Water, earth, fire and air are combining once again.
Nickelodeon has greenlit an animated series set in the world of its beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender. The new show, titled Avatar: Seven Havens, has a 26-episode order and will follow a new Avatar. The series will be the third in the Avatar-verse, following the original show and The Legend of Korra.

The announcement is timed to the 20th anniversary of the original series’ debut on Feb. 21, 2005. Nickelodeon will also mark the anniversary with new YouTube content, in-person experiences and books.

Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are behind Seven Havens as well. The initial order will be split into two parts (“books,” in Avatar parlance) of 13 episodes each and is in production from Nickelodeon Animation’s Avatar Studios banner. Casting and a premiere date will be announced later. (Reports of the series and initial episode order have been circulating online since December.)
“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”
Avatar: Seven Havens is, according to the show’s description, “set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a joint statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”
Along with the new series, a Last Airbender feature film focusing on the original series’ main character, Aang, is set for release in January 2026. To mark the show’s 20th anniversary, Nickelodeon will debut two new YouTube series on the Avatar: The Last Airbender channel, add original content to the recently launched Avatar Legends YouTube channel and is planning a celebration for Comic-Con in San Diego later in the year. Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert, featuring a live orchestra performing the show’s score, is touring (mostly outside North America) through May.

Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, meanwhile, will run for two more seasons. It’s based on the Nickelodeon show, but DiMartino and Konietzko aren’t involved.
DiMartino and Konietzko are executive producing Avatar: Seven Havens with Ethan Spaulding.
