Galaxy S25 Ultra Racks Up First Place In DXOMark’s Display Tests, Which Praised Its ‘Excellent Readability Outdoors’ While Showcasing ‘Good Video Experience’ & More – Wccftech
Samsung introduced its HOP 3.0 technology with the Galaxy S25 launch, which is the company’s own version of LTPO technology, bringing in a wave of improvements. However, as you would have guessed, the best components would be saved for its top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra, and based on the latest results from independent benchmarking website DXOMark, the flagship ends up obtaining first position in the display tests. The flagship checks the majority of the boxes, but there are some areas that require improvement, as readers will soon find out.The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s anti-reflective coating continues to receive praise from DXOMark, with the lack of reflection from the LTPO OLED making Samsung’s premium offering one of the best smartphones available regarding readability. In various tests, the device measured a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, which remains unchanged from the Galaxy S24 Ultra.“The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra continues to be among the top devices for readability. With its anti-reflective coating and impressive luminance, it remains the device in our database that brings the best-in-class readability experience when outdoors. In our tests under bright sunlight, the device achieved a measured peak brightness of 2,600 nits, similar to the S24 Ultra. Although it delivered a great experience outdoors and good results indoor, the display was slightly too bright in low-light conditions.”Regardless, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s display can adapt well in all environments, with its peak luminance now more than three times less compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with DXOMark complaining that the latter was too uncomfortable on the eyes. As for video playback, no frame drops were recorded, hinting at the flagship’s improved display response time.“In video, the S25 Ultra is at the top of our database, showing strong improvements vs. the S24 Ultra. The brightness was very well adapted in all environments, particularly in low-light, where its predecessor fell short. The device now features a 24 nits of HDR peak luminance in low light, a level that is much more adapted than the 80 nits of its predecessor, which was too bright to be considered comfortable to the eyes. Local contrasts were well-adjusted for both low-light and indoor environments. In video playback, the flagship device managed frame mismatches very well and showed no frame drops.”While the majority of the test results showered the Galaxy S25 Ultra with praise, DXOMark had some negative remarks too. For instance, the device’s touch performance delivered an overall positive experience, but the panel occasionally showed unintentional touches. Compared to the other alternatives priced in the same bracket, the Galaxy S25 Ultra exhibited more of this behavior, which could be addressed in the future with the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s release.
