party nintendo games, people age teens or higher will stop buying software for the console in the west”Could you perhaps rephrase that for clarity?
From what I understand now, you think Nintendo shouldn’t allow any diversity efforts in its games because people would stop buying them?
Please tell me I misunderstood. If they make a Nintendo Land 2 (I haven’t played the original tho) and include it as a pack-in game for Switch 2, let’s see how they implement mouse controls.@PinderSchlossits not diversity; husslers are hiding behind such causes and the language used for such causes. teen and adult games don’t show on eshop when parental controls are used. the third party ethics group, holds the release of the game hostage unless a safe “E” rating is acheived. the ethics group wil demand a cut of the profits for diversity efforts and reaching a wider audience. any game that they cannot dumb down to an E rating likely get banned as they won’t get paid for altering the product to meet their definition of a wider audience.teen and mature games have a specific audience they were made in mind for, just like every game. and games won’t reach the customer due to bannign them or altering them in a state that the target audience is not satified with.the “ethics group” primary interest is releasing E rating games, for advertisment of a wider audience, regardless if the game intended for a younger audience. they have an biased check list of removing most to all “considered” suggetive content, and hide behind terms like NSFW, often even trying to broaden or redine what NSFW and such terms mean to better make their check list sound the same as what the official ESRB rating board wants. they do this regardless of any stance the ESRB has on the game. They just have to make it sound like the alterations on their biased check list, actualy does fit in with what the ESRB and it’s region’s people want. however, most alterations is just the group’s personal bias and collective interest in making profits from advertising and sellign to a wider audience. Especially if the game’s series/ips are already popular, as they then get more profits and recognition, as well as blame passing for complants of their shady practices.Public ESRB ratings are for the release of suggestive and mature content to be made apparent when purchases are made by customer.Private DEI check list ratings are for alterign to reach wider audience outside of the developer and publisher’s intented target audience; and banning any thing that they cannot take larger profits on for reaching a such wider audiences. The mouse functionality would be great for FFXIVOf course, they want more features to copy and add to their upcoming handheldsMaybe the ex-PlayStation boss should just wait until April?@Freek This is not the first console Nintendo had play it safe with though. These are also some of their past consoles that Nintendo had play it safe with:Surprises like what? A detachable disc drive that requires an internet connection to even function? Now that is what I call a “good” surprise …The Switch 2 is just a better Switch 1 … leave it alone @Serpenterror You are wrong about Wii U being the same as Wii.Wii U were by far more powerful than Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 and at the same time ran all games at higher resolutions.Wii U also supported 2 external HDD/SSD’s at the same time.
Only Nintendo console ever to support proper external storage.
Wii U also had Bluetooth 4.0, while the newer PS4 and Xbox used the dead obsolete Bluetooth 3.0 standard. Why?
It were the only Nintendo console ever with Blu-Ray drive.Wii U Pro controller 80 hours on one charge..PS4 controller. 6 hours on one charge. Here is a Wii U fact as good as no one on the planet knows about besides Nintendo themselves.Wii U were the most powerful console ever for 1 year, until PS4 and Xbox One launched. It’s a old lie that GameCube were the last one to be most powerful, when Wii U were that in reality. At the end of the day, the system would have it’s critics regardless of whether or not it was safe or creative. If Nintendo decided to do something bold and creative, people would have went “Aww, the Switch was already so perfect. Why’d they have to change what already worked so great?!” One way or another, safe or bold, there would have been a fair amount of criticism regardless. Considering the Switch has become a household name, is the second highest selling console ever and people are still playing it to this day, I think going with a follow-up was the better option. No matter what world or timeline we’re in, the internet is always going to have complaints and criticism. Just as the sun rises and sets, and the sky is blue.Isn’t asking for more surprises kinda taking being surprised for granted? And noone likes being taken for granted.@PinderSchloss I would ignore the person shouting about DEIs. They hate what they don’t understand and blame them for an issue that doesn’t even remotely exist. Any of the people pushing the blame onto them tend to be the unsavory types that thought things like GamerGate were a good idea.@VoidofLight And that’s why I’ll leave it at that It was the right move considering NS1 was such a big seller. Nintendo are probably conscious of the Wii to Wii U mistake they made in the past. The next PS reveal won’t be a surprise at all. No gimmicks. Just plain old upgrade upscales in power. Is it me, or have Japanese folks become more crass? In every interview I had ever read they’ve always been polite to a fault, but lately I see more and more criticism and… well… crassnes.Just today I read about the inspiration for Star Fox’s Falco was someone’s big nose. There’s a lot more of those kinds of interviews. Is there a cultural shift happening? Or is it me?Anyways… interesting coming from a Playstation boss. They didn’t exactly innovate all that much from iteration to iteration. Just more power.Ah well…The leaks made the switch 2 known to the whole world and even to the aliens above haha. The leaks made sure that the same mistake would not be made as with the WiiU.This beast will be a day one purchase for me.From here on, they can built up the hype more an more.Like more info about the specs, what makes! His more special?Hall effect (driftless) sticks. Ai upscaling tec?
