Halo PS5 Rumours Intensify in Aftermath of Forza Horizon 5 Reveal – Push Square

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpPush SquareGuestLogin or Sign UpMaster Chief Collection imminentXbox boss Phil Spencer has already indicated that Microsoft is going all-in on third-party publishing, so it was no real surprise to see the long-rumoured Forza Horizon 5 announced for PS5 overnight.Of course, the confirmation has led to inevitable speculation that it’s only a matter of time before the remainder of Xbox’s supposed “big three” make the transition, with both Halo and Gears of War on the docket.Writing on X (or Twitter), Windows Central’s Jez Corden said that the “Master Chief Collection is first, I heard”. He followed up: “We’ll see.”Rumours of Halo on PS5 have been rampant for quite some time, with trusted industry tipster NateDrake teasing it earlier in the year. That same leaker went on to nail the reveal date of the Nintendo Switch 2, basically confirming his credentials. So too is Microsoft Flight SimulatorYour PlayStation is an XboxWhile it all fits with Microsoft’s current strategy, Halo releasing on Sony’s console would be a milestone moment, as Master Chief has typically been seen as the mascot of Xbox. But recent financials revealed slumping hardware sales for Microsoft’s gaming division, and the inclusion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in Xbox Game Pass only led to 2% growth in content and services. CEO Satya Nadella has talked at length about the division increasing its revenue by bringing more games to more platforms. There’s no question that Forza Horizon 5 is going to be a colossal hit when it releases on PS5, and we’d expect similar results for Halo: The Master Chief Collection should these rumours be accurate. All in all, it’s looking increasingly like Microsoft will be leaning on PlayStation’s fanbase to boost the income of its business.[source twitter.com, via playstationlifestyle.net]About Sammy BarkerAs the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between. It’s playstation.Again, stop using Jez Corden as a source, a year ago he literally said “no, xbox isn’t porting it’s console exclusives to playstation. its just hard hopium from fanboys.”Also, at this point everyone expects every Microsoft title to be on PS5 (and Switch 2), in fact I fully expect at least Starfield and Gears to also make the jump this year, feel free to use this comment as source, it has more credibility than Jez Corden lmaoyay more rumors. i’m actually hoping halo comes to more platforms so that the MCC can get a resurgence. Halo Infinite is trash@IOI It’s not just Jez Corden saying this, though. Can’t wait to double dip on both Halo and Forza and most likely Starfield as well. Crazy that Forza and Halo will be on a Playstation console.@get2sammyb But your article is using his tweet as source, at least other sources like Tom Warren, Andy Robinson or particularly Tom Henderson have more credibility, but then again, at this point everyone expects it to happen, it’s still gonna be a bombshell when it drops for sure.@get2sammybI loved Gran Turismo when it first launched but I fell out of love with it when I tried to delete my progress and start over from the beginning and realised you simply can’t do it.I hadn’t played it for over a year and couldn’t quite get up to speed with where I was up to so just wanted to delete and start over but for whatever stupid reason they won’t let us so until they rectify that I unfortunately won’t play it againOuch, what a burn…@Andy22385 Yeah you’re right, People would sub to Gamepass and drop Plus in a heartbeat.I just want Halo and Rare Replay on Switch 2. As for Playstation, I wouldn’t be against their newer stuff, like South of Midnight. But they’re still playing so coy with all this, it’s hard to confidently expect titles that weren’t consequence of major acquisitions releasing in parity outside of the Xbox ecosystem.i really don’t care for any of the old ms games releases. The only interesting one for me is gears of war, but i have already played that on pc(same with ori). Sunset overdrive would be fine, but it would need a remake at this point. New gears game and new fable game will be a very welcome addition to the ps catalogue.I feel like a mascot game like Halo shouldn’t be on other platform, or at least other consoles. Especially since Xbox hasn’t given up on making a new console@RoomWithaMoose Rare Replay is probably not happening any time soon. The amount of effort to get all those emulated games especially the 360 games working would most likely not make it worth it…My hope is for E-Day on ps5 and the MC Collection on Switch 2, pretty cool we’re living in this reality for once. Down with exclusives! Why are people even discussing this anymore? How much more often and clear must they confirm, that everything that’ll make profit is coming to PS sooner or later?@ATaco I think Microsoft would like very much to put GamePass on PlayStation… i suspect however, Sony might have just an objection or two or 50million (give or take, depending on how many are currently subscribed to PS+ across the different tiers). There is literally no advantage to Sony as a company to host this – until the coffin of XBox is well and truly in the ground. But even then, I think the aspirations of Microsoft are still dangerous to Sony, even if they go full third-party (what Sony doesn’t want is to become the platform maker, and not the store-front-taker… and that’s what GP on PlayStation would turn it into).Forza and Gears yes. Halo? No interest. Played it on the xbox and the 360 dont need to play it again. Everything past Halo 3 was garbage. Not a fan of Halo. I finished Halo Combat Evolved on PC eons ago and i felt it’s an okay FPS but i never get the hype compare to other FPS like CoD, Medal of Honor, or Doom. But eh, good news i guess for people who wants to play Halo on their PS5.Killer Instinct pleaseI’m more interested in a Gears of War collection. Hopefully that won’t be long after.