PSN Outage Extends ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ Beta, Among Other Things – Forbes

monster hunter wildsMany games were so severely disrupted by the 24 hour PSN outage, that they had to alter plans for a number of limited time events, given that the issue shaved an entire day off all their plans. One of the most prominent games taking steps to make up for the outage is Monster Hunter Wilds, which has just announced it will extend its beta by an additional day, albeit not right now. Rather, here’s their statement about the plan:“PS5 hunters, thanks for your patience and understanding during this weekend’s PSN service issues. To account for reduced OBT2 play time due to the outage, we are considering running OBT2 for an additional 24 hours at a future date. Exact details and timing are TBD, so please stay tuned.”We almost never see outages this long on platforms, not since 2014, a full decade ago in the case of PSN, so these places have to adjust their plans, especially since games have moved toward even more and more “live” events. For instance, Destiny 2 ran a weekend race to see who could finish a hard “contest” mode of its dungeon within 48 hours. But with 24 of those hours cut out, they are running an additional contest mode in the future, something they’ve never done. Similarly, Warframe announced that the current visitation of Baro at the Kronia Relay will be extended to tomorrow morning. There’s more than that, but loads of online games issued status updates or apologies to their community about the outage, even if of course, it wasn’t their fault. But I’m sure that no studio or publisher is too pleased about tens of millions of PS players missing an entire day of playtime on their various games.Sony has continued to avoid issuing anything resembling an official explanation for the near-exact 24 hour outage, saying only there were “operational issues” with no other elaboration. The past major outages in 2014 and 2011 were due to specific attacks against the network. That does not appear to be what happened here, but there’s so little information that it’s hard to even say that for sure.Look for updates for whatever live game you currently play to check for extensions or compensation or what have you.
