If implemented, this could give Google Message users the ability to erase texts without the receiver being notified.Android Authority doesn’t know when the feature will arrive, if at all. But, as the groundwork code is in place, and the feature already exists on iMessage, it seems like an obvious upgrade and would represent a major new tool for Google’s text platform. While a public release is not guaranteed, the Rich Communication Services (RCS) Universal Profile v2.7, announced in June 2024, aims to improve cross-platform compatibility and streamlined features. This could lead to greater feature parity between RCS systems. For example, features present in iMessage might eventually appear in some form on Google Messages, though this is not assured.Implementation of these shared features can vary. For example, on Google messages you are not able to see the original edited message whereas on iMessage you can. Time will tell whether the new feature will be more akin to other Google applications, such as Google Chat on GSuite which notifies both parties, or instead will take a more silent route like iMessage, where only the sender is aware. One Community.
