NBA Power Rankings: Luka Doncic, Lakers move into top 10, 76ers just keep falling, red-hot Nuggets on the rise – CBS Sports

The mid-season break provides a natural checkpoint to take stock of where every team sits, and yet — especially given the monumental activity around this year’s deadline in both quantity and quality of players — a lot of teams will look vastly different over the final two months of the season.Take the Los Angeles Lakers, for instance, who moved up three spots to No. 8 this week behind a long stretch of winning basketball. Their team was essentially flipped upside down with the offensive wizardry of Luka Doncic, who has only played two games with them thus far, replacing the uncanny defensive prowess and versatility of Anthony Davis. What will the Lakers look like in a few weeks? Who knows, but they’ll certainly develop a new identity. The Denver Nuggets, by contrast, made zero moves at the deadline — and why would they? They’ve rattled off eight straight wins to get within sniffing distance of the No. 2 seed in the West. They rose one spot in this week’s rankings, but have the potential to keep climbing if they continue down the path they’re on.And then there are the Philadelphia 76ers, who are probably wishing the trade deadline was still ahead of them at this point. They now have the same record as the Brooklyn Nets, and have struggled no matter who’s on the floor, including Joel Embiid. They dropped two more spots this week to No. 25, making them the sixth-worst team in the NBA — simply unimaginable when they added Paul George to Embiid and Tyrese Maxey last summer. So, with the caveat that things could have a much different feel as traded players settle into their new homes, here’s a look at the NBA Power Rankings as we head into the All-Star break.© 2004-2025 CBS Interactive.
