Hollow Knight: Silksong Has Vanished From US Switch eShop – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpUpdate: Restored after a few hoursUpdate [Tue 18th Feb 2025, 9:44pm]: You can breathe a sigh of relief, folks — the Switch eShop page for Silksong is back up on Nintendo’s storefront. While the game still doesn’t appear when you search for it on the website, you can find it by searching on Google for ‘Silksong eShop’ or by clicking the Nintendo logo on Team Cherry’s official Hollow Knight: Silksong website.Panic over, then?Original Story: Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Switch eShop listing has disappeared from the North American storefront.Spotted on the Silksong subreddit (via Wario64), the page was seemingly removed earlier today. Now, when you search for Silksong on the eShop, you only get a result for Hollow Knight.Silksong’s page is still up in Europe, the UK, and on other storefronts such as the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, Steam, and GOG, among many others. We imagine Team Cherry or Nintendo is likely just updating the page for some reason, given that the page is still up on the eShop in other countries, but if you know what Silksong fans are like, you can imagine the response. The thing is, it’s been just over six years since Silksong was officially announced as a sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight. Revealed on 14th February 2019, the game was even playable at E3 2019.Development updates have been few and far between, and that’s part of the problem here — any movement or changes, no matter how small, will cause a stir in a community that’s hungry for news. A simple chocolate cake picture was a recent furore that eventually led to nothing. At least, that’s where it is right now.Folks: the game is still in development! It is coming. In fact, this isn’t even the first time the eShop page has been removed. Back in February 2022, the eShop listing disappeared, only for it to return in June of the same year. We’ll let you if Silksong is relisted in North America, or if there are any changes or updates. After weeks of rumoursSong of silencePlease note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Dust in the wind..Even Nintendo is sick of pretending that Silksong exists.okay I guess we’re pretending a little longer. In before eventual “This means Silksong is dead! They played us for absolute fools!!!” doomsday comment. Not a fan of announcing games early but in this case they had to as originally Hornet was meant to be a stretch goal reward for the Kickstarter. They had to let backers know this wasn’t coming and why, it had morphed into a sequel instead (that they are giving to hollow knight backers) Tough position to be in, ideally they would have wanted to wait several years to announce it.It’s not the first time it’s been taken down and it’s still listed in Europe, it’s probably just some sort of automated process from going long enough without updating.Hollow Knight: Silksong 🤝 Katana ZERO DLC.Both don’t exist.I’m betting that they’ll finally give a date of release or even release it directly at the Switch 2 Direct in April. It may have started on Steam but it was a huge success on Switch so I think it’s very likely that they are waiting for that and that’s why they haven’t said anything in such a long time. This means nothing, this better be a good game because the meme is getting annoying 😂Gonna be a bit of a buzzkill, but I think it’s important for some people to remember. The more and more you anticipate and build up a game, in this case Silksong, the more and more you expect from it. I have no doubt Silksong will be a good game, great even. But the more and more your anticipation builds, the higher and higher you raise your expectations. It’s good to be hyped, we all love hype, but remember to also be realistic. I can promise you with 1000% certainty, people will be doomposting about how “Silksong was a disaster” or “Why Hollow Knight succeeded while Silksong failed” after its release. I promise you, those videos will happen, and people are perfectly valid to feel how they will. That said, I believe many have already raised their expectations way too high, to a point where nothing could satisfy them. Before the game eventually releases, try to reel those feelings back and remember to keep them in check. Lest you anticipate an 11/10 game, when the rating scale doesn’t even reach that high, so to speak. The developers are putting themselves under a lot of pressure to replicate the success from the first hollow knight.. They need to calm down.Yes, I believe it will release when it’s done. No, I don’t know when will it be@PtM It isn’t back up as far as I can see.Is the game still in development? Yes. But that is no guarantee it’ll ever actually release.I hate how this counts as “news” for Silksong.Maybe Team Cherry is no longer self-publishing it.@PtM What is non-existent may never live. 😁@PtM Huh. So it exists, but it doesn’t come up when I search “Silksong”.My guess is that because the team is only 3 people and Hollow Knight was so successful on top of being self published they likely have no financial burdens and thus no need to rush to get the game out to keep the lights on. Feature creep probably set in long ago and they’ve indulged in it because they can afford to indefinitely. They can take all the time they want as far as I’m concerned, but I am hopeful that we’ll see it soon.I don’t care anymore. Until I see “Out Now” I don’t care.@Novamii I don’t think that’s much of a problem in this site. The silksong fanbase on Reddit might be a better audience although that ship has sailed a long time ago. Considering how differenttly they handled communication compared to Hollow Knight with 2 years and counting of radio silence and about six years passing since it was announced, I don’t think that there’s a way that the final product will reach expectations no matter how good it is.@roy130390 Yeah, people on here are much more grounded with hopes and expectations, I just think it’s something we all could stand to remind ourselves. Hype and anticipation can get the better of us, and we should remember to balance optimism with realism. Be it with a game, console, or life in general.Alright! Give it up for day… day… uh how many days has it been since Silksong was announced?
