And among Adults 18-34, the ceremony posed a six-year high (3.9 rating).Filmdom’s biggest night thus easily outdrew the most recent Grammys (15.4 million) and Golden Globes (9.3 million), and last fall’s Emmys (6.9 million), to stand as the No. 1 primetime entertainment telecast of the 2024-25 TV season.
TVLine readers gave host O’Brien’s opening monologue an average grade of “B,” while Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s medley of Wizard of Oz-some tunes earned an “A.”Leading out of the Oscars, a special 30-minute preview of American Idol‘s new season retained 5.93 million total viewers and 0.84 rating (among Adults 18-49, a three-year high for an Idol opener). It was back in 2022 that viewership for the Oscars surged for the first time in a long time, following a steady slide that over a decade saw its audience plummet 74 percent (to an all-time low of 10.4 million viewers in 2021). ΔThere was no Oppenheimer or Barbie hit this year. I watched as I do every year, but admit I haven’t seen Anora yet. It’s really good, but don’t watch it with your parents (like I did!)Watching rich celebrities being praised with gold trophies by other sycophants is not exactly high on everyone’s watch list.Crawl back to the basement….fast. Success is always hated by failure.I forgot. Public forums are not for expressing negative opinions. My bad, Bellyaching is not allowed people!!!Now you got it. Good man.Nobody asked you!Who wants to watch “performers” who think they are superior to their audience and have the right to use their platform for political commentary?Their night. Their stage. If you don’t like it, your remote can change channels. Don’t want to read about celebrities views? Don’t click the article. But no you will not. Why? Because they are in your head. And you will comment on their views.“Who wants to watch ‘performers’ who think they are superior to their audience?”
.
Apparently, 19.7 million people. And not for nothing, but people who *really* don’t care don’t (1) click on articles about it, or (2) take the time to comment. +25 TVLine Power User points (no cash value)I liked Conan. Couldve done without the wasting time bit, but he did well and was mostly nice. Some winners just have to have their 5 minutes up there, and tho I love so many of them, too much. On the other hand, the winners at the start aren’t played off as soon, because the night is young. Brody was at the end and was played off almost immediately, which probly pissed him off.Um others were played off and they went ok and even with the replay you could watch it on Disney + but on Hulu the video for the replay of the Oscar’s red carpet and show didn’t work until about 7 et 24 hours after the airdateI saw most of the nominated films which made the show more enjoyable I think. Conan was pretty good.Oh wow I didn’t realize The Emmys is the least watched of all the awards.“Hold my beer.” – The Tony Awards ¯\_(ツ)_/¯do you not regularly post ratings anymore because they are so low? i was surprised to not see any articles about the new nbc shows. All because people were expecting Demi Moore to win and … checks notes…they were disappointed.Imagine how much bigger the ratings would have been if a mainstream release and Hollywood production, like ‘Wicked’ or last year’s ‘Oppenheimer,’ was the frontrunner.Last year Oppenheimer was the front runner and also won…Those viewing stats are interesting and/or curious.Of all the recent award shows, I enjoyed The Grammys® the most. And it was the only one I watched live from start to finish. My demographic: Old White Guy (65+) in Canada who had never heard of Chappel Roan before the show. Go figure.By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
