Motorola’s $300 Moto G Power Can Handle the Jacuzzi and Keeps the Headphone Jack – Gizmodo

Sometimes, you don’t want the phone for the frills. You want it to make a call and last through a grueling day. Enter Motorola’s Moto G line of budget devices, one of the main contributors to the company’s financial gains. High-quality cheap phones are all anyone ever asked for. The Moto G and Moto G Power have been refreshed with new processors and vivid colors, and the Moto G Power also advertises exceptional water resistance starting at $300.The Moto G Power is the most enticing of the two budget phones, so we’ll start there. The Moto G Power is IP69 rated—the same as the newly launched flagship phone, the OnePlus 13, which made a big to-do about being able to withstand a bath in the dishwasher. Like OnePlus’s $900 phone, the Moto G Power can handle deep water submersion, high-pressure water jets, and hotter water temperatures than most phones rated IP68. It’s also fully protected from dust entering the edges, which is nice considering Motorola kept the headphone jack on it.That makes the Moto G Power one of the toughest smartphones you can get at this price point. It’s not that thick, though you must contend with a large 6.8-inch LCD, which may make the device slightly too big for most users. At least the size means there’s ample battery stuffed inside. The 5,000mAh battery should last quite a while on the Moto G Power, since it’s not a power-sucker either. When the phone is ready to recharge, you can do so with a 30w power brick or a 15w wireless charger. The specifications for the Moto G Power won’t outperform the latest Pixel A-series, but it’s how you’ll get whopping battery life out of this thing. There’s a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 CPU in there, which has a slightly higher clock speed than last season’s Moto G Power, coupled with 8GB of RAM. The phone has up to 128GB of storage and is accompanied by a microSD expansion slot—another rare feature available in Android land. For smaller handers—though not by much—the Moto G is a 6.7-inch device with the same chipset but a measly 4GB of RAM. It is one of the cheapest Motorola phones you can buy that has all the basics. The upside is it’s stuffed with the same 5,000mAh battery pack, which makes it a long-lasting phone for $200. But don’t drop it in the water; the Moto G only has a “water-repellant” design with an IP52 rating. Both phones will be available to buy at the end of the month.