(For anyone that missed it, this comment is a spongebob reference)At this point, it might as well be vanished for good, for me.@Greatluigi Almost 6 years.Removed – unconstructive@Greatluigi at this point if they do release it, I hope I don’t have to play the first one. I got plenty of games on backlog rn.But this game has no real updates since forever so… yeah.Everyone: OMG it’s finally happening guys! Silksong is finally going to be anno-
Rest of the Year: nothing else ever happensI enjoyed Hollow Knight, but it’s not my favorite type of game by far… so all the Silksong pining has always amused me lol”They played us like a damn fiddle!!! “Sorry, I had to🤭2019? Pre-Covid? Playable at E3?This is basically in the pre Thanos snap timeline. 😂@NintendoByNature I see people saying something is “vaporware” any time it’s announced too earlier and takes years to come out.Games take time to develop. Especially ones from small developers with detailed, hand-drawn animation like this.@Ralizah I was merely joking tbh. This reminds me of how I felt about Bayonetta 3 though. The longer I waited the less excited I was for it.@NintendoByNature A lot of people aren’t when they say it. Yeah, that’s the big danger of announcing things way too early in development. Silksong will be successful, of course, but the wave of hype for the game has largely crested for most people.A much more recent announcement, leading into a release window, would have maintained a ton of momentum up to release.Great it’s back now. I just wanted to buy it, but it wasn’t there.@Ralizah Indie games do not typically take this long to develop. This game has far exceeded the development time of the original Hollow Knight and the worrisome lack of communication from the devs paints a negative picture of how this game’s development is faring. This game, in the summer of 2022, was promised to be released within a year, only for it to be a no-show and delayed indefinitely soon after. To say that this is “normal” for indie games is about as farfetched and ignorant a claim as one can make. The game has been in development for 7+ years with several complications and deafening silence from the devs. Things cannot be going well, much less according to plan.@Novamii I agree! Outrage culture is all the rage these days.@Ralizah absolutely. I thought my dust in the wind comment was a dead giveaway 😜.I’m sure it’ll do just fine but man, at this point, I’m really in no rush to play it like I was a few years back. Then again, if this is getting 9s and 10a across the board, I’m certain that’ll change my tune hah.Well certainly something has changed with regards to its marketing… That has to mean there’s at least some movement.Understandably the fan base is now incredibly weary of let downs and non-news… But why would this happen if there wasn’t at least something occuring?A troll at Nintendo of America? My bingo card had Silksong coming out before Metroid Prime 4…Ima say it. Vaporware.Duke Nukem Forever: Sorry I took so longSilksong: Hold my beerI need someone to tell me how to enjoy Hollow Knight. I love metroid style games but HK is so incredibly annoying at the start. When you die it’s such a big punishment it puts me off playing further.
