According to the British driver, he wants to design a road-going Ferrari based on the legendary F40. It could be called the F44.Hamilton made the revelation while speaking with members of the media at the recent Australian Grand Prix. In November, Top Gear spoke with unnamed sources who claim a modernized F40 could be added to the Italian brand’s limited run of Icona models. It could follow on from the Monza SP1 and SP2, as well as the Daytona SP3, and take design inspiration from what was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari.Of course, reviving such a car would inevitably cause quite a lot of controversy if not done right, as Ferrari has to ensure it lives up to its legendary predecessor.However, if Hamilton is personally involved in the project, it could be a recipe for success. Wealthy enthusiasts are certainly going to line up to own a car personally designed and/or developed by one of the greatest F1 drivers ever. If that car is a modern reincarnation of the F40, complete with a manual transmission, then expect Ferrari to sell out the entire allocation in mere seconds.
