Collins previously revealed that he suffers from type 2 diabetes and complications from a spin injury, also that he could no longer hold his drum sticks properly without feeling pain, even taping his sticks to his hands to get through later gigs.
As a solo entertainer, he has won eight Grammy Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, two Golden Globes and an Oscar. Collins is one of the UK’s best-selling music artists, and had more US top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s.
His most successful singles from the period include In the Air Tonight, Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now), One More Night, Sussudio, Another Day in Paradise and I Wish It Would Rain Down.
He joined Genesis as the band’s drummer in 1970 but took over frontman duties following Peter Gabriel’s departure in 1975.
His daughter, from his second marriage to Jill Tavelman, is the actress Lily Collins, who stars in Emily in Paris.Get our Breaking News Alerts and Keep your inbox happy.Signup for Breaking News Alerts & Newsletters