@get2sammyb depends on your tastes. Forza horizon is more academy and less of a sim.I personally don’t like GT or Forza Motorsport but love Forza horizonI have never really liked Halo, I just didn’t like the whole story for one and I am not really the biggest FPS fan really. Gears of War however? Yep, I’d be down to play that, that’s for sure! But when Halo is finally announced, that is going to be the biggest signal that it probably doesn’t make much sense in buying Xboxes moving forward as PlayStation will be the best place to play. Also, as far as Gamepass goes, I would easily see it on PlayStation, but not in the iteration that we see now. It would be more of a Microsoft only Gamepass, similar to EA and Ubisoft and just have all the games that are owned by Microsoft, hell they have enough games under their umbrella to have a pretty bolstered line up.@ATaco Gamepass in its current format will never be on PS. Simply because of 3rd party games. Sony wouldn’t want to lose the sales from any 3rd party game that’s on GP.Now, a MS only version similair to EA or Ubisoft, that I can see happening. After playing Halo Infinite when it released I can safely say this is one Xbox series I’m not interested in coming over to Playstation. So it’s Indy and Forza in Spring, Probably Starfield in the Summer and Outer worlds 2 and Halo MCC in Winter.@Weebleman It’s not just Sony that wouldn’t want to lose 3rd party sales, the 3rd party studios themselves wouldn’t want to miss out on those PlayStation sales. Microsoft would have to offer them treble what they do now to cover the loss of sales.@Member_the_game create a new user on playstation and you can start over. I have my main account plus 2 additional ones I made just for GT7.So that gives me 2 accounts that for GT7 multiplayer are based in the emea region & the 3rd account is US region.I race in multiplayer almost exclusively and sometimes you will get targeted by an angry toddler having a tantrum over multiple races. When that happens I just hop accounts to race under a different persona & go back to enjoying my races while the toddler settles down.Did the collection remaster Halo 2 as well as Halo 1?@Weebleman I’ve been saying this for ages. I think it’s what MS will want – let’s face it, they have a big enough catalogue/studios to make it possible.@UltimateOtaku91 I’d be interested in playing the first 4 games, TBH@Weebleman Yeah I agree, especially as Sony would presumably get a cut from it being on there.@IOI that may have been the case last year plans change@Bingbongboyo for who? this is a win for everyoneI’m just happy that this could mean Perfect Dark will come to PS5, that’s the only game I was gutted about at the showcase last year.
Edit: Stop giving Jeff Scrub and Jez Cordon a platform.Anyone thinking or hoping that Game Pass could come to Playstation is simply not thinking properly. Making a game for another platform is rarely as simple as hitting ‘recompile’ so all Game pass titles would need to have decent Playstation versions. The Game Pass publishing deal with Microsoft is specifically tied to Microsoft’s hardware platforms. No 3rd party would accept losing the sales on playstation platforms for their existing contracts and microsoft would have to renegotiate every contract and pay up lots more money if they wished to include their GP games on another platform. The best you could hope for would be a much more limited service like EA play or the Ubi equivalent, where it includes MS 1st party titles but little else – this would be possible, but I doubt MS want that. They have specifically launched their games on PS to make money, not to find a way to give them for cheap.I have a series X and GP, but do prefer to play on PS if given a choice. I’d pay for Halo MCC to be able to play Halo 2 on Playstation, simply because it’s an old favourite. Most of what I play on game pass I wouldn’t pay full price for anyway, and I often fall off a title hard within a few hours of trying it, so it’s only a couple of titles I’ll buy on PS.Microsoft bit off more than they could chew with the ABK acquisition, and the resultant focus from shareholders and decline in its hardware sales have ensured they become the 3rd party publisher such a deal was always going to make. They will make plenty as long as the games keep flowing and they publish everywhere. I suspect the hardware platform will decrease still further and they will make one last ‘hurrah’ for the faithfull before becoming software publishing only, but time will tell. Not sure why but the thought of Halo on PS leaves me a little sad. Feels like Halo should always be Xbox console exclusive, the way Mario and Zelda games should always remain Nintendo exclusive.@ATaco I doubt Sony would let them but that would be amazingMy voting for all these will be I’ve already got it on Xbox so don’t need to buy it again. Only people with just the PS5 will be buying these games. For me I’ll not be buying any games that I can play through GPU.@ATaco playstation has tried this with ps+ a few times and the financial hit is to much@Titntin this is my thoughts, however you made the point far more eloquently than I could muster.