The delay has been attributed to the game show’s comedy-driven dynamic, which did not feel tonally appropriate amid coverage of the ongoing California devastation. Here’s what CBS’ schedule now looks like:THURSDAY, JAN. 98 pm Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (encore)8:30 pm Ghosts (encore)9 pm Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (encore)9:30 pm Ghosts (encore)10 pm Matlock (encore)
THURSDAY, JAN. 168 pm Hollywood Squares series premiere9 pm Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (encore)9:30 pm Ghosts (encore)10 pm Matlock (encore)Hollywood Squares, which has aired multiple iterations since its debut on NBC back in 1966, is a game show in which two contestants play tic-tac-toe to win cash and prizes. Each square on their board, though, is occupied by a different celebrity, who is asked a question by the player; the contestant must then decide whether the celebrity’s answer is correct.Following its series premiere on Jan. 16, CBS’ reboot will move to Wednesdays beginning Jan. 29, where it will air as part of CBS Game Night and follow new episodes of The Price Is Right at Night and Raid the Cage. Nate Burleson (CBS Mornings) hosts the latest version of the series, with actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore taking center square. Also on Thursday, the NBA postponed its planned game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets as a result of the wildfires; get full details here.Comments are monitored, so don’t forkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. ΔSo a show with a “comedy driven dynamic” is being replaced by shows with a comedy driven dynamic.Let’s not play dumb, a show that has the title “Hollywood” in its name is getting postponed due to the nature of what’s actually going on in the area that is devasting thousands. Lives were lost, local businesses ruined, homes of many without fire insurance got scorched. There’s a lot of emotions going on. DG, please use some empathy and common sense.Thank you.Although there are other places named Hollywood (like in Florida) in the country. From the older versions of this show, I don’t remember them specifically referring to the California Hollywood in anything they did.Don’t be stupid. When people hear “Hollywood,” they don’t think of Florida or anywhere else. The word is synonymous with movie stars and glitz and glamour.
You think the celebrities that have always been involved are known for their work in some other Hollywood? No, a show with Hollywood in the title, in which Hollywood celebrities crack wise about current events (taped weeks ago), at a time when parts of Hollywood are burning, is being replaced by a ’90s-set sitcom and a comedy about Upstate New York ghosts. –Mgmt.Sorry but i have been looking forward to this all week… its awful what has happened in Cali but this would be a diversion. Next question is will CBS put Fire Country on the shelf for awhile?CBS has already pulled this Friday’s Fire Country rerun; I am keeping tabs on the fate of upcoming new episodes. It would be a diversion for us if we weren’t in our 55th hour of non-stop, commercial free fire coverage on every broadcast channel watching an incalculable number of structures go up in flames and tens of thousands of people forced to evacuate (while others of us are on evacuation watch) as more fires flare up every day. Or to say, even if they wanted to air the shows we wouldn’t be able to see them because we’re in our 55th hour of non-stop, commercial free, etc.I am grateful for the decision to postpone the airings. There are plenty of options if you’re searching for “diversions.” Virtually everybody has cable or satellite or streaming services. All of which likely has some programs you haven’t seen before.
Even if you only have over-the-air, digital subchannels exist with yet more options.Exactly! This doesn’t make sense.I really don’t see why a game show being on TV has anything to do with a natural disaster in one part of the country. If New England gets a foot of snow next week, will ABC cancel Grey’s Anatomy? If there’s a flood in Texas will NBC cancel The Irrational?Sorry for being blunt, but really? The NBA and NHL have canceled professional athletic games in the Los Angeles area. Are you all going to complain about how that’s not right? You guys have to stop making everything political, where’s your humanity?Your point, which maybe was meant well, immediately became moot when you made the accusation that Jim made “everything political”, as you say. There was NOTHING political about his comment. At all. Go back to school and learn what words mean if you want to contribute. And in case you’re confused, here’s a hint: he never said anything about the government in his comment. Again I’ll say it for your obviously simplistic mind: NOTHING political was said.“Professional athletic games” LOLNeither of those make sense. Those shows are not set in those locations. However, ABC might in fact pull the plug on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy if the specific episode featured a major snowstorm and was due to air while part of the nation was being inundated with a similar storm.I understand the reasons for the delay but was very disappointed in the delay. If it had premiered last night, it was doomed to get a 0.0 rating in the Los Angeles market due to ongoing news coverage. Can’t launch a show with a handicap like that. Then you add to it the very clear Hollywood tie-in and it’s a very logical move to make.As much as I’d like to believe it was an altruistic move, I agree about the ratings aspect of the decision.By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
