As the first mid-range iPhone in three years, it needs to offer an attractive retail offering to consumers without cannibalising the sales of more expensive and profitable iPhones higher up the portfolio.And one decision that lowers the SE’s specifications may come back to haunt Tim Cook and his team.The latest information on Apple’s next smartphones shows that the iPhone SE will follow the choices made by previous SE phones and ship with just one camera lens in the main camera assembly. Why could this be a problem? It just takes one look at the competition to realise the apparent difference.The desirable Android handsets in this price range all feature at least two lenses on the main camera. Some add a telephoto lens alongside the primary lens. Others decide on a wide-angle lens. Some are rebellious and decide a macro lens is needed. Yet all of these offerings have a visual numerical advantage.Sporting two lenses in the main camera is the norm. Compared to all of these leading handsets, the iPhone SE risks looking older and feeling cheaper.While this may not matter to Apple’s notoriously fanatical community, it will impact the casual consumer looking for a new phone in this price range.
