Ice-T has heated exchange with cop in surfaced video from N.J. traffic stop – NJ.com
A video, which has since gone viral, surfaced Thursday of a confrontation last year between Edgewater resident Tracy Marrow, better known as Ice-T, and an officer with the Hudson County Sheriff’s officer in the county.Ice-T is known for his time as a rapper and for his long-running role as Detective Fin Tutuola on “Law & Order: SVU.”The footage, posted on Youtube by Unspoken Crime Murders, shows body-worn camera footage from the incident, which began to unfold shortly before 11:30 a.m. on May 3, 2024.Morrow was pulled over for what looked like a missing front plate on his Porsche, Unspoken Crime Murders wrote in the video. The video did not specify where he was pulled over, but Ice-T says they were within walking distance to a DMV and the area depicted appears to be near the North Bergen DMV building. The footage begins with Ice-T telling the officer that he was on his way to a local DMV to renew his registration and the officer informing him that it expired in 2021 and that his license was expired as well.He said he tried to go to the DMV a day earlier but that the system there was down. The officer explained to him that he’s not supposed to drive anywhere with an expired license or registration to which Ice-T responds, “Why don’t you follow me right to this garage, the DMV is right here.“You don’t gotta be that serious about this,” he added. “Well you can, but you don’t have to.”“Well this is serious,” the officer said in response.“I could park this car right here and walk to the DMV,” Ice-T said. The officer then says he is going to tow the actor’s Porsche and Ice-T says “You’re not gonna tow my f—— vehicle, let me park my car right here.”“You’re not gonna move your car, give me the keys right now and I’m gonna tow your vehicle,” the officer then says. “Try to be more respectful of me and I’m gonna be more respectful to you.”He then gives the officer his keys and gets out of the vehicle, approaches him and says, “Give me my paperwork, you’re an (unclear expletive).”“Give me my f—— paperwork, get this on camera,” he says while looking right into the body-worn camera.Ice-T then begins recording the officer, who calls for backup. A sergeant later arrives and the pair explain what transpired. The sergeant eventually gives Ice-T the OK to park his car and go to the DMV but also gives the officer permission to write up four tickets, including one for driving with a suspended license, according to the publisher of the video.“Despite the tense exchange, the actor resolved the issue by paying the fines in full,” Unspoken Crime Murders wrote in the video description. As of 6:30 p.m., the video had over 1.5 million views.Attempts to reach representatives for Ice-T were unsuccessful Friday evening. Please consider supporting NJ.com with a voluntary subscription.Chris Sheldon may be reached at csheldon@njadvancemedia.com.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
