We were anticipating some kind of open world game, then. But whatever it was making, it’s now going to have to pivot fast. Sony said it won’t close down the studio, but it will work closely with the team to determine exactly which projects it works on moving forwards.Responding to the craziness, community manager Kevin McAllister thanked fans for the love and support, and promised it still plans on “creating cool sh*t”.But exactly how much work it’ll be able to salvage, if any, is unclear. With games taking at least five years to make these days, there’s a good chance we may not be playing Bend Studio’s next title until around 2030 or so.When you consider that Days Gone launched all the way back in 2019, it’s perfectly feasible we could go ten years without seeing a new title from the team. A remaster of the biker title has been rumoured, but that’s not necessarily going to sate the appetite of PlayStation’s insatiable fanbase.Unless anything changes, it could be a lean few years on the PS5 first-party front, outside of the handful of titles that have already been announced.[source x.com]About Sammy BarkerAs the Editor of Push Square, Sammy has over 15 years of experience analysing the world of PlayStation, from PS3 through PS5 and everything in between. But I certainly understand your concern; I share it too!Is it the same dude that was malding about days gone inclusion in astrobot?@get2sammyb It is, but it’s such a gigantic waste of their talent and potential, especially Bluepoint. How long will the skilled and creative people stick around if they get permanently relegated to working on other people’s stuff? At that point, it begs the question of why did Sony bother acquiring Bluepoint to begin with other than taking them off the board for other companies.Bend – should do Days Gone 2, but it’s very unlikely. If they’re not dismantled and assign to support other in-house teams, then probably they’ll be given a new smaller IP.Bluepoint – for now they should be tasked to give the Bloodborne IP the comeback it rightfully deserves – it makes 10 this year, the least Sony can do is announce a Remaster/Remake.If Sony wanted to throw the fans a bone here and prove their course adjustment is real they could just announce Days Gone 2.I mean even if it was a smaller game to test the waters for the series, it definitely has a fan base and if the costs were kept in check maybe reusing some assets etc I’m sure it would be a reputation win even if not a big money spinner. Also just get Bluepoint on a Bloodborne remaster. Spin it up, get it done, win over the fans again!@Shinnok789 wow aren’t we on the same page!Hopefully they make Days Gone 2 now loved the first game i know it’s unlikely, but I’d love it to happen. An added layer to the absurdity of this is that their 2nd most recent game is Uncharted Golden Abyss, released in Feb 2012. In the 13 years since they’ve put out exactly one game, and won’t have another until potentially 2030. Madness.@species No that was someone who hasn’t worked there for a few years.McAllister is the Community Manager. He’s a pretty chill dude.Glass half full person – at least they’re still open, according to twitter they have already packed their bags.@species why should that matter anymorei hope $ony let em cookI look forward to playing it on the PS6 🙄@species No that was John Garvin.Nobody important cares for Bend Studios. But Bluepoint is a bummer. All their work in the last decade was fantastic.Bend should have been shut down after the embarrassment that was Days GoneHow about, oh I dunno. Days Gone 2? By all accounts Bend would like a crack at it, there’s a clear fanbase that want it but Sony would rather Bend didn’t make a guaranteed money maker.I’m just glad that the kid from Home Alone can find a job in this economy.I don’t envy their positions. They need to bring some cool ideas as fast as they can if they don’t want to be shut down.I would not be surprised if both teams suffered pretty big layoffs. Sony in their current mood won’t allow 150 devs of Bend to just sit there and wait for new project to ramp up.If the Days Gone remaster is coming soon then Sony should wait to see how it does and see if Bend would consider a sequel, after all they actually didn’t want to do it in the first place due to the fallout with the director.Ok seeing the comment about “Days gone 2” alot,For like the 100th time, Bend have already came out and said they wouldn’t do a sequel, as someone who just finished the game for first time very recently. it’s a 7/10 that’s that, I would much rather they try something completely new (obviously single player).I’m glad Kevin found time in-between thwarting the Wet Bandits after being left alone in the studio to send out a reassuring tweet. They should deliver a Day Gone remaster, increasing the size of some of the hordes, to tide us over. Hopefully that would generate enough interest to get a sequel in the works. Never going to happen I know but it would be good!Hopefully whatever they do next, Days Gone is left dead and buried. One of the worst games I’ve played in the last decade.