OnePlus reportedly fits a 6,000 mAh battery into a phone the same size as Pixel 9 – 9to5Google

OnePlus is reportedly working on a smaller smartphone for its lineup and, apparently, the “Mini” is going to have a massive battery for its size.Leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo says that an upcoming “small” screen device from OnePlus will be “the first” to reach a battery capacity of 6,000 mAh, and that future iterations could arrive as soon as later this year with 6,500-7,000 mAh. This is referring to the OnePlus 13 “Mini,” which could launch as the “OnePlus 13T” and is expected to be based on the Oppo Find X8 Mini which could be launching next month. The “Mini” is expected to have a screen size of roughly 6.3-inches, much smaller than the 6.78-inch OnePlus 13 flagship, and the same size as Google’s Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, which was heralded in 2024 as one of the few good “small” Android phones.Cramming a 6,000 mAh battery into that footprint would certainly be impressive, especially as that’s the same capacity as the full-size OnePlus 13. It’s also impressive considering the competition, as it’d be a near-30% upgrade over the battery in Google’s Pixel 9. There are worse offenders than Google here, though. Where the Pixel 9 (and Pixel 9 Pro) has a 4,700 mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy S25 has a mere 4,000 mAh battery despite being almost the same size. How is OnePlus pulling that off? Apparently, it won’t be by making the phone super thick, as DCS shot down that possibility in the comments on one post. More likely, this is a result of continued improvements to battery tech. Oppo is said to be squeezing a huge battery into the ultra-thin Find N5 foldable, and those same methods could certainly provide a boost to battery capacity on traditional form factors. OnePlus is expected to launch a “Mini” device sometime around April.Follow Ben: Twitter/X, Threads, Bluesky, and InstagramFTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links.
