Japanese Charts: Super Mario Party Jamboree Surpasses 1 Million Units Sold – Nintendo Life
GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpKeeping the party goingWe’re back with the latest Japanese charts folks; the first of 2025!It’s a little bit different for this first go around, too. Famitsu has posted software sales figures for the two weeks of 23rd-29th December and 30th Dec – 5th January, but no hardware figures. We’ll collate the top ten games for both weeks here, and hopefully we’ll be back on track with the hardware figures next time. It’s a shame, because we were sincerely hoping to see exactly how the Switch has done over the new year, but it can’t be helped.Anyway, let’s get cracking. for the week of 23rd-29th December, Super Mario Party Jamboree inches ever closer to that 1 million unit milestone (and you’ll see later that, yes, it managed to surpass it comfortably), while familiar favourites such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all claim their usual spots within the top ten.For the full breakdown, here’s a look at the (almost) latest top ten:SwitchDragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeSwitch930,505SwitchSwitchSwitchSwitchSuper Smash Bros. Overall sales for the week have decreased slightly, but as we mentioned earlier, Super Mario Party Jamboree has managed to sail past that 1 million unit milestone. For the full breakdown, here’s a look at the latest top ten:SwitchDragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeSwitch962,907SwitchSwitchSwitchSwitchMario & Luigi: BrothershipSwitchNintendo Switch SportsSwitch13,813Switch385,393Pokémon Scarlet / Pokémon VioletGet this party startedAn update to online playSo there you have it! I mean, it’s a Zelda game 3 months after release (holiday season gone by now) and it still hasn’t sold 400k copies…Jamboree, on the other hand, is doing really really well. And this is only for Japan (physical copies only??)Other than Mario Party, the numbers aren’t huge for this time of year. Not one Playstation game sold more than 12,000 in either week.Jamboree is easily in my top 3 Mario Parties.Which honestly I didn’t think Nintendo would be able to do this far into the series lifetime.@John_Deacon Yeah we’ll know for sure when Nintendo drops its latest financial update at the start of Feb, but they’re both a lot lower than I would’ve thought.Globally, I suspect Zelda will probably sit around the 3 million unit mark, but I’d be surprised if Brothership is anywhere close to 2 million.@John_Deacon Hard to find current numbers, but it does better than what Link’s Awakening did in the same period.I think the low sales are due to switch 2’s announcement, as both Mario vs Donkey Kong and Princess Peach Showtime easily made 1 million sold in about a 3 month span. Here’s hoping I’m right.Over 1 million copies sold and yet still cannot find a online gameThe relatively low sales of Echoes of Wisdom in Japan continues to surprise me. At still well shy of half a million units sold, has the 2D Zelda formula become niche? Or has that always been the case? Interesting.[EDIT]: Just looked at the comments and it seems like me and @John_Deacon are on the same page on this one! Great minds and all that.Love to see Jamboree still on top for both weeks and selling so well! Also happy for Dragon Quest III in 2nd even though there’s quite the jump between that and 1st, Brothership in 5th/7th, Echoes of Wisdom in 6th/9th and the usual Switch suspects in the rest of these charts!Square Enix have got to be happy with how well Dragon Quest has been doing in Japan, it’s been sitting near the top for a while now.@John_Deacon Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is doing better than Links Awakening in Japan. and links Awakening Switch is the best-selling 2D Zelda game ever worldwide. At this rate, Echoes of Wisdom will become the best-selling 2D Zelda game everZelda tends to be slow and steady in Japan. Granted this is a lot slower than BOTW and TOTK but it’s not a mainline Zelda release. Fantastic game IMO regardless.I think games like Echoes of Wisdom will get some sales uplift with Switch 2 if it boosts performance and/or if Nintendo comes up with a Switch 1 selects range during the Switch 2 lifecycle.Jamboree is truly the best in like ten years! I Love the signal this company is getting with this! 🥰@John_Deacon Echoes of Wisdom is way way ahead of Link’s Awakening in the same timeframe and has a higher digital share on top of that. It has already outsold like half the franchise in Japan retail alone.
@The_Pixel_King Same goes to you.@Olliemar28 Question: Why didn’t you include the whole top 30 here when Famitsu has done so?@TheSaneInsanity Weren’t Princess Peach Showtime sales low in comparison to other Mario titles?I really love this mario party (Jamboree) play it alot with my son. I hope they keep supporting this game for a long time (as mario kart 8) with more maps/minigames/characters etc. This is my favorite mario party game ever. This game and mario& luigi brothership made me a very happy gamer. Saying that as a high end pc gamer. So yeah also happy that the switch 2 is backward compatibel to keep playing these games.@fenlix probably I didn’t check. Don’t get me wrong I think sales have been declining, they may have just dropped off a cliff after switch’s sucessor was announced.Ha Super Mario Party Jamboree couldn’t beat the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake in 2024, it had to count 2025 numbers to finally beat it.Looking at the Famitsu charts, color me suprised!I had no idea they made a physical version of Suika Game.Echoes of Wisdom is actually selling better than the Japanese release of Link’s Awakeing, because the obvious:Obvious Echoes of Wisdom outsold Links Awakening. But these numbers are low the same way.FYI when you apply proper context it’s not bad at all.Switch is an ancient console at this point and a new system is coming soon. Even then the evergreens alone are still doing a respectable grind. Expect some more 1 million milestone Switch software broken soon.FYI Switch had no price cuts either so if they ever wanted to really aggressively push more hardware then that is still an option that has yet to be used.Sony though I got no excuses for. Their software has been largely dead on arrival for awhile now. Just comparing the performance (other sites has the top 30 already up) of DQ3HD of Switch (which btw had stock issues on launch due to demand exceeding supply) and PlayStation tells the whole story. I don’t expect another heartbeat until what? Wilds?@John_Deacon These are only retail sales, Echoes of Wisdom have probably sold over 700k copies in Japan including digital. Which is very good actually for a 2D Zelda game, they sell much less than 3D Zelda games.
