The Lunar Remastered Collection will be coming to Nintendo Switch on 18th April 2025. Plus, it’s confirmed that the collection will be getting a physical release.Launching digitally on the eShop for $49.99 USD / €49.99 EUR — with physical releases coming in at $54.99 USD (on Amazon.com) and €54.99 EUR (at Clear River Games), Lunar Remastered Collection enhances two of the most beloved turn-based RPGs from the ’90s.The first two Lunar games, which make up this package, were first released on the Sega CD as Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, but the Collection is based on their PlayStation rereleases — Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. The Remastered Collection brings these two fan-favourites up to date with new language options (French and German), new battle strategy settings to help streamline combat, a speed-up function, and the ability to swap between classic and remastered visuals.Lunar is made by GAME ARTS, the studio also responsible for the Grandia series, this is the very first time Eternal Blue will be officially playable in Europe. The series has appeared on Nintendo consoles before — Lunar: The Silver Star got a GBA “retelling” called Lunar Legend in 2002. And, well, the less said about the DS game Lunar: Dragon Song, the better.Aaaanyway, let’s end on a high note — we have two beautiful new illustrations from artist Toshiyuki Kubooka to go with the remastered collection, featuring the cast from both games. These will be the reversible covers for the physical releases. And they’re pretty gorgeousLunar Remastered Collection will sail onto Switch on 18th April 2025. Will you be reaching for the stars? Let us know in the comments below.About Alana HaguesAlana has been with Nintendo Life since 2022, and while RPGs are her first love, Nintendo is a close second. She enjoys nothing more than overthinking battle strategies, characters, and stories. She also wishes she was a Sega air pirate.Comments 50When I got the Japanese version of the Mega Drive Mini II, I was disappointed that the Lunar games there did not include the English versions, despite the fact that most other games on both MD Minis have multiple region versions. So I am pretty pleased to see this Switch collection! I’m looking forward to playing Lunar for the first time. I’ve heard great things. My only previous experience with Lunar was a small amount of Lunar Legend for GBA, which was pretty buggy, and I stopped playing because an inventory bug caused me to lose items, and I didn’t want to have to worry about that for the whole game. ..I’m happily buying both the Switch and PS4 versions <3The two best jrpgs from the Sega CD, will be buying a copy on general principle. But lord have mercy, 2025 is going to be wall-to-wall loaded for rpg fans.Instant preorder from me. Two more to add to the backlog…Remember last night's allegations of imminent hardware announcements or somesuch? Me neither.😵😁 It's starting to feel like I missed a borderline Partner Showcase earlier today.😍so looking forward. The Working Designs PS1 collector's editions have long been a highlight of my collection. Glad to see the re-re-release for those who've never played them.@Magician ps version was better:)Let's go!! I can't wait!!! I don't even care that this was announced literally a week after I spent $200 buying the PS1 version of Lunar 2 on eBay!!I have the first Lunar on PS1, it's a great rpg. Don't think I ever actually beat it though, got stuck on some really tough boss near the end.@johnedwin Indeed. But I was speaking towards the platform of origin, not which version is best.Nice if there's a physical release I hope it had a reversible cover. Also I don't get it, classic and remastered visuals doesn't even look that different in the screenshots, one is just brighter and blurrier than the other. Classic should had been the Sega CD visuals.@johnedwin Is the Because you can play multiplayer by fighting for control? If you plug in another controller the input works on both controllers, and that includes outside of battle.Ugh Suikoden Collection comes out first, that has to take priority.Getting this for sure to finally give the Lunar series a try, in fact I'll preorder it physically discounted from my usual retailer here in Italy as soon as I can!Anyone seen a UK physical yet? I own the PS1 version, but none of my consoles play it anymore, region issues.Lunar is made by GAME ARTS, the studio also responsible for the Grandia series, this is the very first time Eternal Blue will be officially playable in Europe.Yeah, we got completely shafted when it came to JRPGs from the 16/32-bit era. Also I didn't know about the connection to Grandia — that's given me even more reason to check this out, I loved that game!So... Are these games getting a new localization? Or are they sticking with the Working Designs one? The one with the, shall we say, off-color Bill Clinton jokes? I'm not saying I'd necessarily WANT a new translation, mind; those fast-and-loose Working Designs translations were a major step in showing Western audiences the importance of localization, and demonstrating that there could be craft and wit added (or, ideally, preserved) in a localization that could render a more robust localization a more pleasurable and authentic experience than a literal translation. At the same time... a lot of the jokes they put in are pretty darned dated. And while the WD localization was certainly fun, it veered away from the text a lot in ways that I'm not sure today's fans will appreciate. No love for the PSP version? The character models look far better, along with the isometric views and gameplay improvements like ultimate attacks.Beautiful new coversKinda wish these included the sega cd versions, which are pretty totally different. But I understand why they don’t.