Eshop 2.0, better interface, more customization etc.
And then more on the games. They can start with smashbros, updated graphics, and the characters representing their latest games and moves.New games that push the device to its limits (graphics showcase)And the mysterious C button, that everyone is talking about. (Personally) I think its some sort Advanced touchpad, that the steamdeck has.Nintendo seriously has to go all out with the reveal (games) to build up the hype.I miss analog trigger and more immersion. alot of open world gamesand other games have become multi-menu grindfestsI agree about the reveal being basically a sneak reveal. It was an acknowledgement of its existence and a tease of new features. I didn’t think much of the reveal because I don’t like that style of video. Leaks didn’t really hurt things, in my opinion. Just as a reveal, I thought it was disappointing. But the Switch was so successful, and Switch 2 looks like it will be another good product that I don’t think the reveal matters because it will likely sell itself. Plus there will likely be a much stronger software reveal before too long.I have no doubt that Nintendo kept the surprises for the April Direct since again, not only there are some things we don’t know about the hardware yet, but apart from the new Mario Kart we know practically nothing about the software as in both the system’s and games and that’s what matters the most – what we’ve seen is just a teaser (which could and in my opinion should’ve been shown earlier and not just because of the leaks) and I’m so looking forward to the full reveal!Wasnt much surprising about ps4 or ps5. Think ps3 biggest surprise was the price too.Like why does nintendo get flak for no surprises, no creative new idea when microsoft and Sony aren’t coming up with anything new or exciting.I was very disappointed but now I am very happy, because I think the Switch 2 will be awesome and just what I wanted.this bloke definitely wishes he worked for nintendo rather than sony.a sony surprise equates to making the console worse i.e ***** off the disk drive and making you pay extra if you want to play ps5 physical games on a ps5 pro. how have the neckbeards not rioted about that decision from sony yet?@_fatto_katto_ Does the term EX-PS boss evade you?@Serpenterror I don’t think upgraded models of the same console like the GB Micro and 2DS support your point very well. Of course they’re the same. They’re the same console. You might as well include the jump from Switch to Switch OLED on that listKeep it simple, tho the gimmick I’d like to see return is the sensor bar and Ir pointer so I can actually play some light gun games.Tho sometimes gimmicky controls can kill a game.. Look at how the Star Fox flopped so hard because they pushed hard for gimmicky controls.I would’ve been perfectly content to have waited until the end of the fiscal year when Nintendo likely would’ve wanted an absolute blowout of a reveal until the leaks ruined that idea. My disappointment over things like the name and color scheme could’ve been more easily negated if they were offset by the games and unveiling of new, exciting features. Now I’m left in an anxious, awkward two-month waiting period in which I want to be hyped but the bare-bones tease left a bad first impression for me.As opposed to Sony, who only surprises us by revealing the prices of their consoles. Is there any possibility that the mouse sensor could double up as a pointer of sorts to bring Wii games to the partyhas anyone else held a joycon on edge, and imagined using it as a mouse for more than 30 seconds at a time? 💀(EDIT – if just having packed-in “mouse functionality” paves the way for me to use any bluetooth or 2.4g type PC mouse with the mew console I don’t at all care what using the joycons is like. same as it ever was lol.)Completely agree with the interview. The lack of surprises was very disappointing, and Switch 2 feels like a more straightforward upgrade than ever.Hopefully they’re saving all the fireworks for the Direct! The hardware is never as important as the software. Just hope they show us some awesome games, and preferably revive/revisit some of their more neglected IPs/Franchises…… looking at you Punch Out, F-Zero, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Wario Land, Rhythm Heaven, Yoshi’s Island, Mario Sluggers & 3-On-3 Hoops… just to name a few.@wuntyme8from your mouth to Nintendo’s ears ✋🙂‍↕️Eh. The sneak peak was a shut up announcement as is. Still I am excited for the kick stand change (in comparison to LED switch) the larger screen (hope it is OLED), the joycon connector change and increase in power. Gaming has had diminishing returns for two gens imo so all I really want is Nintendo to keep inching closer to xbox/ps specs so the system can house more games. I still won’t get one till the Zelda edition but I have a massive backlog and I am trying to focus on digging that out.Why give up surprises when the reveal will be in April 2? They gave a shadow drop to head off the leaks. And having First looks demo and Feb. announcement is already leading to April 2. I think he is a sore looser….
