Happy dwarf planet Pluto everyone – 247Sports

February 18th, it commemorates the discovery of the dwarf planet Pluto by astronomer Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. Pluto held the title of the ninth planet in our solar system until 2006 when it was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union.Even though Pluto’s planetary status has changed, its discovery remains a monumental achievement in the field of astronomy. Enthusiasts celebrate Pluto Day by learning more about the distant world, its unique features, and the ongoing debate surrounding its classification.I still think after viewing the magnificent planet real close THAT It should be counted as ninth planet! My kids love that song. They’ll think this info is cool too, thanks Esco!It had the atmosphere and has the refuelable materials! Tell me why it shouldn’t be reclassified to ninth planet! This post was edited by buckeyebison 1 day agobuckeyebison said… (original post) It had the atmosphere and has the refuelable materials! Of course I don’t remember it now, been awhile.I thought the term “Dwarf” was offensive? I’m sure Pluto is feeling triggered by losing its planet status, but then to be called a dwarf?? Of course I don’t remember it now, been awhile. When I was in grade school many years ago I read a book on the discovery of Pluto and Clyde Tombaugh. After thar I was always interested in the planet and kept tabs on news about it. For a long time it was assumed it was an irregular shape somewhat like a potato until images from the new horizon spacecraft showed it to be a sphere It is still pretty small, only about 2/3rd the size of the moon.HoosierBuckeye said… (original post) I thought the term “Dwarf” was offensive? Astronomers’ attempts to call it anything else is ridiculous. So what if it hasn’t “cleared a path” in its orbit. Mercury is only slightly larger than Pluto but its orbit is clear because of its proximity to the sun. Mercury has no moon. If Pluto isn’t a planet, why should Mercury be considered one?Ok, rant is over. Some cool theories in science fiction literature about where Pluto came from. In Larry Niven’s World of the Ptavvs, a spaceship smacked into it traveling near the speed of light, causing it to be pushed out of Neptune’s orbit. In James Hogan’s Inherit the Stars, it is the remnant of a planet that, when destroyed, created the asteroid belt, with the biggest chunk being pushed way out to beyond Neptune’s orbit. Of course now that we’ve visited it by probe, we know its not a chunk of another planet but still a pretty interesting idea. Anyone know of other sci fi explanations for Pluto?TroutDenver said… (original post) Born on UranusThis post was edited by ERNiner 1 day agoDirtnasty said… (original post) Beat me to it while the planet suffers from.
