Did Shemar Stewart punch his ticket to the Chicago Bears with an epic NFL Combine? – Windy City Gridiron

Filed under:The Texas A&M edge rusher tested off the charts, drawing comparisons to Myles Garrett’s freakish Combine performance. One of the hottest names at the NFL Combine just put himself firmly in the conversation for the Chicago Bears’ No. 10 overall pick in April — if not possibly testing himself out of their range.Everyone expected Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart to put together a strong workout in Indianapolis on Thursday, but he probably exceeded even our lofty predictions.First, Stewart jumped out of Lucas Oil Stadium with a 40-inch vertical leap and a 10’11” broad jump that had the press box buzzing. Then, after Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr. posted unofficial 40-yard dash times of 4.50 and 4.47 seconds, respectively, Stewart put on his own show in the event with video game times of 4.60 and 4.59 seconds at 6-5, 267 pounds.Shemar Stewart…. 10’11” broad jump. At his size??? pic.twitter.com/AdBJpoGKqnFor perspective, Stewart’s Combine performance has put him on the level of fellow Aggie alum Myles Garrett, who posted almost the same Relative Athletic Score (RAS) at a similar size with many almost identical testing metrics. So when we call Stewart freakish, just know it’s not hyperbole. With testing numbers like that, one could easily project Stewart going inside the top 10 of the draft before he reaches the Bears. However, there’s a caveat to that: while he was disruptive in college, posting more than three pressures a game, his sack production (4.5 in three college seasons) is majorly lacking.Normally I wait before posting again, but Stewart was just close enough that it mattered. We officially have our first 10.00 watch of the season! This ranked 1 out of 1802 DE from 1987 to 2025. https://t.co/r9HXsXwSH4 pic.twitter.com/U45LdHmkAnHis raw ability screams top-10, maybe even top-five, pick. But that puzzling lack of pure tangible impact could make teams hesitant enough to let him fall into the Bears’ range. Of course, the question then becomes whether the Bears believe they can be the ones to harness Stewart’s immense gifts.Given Ryan Poles’ penchant for drafting premium positions with his first picks of each draft and the Bears’ glaring need for a productive edge across from Montez Sweat, taking a shot on Stewart could make a lot of sense — if the answer to that previous query is “yes.”If Stewart either proves too risky or goes too early, keep an eye out for Pearce, who had an electric 40-yard dash and performed well in his on-field drills.Gambling Problem?
