Samsung was definitely caught off-guard when Huawei went ahead and announced the industry’s commercially available tri-fold smartphone called the Mate XT, which is a testament to the Chinese firm’s grit when faced with overwhelming trade sanctions. With no such barriers blocking the Korean giant’s progress, we can only imagine what the internal atmosphere at Samsung’s headquarters would have been like. Thankfully, according to the latest rumor, the company wants to rectify its lack of conviction and introduce its first tri-fold smartphone called the Galaxy G Fold, with the latest update stating that it could be unveiled in the third quarter of 2025.Instead of the S-folding pattern adopted by the Mate XT, the Galaxy G Fold will reportedly have both of its displays fold inward, hence the name of the upcoming device. As for why Samsung will incorporate this design, it likely has to do with improving the durability of the foldable handset and protecting it from sharp objects that will damage the screens. Coming to the display specifications, tipster yeux1122 has mentioned that the Galaxy G Fold’s exact panel size will measure 9.96 inches when it is entirely unfolded, giving ample screen real estate to the user.ITHome reports that the aforementioned display size will be 30 percent larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 7.6-inch screen. The height is said to measure 6.54 inches, suggesting that it should be fairly easy to carry around when the device returns to its normal form factor. Sadly, no pricing details were mentioned, nor which chipset will power its innards. However, we do not expect Samsung to compromise the appeal of the Galaxy G Fold by using an Exynos 2500, so we may see the Snapdragon 8 Elite with overclocked frequencies inside the smartphone.Irrespective of what kind of utility is provided by the Galaxy G Fold, the high price alone means that the device may not experience significant market penetration. However, when completely unfolded, the Galaxy G Fold can deliver the same experience as a tablet, so we could see some positive reception from it.
