These instruments observed the event in multiple wavelengths—ranging from ultraviolet and optical to near-infrared, radio, and gamma rays. Despite this broad analysis, no clear match to known phenomena emerged. One of the most perplexing aspects is the lack of radio emissions, which are typically expected from such high-energy events. The VLA telescope searched for radio signals at three different intervals—11, 158, and 258 days after the initial detection—but found nothing. This absence of radio waves is unexpected, as events with similar X-ray brightness usually exhibit significant radio afterglows.The leading hypothesis suggests that EP240408a could be a tidal disruption event (TDE), a rare occurrence where a black hole tears apart a passing star. Specifically, researchers believe it may involve a white dwarf being consumed by an intermediate-mass black hole, generating a powerful relativistic jet pointed directly at Earth.Such jets can mimic the signals of gamma-ray bursts, but their behavior differs in crucial ways.
