Nintendo Switch 2 price might have just leaked courtesy of a Costco employee – 9to5Toys

Switch 2 is official, Grand Theft Auto 6 and Metal Gear Solid Delta might be in the launch game window (along with a host of actual Nintendo titles of course), and recent patent fillings have all but confirmed Mouse-Con mode. But what about the price? Early leaks and rumors suggested it could hit at $449 here the US, but a Costco employee might have just leaked a much lower price than that. Now, like all of the early Switch 2 leaks, everything should be taken with a huge grain of salt here. While it would certainly make sense to just about everyone that Switch 2 would release at a higher price than the current-generation, many hoped it wouldn’t exceed the price of the OLED model – as of right now most information is pointing to Switch 2 releasing with lower-grade display than that. I for one always just assumed it would be at least $50 more than the OLED Switch. Shortly after the official first-look Switch 2 trailer made headlines in very corner of the internet, leakers and industry analysts went to work make guesses at the eventual suggested retail price of the new console, some far more educated than others of course. All told, most folks seem to have the console coming in at $449 for the base model and $499 for a package that comes bundled with Mario Kart 9 (or whatever that new Mario Kart game in the trailer will be called). That feels a touch high to me, but not out of the realm of possibility. A $150 jump on the standard current-gen Switch is no small price hike. That would put the Switch 2 up above the cost of an Xbox Series S, for example, and on par with the all-digital PS5 slim – Nintendo typically comes in well below the other two. Only time will tell, but a Costco employee up in Canada might have just spilled the beans. Or let’s just hope they did because the price is going to be much lower than expected if this is actually a real leak. There’s no way to know for sure if this is a real leak, and we can’t confirm anything at this point. But an alleged Canadian Coscto employee posted an alleged Nintendo Switch 2 placeholder on Famiboards via Tom’s Guide showing a Canadian list price of $499.99 – that’s roughly $350 US and $50 under the lowest rumored price tag we have heard yet. Just keep in mind, that if is this is a real placeholder, the actual currency exchange between Canadian and American dollars doesn’t always reflect the MSRP – a $499.99 list in Canada could point towards a $399.99 list in the US. The base Switch goes for $399 in Canada and jumps to $449 for the OLED. So let’s hope this isn’t some faked price placeholder, which it might very well be – the “palce” misspelling certainly doesn’t breed confidence, and this might very well just be some early internal Coscto placeholder, as opposed to being any indication of the actual Switch 2 price, but let’s hope it it is, as it points towards a much lower price than some of the previous rumors and leaks.