@EarthboundBenjy The version of Lunar Legend you play is probably a bootleg version, only bootleg GBA games had those kind of bug. I also own the actual Lunar Legend and had never encounter such bug but I also own a bootleg version on cartridge which had that bug too. I own both versions and when people want to borrow the game I only give them the bootleg one, never the official one.@Andee well, JRPG's just were not that popular in the UK and Europe at the time. The concept of an RPG was still somewhat alien, and the RPG was way more popular in the USA and obviously Japan at the time. More popular in Europe was third person shooter and horror game type affairs. It wasn't until the success of FF7 in European regions that JRPG's were put on the map in a big way.@AmyZiegfeld Victor Ireland has posted his displeasure he/his company has not been involved in this remaster. This also ignores that the 32-bit versions were originally made for Saturn then ported to the PlayStation. The collapse of the Saturn is certainly why WD had to move to the PlayStation.(and an old Game Informer is probably right in that WD probably would've localized Saturn Grandia if the console hadn't performed so poorly in America. Whether it's a good or a bad thing I recall someone else got the PS1 port...)@Serpenterror Nope. Not a bootleg. Here's a GameFAQs guide from 2003 for Lunar Legend that goes into detail about the item bug https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gba/560993-lunar-legend/faqs/22067make sure to do a CTRL-F for the text "item bug" to be taken to the relevant section.Whoa, that's some amazing cover art! I just love it!I'm sure gonna get this collection this year. When I'm gonna get it will depend on the info we have about Switch 2 until April@AmyZiegfeld It will be a new localization. The guy that owns the rights to the original localization has reached out to the Lunar Remastered publisher in hopes of getting the original added as an option. However I wouldn't count on it, despite Victor (the owner of the original localization) throwing out kind words and promises of a low price deal right now, in the past he has been notoriously difficult to work with and has had some controversies, so I think companies are avoiding him. Which is a shame because the original certainly has its charm.I am just about finished Playing Lunar Silver for the first time on Mac and iPad (there is somewhat of an already remastered port on Mac/iOS/Android). I was hoping to play Lunar 2 with the old voice cast when it launches this year as a remaster, but I am not too optimistic that will happen.Preorder when?Interesting that Gung-ho is going with Clear River in Europe, but completely skipping LRG for America. I wasn't aware that was an optionShoot, I forgot this was coming out. All right, folks, this or the Suikoden collection? You can only choose one!Check this out! If you don't... You need a spanking!@Smithicus I'd say it was a chicken/egg situation; they weren't popular because no publisher would give them the time of day, so they had no chance of ever gaining exposure or traction. I remember reading mags at the time, in their "grey imports" sections always had these super interesting-looking anime styled game with rich storylines and wishing at least a few of them would squeak through customs@EarthboundBenjy I see but I think having a back-up save file should solve that issue, the game gave you two save files so using one as a back-up should fix it. I usually never got hit by that bug unless I'm playing just to find one.Preordered the physical Edit: Gasp! No! That was Suikoden I preordered. Guess I have to wait for the Amazon pre-order to go live.I was introduced to Silver Star Story Complete when I was 14 (I’m about to turn 39). Now you’re telling me these two titles, which are among my top favorite games of all time, are bundled together, and the physical release is not trapped in LRG’s domain? Pinch me!@AmyZiegfeld I’m also wondering if it’ll have the Working Designs balance tweaks. I remember finding the game very frustrating on PlayStation and realized lately it may have been because of the changes they had made.I can't wait for the opinion pieces on why bromides are problematic lol.Anywho, do I want to play through the Lunar games again? I'm not sure...Wonderful cover artworkWould want confirmation of a re-translation (dated jokes and my general agreement with the concept of localization aside, Working Designs completely made up a ton of lines in their "translations") and that the difficulty balance is based on the Japanese originals.Working Designs messed with everything they touched, and would then claim the opposite in the games' manuals. Kind of pathetic to see Victor Ireland still trying to make money off these awful translations 20+ years later too.@Zeebor15 Thank god it's skipping limited run.@MagicEmperorSkipping those scumbags gives this collection another selling point! Sounds great. It means having some Sega CD and PS1 on the Switch too.My favorite PS1 JRPGs literally releasing on my birthday!Steam digitally on day one. Then physical on one or both consoles, depending on whether I actually get a PS5 at some point. The universe is healing. I can see it and it's beautiful@NinChocolate it's lush isn't it? Love that late '90s anime style@BishopShiozawa sadly it won't be the Sega CD versions of the game. I was hoping we'd at least get sega Cd lunar 1 since it's practically a different game.Super excited to get the physical version of Lunar when they are on preorder. Hope it does well. Now just waiting on release date for Trails in the Sky 1st.@Ralizah What a birthday, then! Haha! Wow!@EVIL-C I was convinced this collection's physical release was gonna be exclusive to LRG. By the power of Althena, I'm SO excited for this!@MagicEmperor Happy future birthday to you, please enjoy! 🎂 😄Wonderful. Adding to GameFly.General grevious:Another rpg game to add to my collection.I hope they don't remove the bromides. But in this overly-woke climate I'm guessing it'll probably be the case.