@get2sammyb It is, but only mildly. Obviously it’s better if they don’t lose their jobs, but from a gamer’s perspective, it’s not by much. The amount of major 1st party titles is already shrinking. Having one of their major developers become a support team (along with another) would be costly in that area.@Oram77 yeah but Bend seems committed to not making a game at all. Maybe they should just make it instead of a live service no one wanted and theyll likely make something else that no one wants in 2031@RagnarLothbrok “Bend seems committed to not making a game at all”. I mean, it’s not really their fault if Sony put them on a live service game. I imagine they are just as annoyed as we are.@get2sammyb Totally agree it absolutely would make sense for a large chunk of their staff to be supporting other studios while a core team goes back to the drawing board and figures out what they are doing next. That is the best way for them to keep their jobs.Surely So y could let Bend work on Days Gone 2.I mean they have the current assets etc from the first game so you’d think a sequel would be a quicker turn around at this point rather than a brand new IP 🤷🏻As much as I love single player experiences (preferably linear ones), there are so many of them and so few good multiplayer ones so still pretty sad@JAMes-BroWWWn this why we can’t have nice things u really want people lose their job u upset about med game that did okReally enjoyed the game, had a lot more fun then i did with Ghost of TsushimaWhy not remaster days gone and then make a 8hr dlc , id buy that , all the bells and whistles and twice as many infected. It’s a good news that they aren’t closed down or got massive lay off. But when PS6 era comes, i hope Hermen isn’t at SIE anymore. All that time wasting bend studio could of release days gone 2.come on zombie dog word up sonBeing selfish, I’d like Bluepoint to work on a glow-up of something I missed from the PS3 generation (when I had a 360), like a Resistance remastered collection, or Infamous 1&2, or something. They did great work on Uncharted Collection.Bend I don’t know well enough, other than from Days Gone (which I enjoyed most in the late-game – there should have been more hordes overall and the pacing needed addressing). I think Sony does need a studio doing more experimental, lower-budget, AA-type things to try and develop new IP and concepts. I dunno if that role would suit Bend.Miniscule of hope for a Days Gone 2 revival? now but most likely an early PS6 new IP. Wouldn’t mind jumping on this rumoured Days Gone PS5 version if its the £10 upgrade thing, hopefully some added extra content for it like way more hordes to take on@StrickenBiged Bend isn’t that type of studio who do AA experimental games. Their portofolio is Syphon Filter series, Uncharted spin off, Resistance spin off, and an open world zombie game.Beside, i think Sony already cover the “AA experimental games” ground with China, India, and MENA Hero Project. They don’t need to make a huge AAA game. Surely there’s a few people with great ideas for smaller games? If they take five years and just make another tired failure of an open world, they aren’t allowed to get pissy about it. I didn’t tell them to do that.Huge mistake not doing Days Gone 2. They probably could have made it with all the money they’ve wasted on the now cancelled Live Service games.@MrSensical Yeah, that’s wild. Although they were setup as a handheld studio so there is context as to why it took so long for them to get ready for Days Gone.@LikelySatan They might do something smaller, yeah!Poor Bend studio has had such a rough time lately. They just can’t seem to catch a break right now. Hopefully they come back stronger than ever.I don’t want to be that guy…. But if I was the people at this studio. I would start putting in applications for other studios. Things aren’t looking great especially if Sony needs to close a studio cause they spent too much money on acquiring Anime production companies.RIP my favorite local studio@cuttlefishjones there was already a rumor nixes was already working on that.@get2sammyb if anything i think they’d be the support for the rumored uncharted ps5 gameDays Gone 2 please, no Days Gone remaster there is little to no need.
