Nintendo’s Music App Is Getting A Small Update Later This Year “Around October” – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpStart the countdown!Nintendo Music is a fun little app, but you need to have an active Switch Online subscription if you want to use it.It seems Nintendo will be slightly adjusting this in the future, with an update planned for “around October 2025”. This update will allow users of this mobile app to access “some” Nintendo Music functions going forward, even after you’ve cancelled your membership. Here’s the full rundown according to Nintendo’s customer support page (updated earlier this week) – revealing how you’ll be able to use functions like the ability to edit, share, or delete your playlists, even after you’ve cancelled your subscription:Nintendo: “We are planning an update around October 2025 that will allow you to use some Nintendo Music functions, such as the ability to edit, share, or delete your playlists, even after you cancel your Nintendo Switch Online membership.”Nintendo hasn’t revealed why we’ll have to wait so long for this update, but hey – it’s a busy year for the Japanese firm with the Switch 2 launch and anticipated games like Metroid Prime 4 also on the way. Maybe it’s even timed in with something else, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see…The notice about this Nintendo Music update months ahead of its release follows an update to the app yesterday which added 23 tracks from the Kirby and the Forgotten Land soundtrack. Nintendo also shared a notice at the time, mentioning how the rest of this Switch album would be joining the service later this year.Listen to some of Kirby and the Forgotten Land todayA mobile music app exclusive to Switch Online membersWhat are your thoughts about Nintendo’s approach to its music app so far? Putting up a countdown for the S2 Direct two weeks out was bad enough. The idea that it’d take seven months to integrate something that basic is utterly baffling. It will be implemented into the switch 2, i’m sure.I definitely like having the option. I never allow subscriptions to auto renew, so I do tend to let Nintendo Online run out and sometimes go a few months before I have a reason to pay for it again. Being able to organize/bookmark/etc. any new soundtracks I can’t currently listen to will help me avoid forgetting about them completely.Bring back the Game & Watch mini game from the DS family for the cellphone you cowards!Strange they’d even announce this now, no? Maybe there’s more to it. Who knows 😅 my uncle, that’s who 🤫I only want 2 things to use it: a widget and a playlist with all the musicDesktop and webversion, when?Just hoping one day we get Pokemon Gameboy music soon@Henchdog would love nintendogs on mobile insteadSomething is telling me this might coincide with a certain console release date. I hope not as I need that puppy in my hands sooner but this announcement feels weird. Why would people be cancelling their NSO membership at that time? Why give people an incentive to cancel. Me don’t like.@WheresWaveRace Nintendo already confirmed NSO will continue on Switch 2 though so they’d have no reason to cancel it on the basis of Switch 2 launchingInteresting that they’re announcing it this early (and I’ll gladly take it over not knowing until its release – it certainly wouldn’t have come out earlier regardless) but anyway, pretty cool, looking forward to this update!Req : Put a music player in the Switch 2, and let it play any music from any game that’s installed.Do that, Ninty.. Do that!!!@Clyde_Radcliffe yeh I hear you. NSO is going nowhere, why have they announced this little update now when it’s happening in 7 months time? It feels weird. I can’t get my head around this announcement.@WheresWaveRace Same here… like I can get if their tech teams are focusing more on Switch 2 until October but why announce it now?I struggle to get my head around loads of things Nintendo does… releasing only half of Kirby And The Forgotten Land soundtrack on the app is another recent one… the utterly random timing of new NSO game launches instead of a monthly drop… adding “folders” to Switch five years after launch… games being dormant for years then getting a load of updates… it goes on and on.Nintendo is just so strange since Iwata passed away and I often wonder if I’m the only one who feels like that. A lot more corporate in many ways and massively successful but also weirdly unprofessional, random, sloppy and ridiculous. I feel like there’d be a lot more goodwill towards them if they’d better explain some of their decisions but they don’t even really do interviews anymore except on extremely rare occasions either.I love the app, but I can’t use it while at work, since they don’t allow us to have our phones on our person while working. It would be really nice if Nintendo would release a browser version or even a version for smartwatches, so I can listen to it while on the clock.@Clyde_RadcliffeNo you are not the only one. They have sort of moved from ‘unpredictable’ and ‘secretive’ to ‘baffling’ and ‘obtuse’.Perhaps NSO is getting a price hike towards the end of the year, so Nintendo is anticipating that some people will end their subscriptions around that time? What a bizarre thing to announce so far outWonder if they will at some point make a Switch 1 & 2 version of Nintendo Music app 🤷‍♂️ that said why is there not a dedicated IPad app for Nintendo Music?.. tried of IPad getting ignored…Put me in the camp of this being a really bizarre announcement regarding timing. But will we get any stability?@Clyde_Radcliffe I agree. Post-Iwata Nintendo has made a whole lot of decisions that, at least in my opinion, are very un-Nintendo-like. I think it started with the NSO subscription, but it has been getting more worrisome as time goes on.I tend to think that it’s due to a lack of “Nintendo” leadership. Shigeru Miyamoto’s philosophy on fun is what made Nintendo stand out in the NES and SNES eras and Satoru Iwata specifically cited Miyamoto as the influence for how the led the company. Since his passing, Nintendo seems to be slowly moving away from the thing that Iwata called, “The Nintendo Difference.”I still want to see a Nintendo Music app on Switch 2 and/or PC. October is firmly in 2’s full swing. They may be treating this so slowly, but it deserves so much more.Well, that’s probably when we’re getting all of Kirby Forgotten lands then! 😂Sounds like a good update, curious what more they’ll do!Are they expecting us to cancel our subscriptions by then…? 🤔Please allow us to browse by composers. Not even a large update? Intriguing for what I don’t know.
