Nikki Glaser Reveals the Only Golden Globes Joke She Regrets – MovieWeb

By all accounts, Nikki Glaser did a bang up job hosting the 82nd annual Golden Globes on Sunday night. The comedian’s trademark quick wit and acid tongue were on full display, of course, but Glaser managed to both celebrate and poke fun at the movie industry at the same time – something certain previous hosts haven’t been able to do. All her jokes landed, and it seems a good time was had by all. But Glaser is also a perfectionist when it comes to her work, and the next morning after hosting, she told Howard Stern (via The Hollywood Reporter) there was one particular joke she actually flubbed, just a little. The punchline in question: her crack about Ben Affleck’s coital utterances.
On stage, Glaser said, “Wicked, Queer, Nightbitch – these are not just words Ben Affleck
yells after he orgasms. These are some of the incredible movies nominated tonight.” But that’s not how the joke was supposed to go, according to Glaser. “…I phrased that joke incorrectly. It was supposed to be ‘when he orgasms’ and I said ‘after’ and it really bugged me… It still works. It’s just less clear. It’s 2 percent more funny [the other way].” When Stern reminded Glaser that most people don’t care about the jokes they didn’t get to hear, Glaser replied, “They don’t know how much more they would have liked it.”Glaser also said that overall she felt good about her hosting duties and “went to bed happy.” She also feels pretty confident she’ll be asked to host again next year. “I can’t imagine they wouldn’t [want me back]. It’s hard to find people to do these shows… [But] I would never be able to live with myself if I turned it down because I’m scared of bombing.”Stern also asked Glaser about her payment for hosting the ceremony. She referred to Jerrod Carmichael, who hosted the Golden Globes in 2023 and who stated his pay during his opening monologue: $500,000. “I got less than that,” Glaser said. “It’s OK. I’ll get more next year. I honestly would have done it for free, it’s such an insane platform… [But] next time I’ll ask for more money.”Nikki Glaser didn’t hold back when she destroyed the DC sequel.Glaser may be nonplussed about the lower pay, but it does demonstrate a continued problem in Hollywood, whereby men on average get paid more money than women for doing the same amount of work. Not only that, there’s a racial wage gap as well, with people of color earning much less than their white counterparts. So, while Carmichael was paid more because he’s a man, it’s likely Ricky Gervais and other white male hosts were paid even more. Here’s hoping Glaser can get equal pay for her efforts next time around. And if she doesn’t happen to host next year, hopefully any pay gaps are erased for good.We want to hear from you!