@ATaco They wouldn’t be able to drop PS+ as you would still need it to play anything online. The only way GP will come to playstation is if MS dial it back to be a 1st party games sub service only, similar to EA Play or Ubisoft+I actually think this is the direction they will go long term anyway as they are full steam ahead on being a publisher, hardware will exist, but its second fiddle to software now.Playing Halo & Gears Of War on Playstation. How things change.@Fyz306903 Yes Halo 2 is “Remastered” in Halo MCC (Halo 2 Anniversary) it was actually one of the main selling points of this Collection back in 2014… Of course unlike Halo 1 Anniversary it’s actually an Xbone/PS4 Gen Remaster (as opposed to a 360/PS3 Era one for Halo 1)The redone OST is REALLY DAMN GOOD and all the Cutscenes done by Blur Studios are also fantastic (and of course, like Halo 1 Anniversary you can hit the “Select” button at any time to swap between the OG/Remastered Graphics & OST seamlessly)Smart moves by MS. They’d sell multiple millions of copies almost immediately, I reckon. With ABK, MS is already the biggest third party publisher on PlayStation. Why would MS leave money on the table?I hope MS’ commitment to maintain a hardware division lasts. Sure, I doubt PlayStation would ever publish there, but by continuing to be in the space it would at least give PlayStation some reason to try. One thought I’ve had is whether MS could make the XBox platform itself open, so that other companies could make an XBox, in the same way that they can make a PC running windows. Imagine a range of XBoxes being offered by Dell, HP, Microsoft itself, Samsung, etc, at different specs and price points. Microsoft has an edge with its cloud tech and compatibility of its games across its devices on the back-end, so its possible that it would be able to find a way that building games for multiple SKUs of XBoxes isn’t too burdensome on developers.I can see Microsoft releasing a device to hook up on the tv for gamepass and just become a third party publisher with their own subscription service at this point. This would also allow them to buy more studios in the future.I really want to play Halo! My friends who have Xbox always showered praises to that franchise. And the Masterchief Collection will be a lot of bang for our buck!!@ATaco but youd need ps plus to play those games online , Sony would never allow that, unless ms went full on publisher and pulled out of the console game , which is looking more and more likely, so who knows.Always thought halo was overrated especially after the first game but realise im definitely in the minority with that view!As much as I love Halo I’d much prefer to have the Fable trilogy, Sunset Overdrive, DR3, Recore, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Conker, Viva Piñata, Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on PS@Dodoo
Halo 2 is my favourite Halo the remaster done via the master chief collection was absolutely fantastic@Fyz306903 Yes Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach and Halo 4 I believe all got l remasters via the Master Chief Collection@Toot1st it was in response to get2sammybs reply to IOI. Trying to be funny, but because I’m old my typing is so slow, by the time I posted it a pile of other people had also replied, leaving my attempt at humour lost. And it wasn’t even that funny to begin with.@ATaco if Game pass were to come to Playstation. Do you earn Achievements or Trophies? Would you need an Xbox login like PC game pass? Who makes the money on the microtransactions and expansions? It will essentially be a layer on top of Playstation. I don’t think it will work unless it’s more of a premium to have it on Playstation so MS makes their money, but then everything else goes to Sony. Seems messy@nomither6 i wouldn’t call Halo Infinite trash. It Certainly is nowhere near as good as 1-3 and Reach but it’s ok.@FuzzieGinge88 i mean the trilogy and reach were just really good and set high standards .@ATaco Microsoft wants to. The issue is Sony not wanting that.@RiverGenieYeah I’ve heard that’s a possibility…. it just seems like too much effort to do something that in theory at least should be straight forward…Delete progress….. start again from the beginning…..It’s borderline criminal that they’ve made it so difficult@charbtronic if it did which I don’t think it would I would guess that it would be cloud based streaming xbox games on the ps5I played and beat all of them I’d gladly rebuy and replay the whole set if it came to ps5I want the collection on the switch 2.Day one, full price.
I’ll sell plasma if I have to.I was a huge Halo fan when it started but I lost interest in it many years ago (my last Halo was 4). I beat each of the first three at least a couple times solo and played through them in co-op countless times (both online and in person). The problem for me was the campaigns of the franchise declined in quality due to the focus shifting to competitive multiplayer and the franchise transitioning from Bungie to 343 (which recently rebranded itself to Halo Stufios).Shrugs Of course Halo’s online competitive multiplayer has been far and away the largest driver of the franchise since arguably Halo 2 so if they get that part right I’m sure Halo will do well commercially.@Dragoon1994 Interesting list. It’s been years since I’ve thought of Viva Pinata. I bought that game and played it with my daughters when they were very young but we didnt get far because a key part of the game was developing the land, luring in piñatas and then smashing some of them in order to lure in bigger, fancier piñatas. The smashing piñatas thing was a step too far for my kids so we never unlocked most of the pinatas 😋.I can still sing the theme song but I think Viva Piñata’s concept is why it didn’t become the hit among younger gamers MS seemed to want it to be.
