Colin Farrell just took home his first SAG Award. On Sunday night, the actor won best actor in a limited series for his role in Max’s “The Penguin.”
Jamie Lee Curtis presented the award, and when she opened the envelope, she read, “And the Actor goes to… the man who gave me covid at the Golden Globes: Colin Farrell.” Once up on stage, Farrell responded with, “Guilty as charged. But Brendan Gleeson fucking gave it to me! So I was just spreading the love.”
He then complimented the room fill of so many people he admired. “It is weird. So many of you, I grew up watching on television and in film and so many I’ve worked with over the years and shared in the spirit of collaborative curiosity and all the stuff that we fail at doing and we succeed at doing, and none of it is ever quantifiable,” Farrell said. “And that’s the beautiful thing, and the annoying thing, about what we do, it’s just unquantifiable. It’s play time. You don’t get to fully grow up. You get to kind of keep the dream of a child alive, to try to figure out what it is to be human and it’s so much fun.”

He also took a moment to thank his sister, revealing they’ve worked together for 22 years, and others in his family.

“I never thank her publicly, but Claudine Farrell, I haven’t noted that she’s a producer and she’s not my assistant. She’s not my assistant — sister, she’s family, she’s a producer,” he gushed. “My sister Catherine, who’s the first actor in the family and showed me that that was a possibility to pursue that passion. My brother Eamon, who texted me last night that Netflix is showing this live and he’s staying up in his pajamas to watch it. Eamon, I love you. Catherine, I love you. My mom, Rita, my dad, Eamon, and the two people in my life who have made my life so much more special and so much more meaningful, so much more joyful than I ever truly thought possible: my son James and son Henry.”
Farrell’s win comes on the heels of his Golden Globe win for the titular role, and both Farrell and co-star Cristin Milioti took home Critics’ Choice Awards for their roles.
Following his Globes win, Farrell was asked about joining Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix, who previously portrayed DC villain Joker in “The Dark Knight” and “Joker,” respectively.
“You mentioned two actors who are, I think, for my money, two of the most extraordinarily talented and gifted and just brilliant artists in films that I’ve ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by,” he said in the press room at the time. “What Heath did in Chris Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ was extraordinary, and will will live on for future generations. And what [Phoenix] did with the Joker was as exemplified by all the awards that he won, in the Oscars. It was extraordinary.”
Farrell was nominated alongside Javier Bardem for “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” Kevin Kline for “Disclaimer,” Andrew Scott for “Ripley” and Richard Gadd for “Baby Reindeer.”
