Let’s Talk About Captain America: Brave New World’s End-Credits Scene – Gizmodo

Captain America: Brave New World is now in theaters and even though we don’t think it’s great, it does have a few hints at the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as a future-facing scene at the very end of the credits. Let’s talk about it. Full spoilers follow. After the credits, we return to the Raft. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) was there earlier in the movie to visit Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), but this seems to be at some later date because now his arm is healed. So did he leave and come back? Why didn’t he have this conversation sooner and save himself a trip? Doesn’t matter.Sam is there to talk to the film’s villain, Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson)—who comic fans know as the Leader, though he’s never called that in the movie. There isn’t really a reason for Sam to be there other than, what? To gloat? “I told you you were gonna lose that bet,” Sam says, referring to the fact Sterns thought he’d die if he fought Ross’ Hulk. They briefly squabble before Sterns starts to go all “Leader” on him. The movie has established that with his gamma super brain, Sterns sees all possible futures, sort of like Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War. So he tells Sam “It’s coming.” What’s coming? Well, he’s seen the probability of it and it’s “plain as day.” “All you heroes protecting this world, do you think you’re the only ones?” Sterns says. “Do you think this is the only world? We’ll see what happens when you have to protect this place from the others.”Then, oddly, it says “Captain America will return” when it should basically just say “Avengers: Secret Wars, in theaters 2027.” Because that’s what Sterns is talking about here. A convergence of multiverses that the MCU has been exploring and teasing for years now: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, Ant-Man: Quantumania, Spider-Man: No Way Home, etc. In fact, it’s been happening for so many years that Sam clearly knows there are other worlds. He has to know there are other heroes. We aren’t quite sure why Sterns saying this is supposed to be ominous, except that he knows it’s going to happen. The problem is, we also know it’s going to happen. It’s right there on the release schedule. Twice.Suffice to say, a pretty lame end-credits scene. Two people talking about two movies we already knew were coming. We’re upset it wasn’t something else. Something maybe more connected to the fabric of the movie, perhaps? There were a lot of possibilities. For example, who is now the president with Ross in prison? That could’ve been a cool reveal. We could have seen someone consider the implications of adamantium on a skeleton or to make some claws. We would’ve loved that. Oh, maybe the super beings who are responsible for this giant celestial being at the center of the movie could, I don’t know, return for a second? Sam could’ve started to make a list of possible Avengers? Joaquin could’ve discovered something as the Falcon? Someone could’ve considered what to do with the red Hulk? The list of much, much more interesting and cooler possibilities actually linked to this movie goes on and on. Heck, Bucky (Sebastian Stan) is in the movie. At least tease his appearance in Thunderbolts for crying out loud! But no. None of that. Just a super boring trailer for previously announced Avengers movies. Very much in line with the lazy rest of the film.Captain America: Brave New World is now in theaters. Avengers: Doomsday opens on May 1, 2026, which leads to Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.Want more io9 news? We’re all familiar with Marvel’s big green force of nature, but over the years there’s been a whole rainbow of Hulks.

It is certainly set in the world of the Marvel Universe, though. Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford star.

Marvel Studio’s latest, starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, opens February 14.

For generations Marvel has exported the idea of the national superhero around its globe in the wake of Captain America—but few have been as fraught as Captain America: Brave New World’s most controversial addition, Sabra.

After The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the Marvel star had some non-negotiable notes for his superhero outfit coming into Brave New World.

Israeli actress Shira Haas portrays Ruth Bat-Seraph, aka Sabra, in the movie—but her role may be different than what comics fans are expecting.