The landscape is changing, let’s get with it legacy media. Happy 20th everyone.Cool, just make sure it’s not live service. That’s only if there lucky enough not to be shut down by Sony lol@JAMes-BroWWWn in the extreme minority there bruh. Days gone is liked by many and not getting a sequel is a kick in the stonesBend have released 1 game in 12 years are Sony really going to fund a new project from them for another 5+ years?I think they will shut the studio@Shigurui Bend dont want a crack at it. It was the studio that decided they didn’t want to make a second one and go in the direction they did which has seen their game cancelled. It’s been well documented by Days Gone director that the higher ups at Bend cancelled Days Gone 2 before it was even pitched to Sony. The director has now left Bend.Bend – Days Gone 2Bluepoint – Bloodborne: Remaster#simplesI think they will be cut down and pull some weight for other teams. Let them help cook…Days Gone 2 in a decayed city and surrounding countryside would be fabulous. Take six to eight years to make, mind…I feel they’ll have some job cuts because of Ryan and Hultz decisions to waste billions@JAMes-BroWWWn You’re on crack man, Days Gone was a quality game (by all of us who played it)Anyway, Get together with Housemarque and give us Dead Nation 2 😉👍Maybe they can slip in another job advert for a SIE Worldwide Studios head & co-Ceo position. One that has experience in overseeing successful single & multiplayer AAA gaming. & dev studio management….qualifications the current incumbent seems to be a bit out of his depth on! 🙄The sad part is though two such talented studios having been wasted for effectively an entire console generation with nothing to show for it!yup, as a ps6 launch game. this gen is botched. not that it is bend’s fault or anything.I’m so tired of these types of promises at this point.Bend and Bluepoint’s secret projects had been teased as ‘cool sh*t’ for a long time and then they turned out to be more live service slop that won’t even see the light of day.Between these, Naughty Dog and whatever else we don’t know about, just how many development hours has Sony wasted on their trend-chasing garbage plan? All that talent and passion and they’re stuck working on the most soulless, hopeless projects imaginable.I feel particularly bad about Bluepoint, because they’ve never had a chance to do something big that was truly their own. They finally moved on from their (very solid) remake projects and all they get is a ticket to the God of War live service mines. What a bad joke, I can only imagine how utterly demoralizing that must be for creators.I assume he meant to say PS6?We could’ve got a days gone sequel, but instead we get nothing. Sony makes no money. Dumb all the way around.Just finish Deacon’s story and give the people what they want. Also let Bluepoint work on the PS5 Bloodborne remaster. Both would be profitable and would be a sign of listening to the fans. Sony needs to stop thinking they’re invincibleI would hope so, cause otherwise they will be shut down.
Gogo Syphon filter!I really hope they can get to work on a Days Gone sequel. It was the best zombie game I’ve ever played.Hope they can make the game they want. Live service crap.I only played Days gone as a part of the bundle that Sony “gave away” when you bought a ps5 during its launch. Having missed the whole ps4 gen, this one was probably the game I enjoyed the most. Story from TLOU1 and 2 was better imo, but number one in gameplay for me was Days Gone.I do hope that they make a sequel and not a live service game.Days Gone 2 please. And keep the protagonist, he was the only one with a personality over the last few years.@Grumps859 He’s a white straight male, he has been put in the bin next to Drake, Kratos, Grayson, Joel, Nathan Hale, Cole McGrath and Peter Parker.Oh man, Bend is probably the worst case of mismanagement among PlayStation’s first party. Sony really made an effort to screw these guys.Sure, the competition is stiff with Bungie and Firewalk but, at least with these two, there’s the excuse that Sony bought damaged goods. It’s a shame, because I really think Days Gone was criminally underrated.A worthy studio and with or without a B team/2nd studio or whatever? No clue if they do.I mean being a handheld studio from PSP/Vita then Days Gone besides their PS1/2 games, they seem to have been treated pretty badly here as like oh make this thing instead and if they are a support studio from now on I’d quit too. They are a worthy studio in their own right. Their next project better be worth it though. I don’t care for Days Gone, it’s a good game but fits with the Last of Us and other nonsense I don’t care about so if they focus on games of that type well I already still have no reason to play a PlayStation 5 so keep going Sony, I still refuse to use the ones in my family building I didn’t even buy. Still happy on PS4.Forgetting about them compared to a ND/Insomniac/Sucker Punch or a Guerilla is one thing but treating them like a Guerilla Cambridge or Liverpool with different games they offered then the main ones but still there and yet pushed to the side is just disgusting. As if Primal, 24 The Game, LBP PSP, Rigs, Mark of Kri and more weren’t noteworthy games left behind compared to many other IPs that get further attention.I just don’t understand how it can be so long to decide the game won’t work.Did some game not planned as a live service got pin the LS requirement by Sony late in the development cycle and created some sort of Suicide Squad situation. It’s been years, I can’t believe it was Bend’s coolest project (or so they said) and just now it’s decided it’s not worth pursuing.@trev666 idk where you get that from they’ve only worked on one console game on the ps4, they did some ps1 stuff with syphon filter and then after that they worked on psp and vita games. its more like 5 1/2 years then 12 , the math is really off on that one lol.
