Charli XCX had entered the evening leading the nominations with five, while Dua Lipa, The Last Dinner Party and Ezra Collective received four nominations each.

Inside the 2025 Brit Awards: Sabrina Carpenter Shocks, Millie Bobby Brown Gushes, Tender Liam Payne Tribute Leaves Arena Still

Hosting the ceremony was Jack Whitehall, who met Squid Game Soldiers, aka Triangles, in a video intro and joked about being a Taylor Swift fan.
Late in the show, Whitehall struck a much more somber note when he introduced a special video tribute to Liam Payne. He called the late One Direction star “a very special person who meant so much to so many of the people in this room and to millions of you around the world,” adding: “Last October, we woke to the devastating news that Liam Payne had tragically passed away. He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this Earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician, but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with.”
The biggest night in British music kicked off with music and many cheers on Saturday as Sabrina Carpenter received a big London welcome on the stage in her Brit Awards debut.
Lenny Kravitz handed the first honor of the night to Charli XCX for her hit “Guess,” featuring Billie Eilish. Soon after, she also won the best dance act award. “I feel like dance music, electronic music gets a really bad rep because everyone is like ‘it’s not that deep’,” the star said in accepting the award. “And I kind of feel it is. This genre of music for me is euphoric. It allows me to escape and feel on such a deep level.”
At the end of the night, Charli XCX was back on stage to pick up the British artist of the year honor and the previously unveiled songwriter of the year award, followed by the album of the year honor for Brat, sending her home with a total of five statuettes.
Chappell Roan was also a big winner of the night, being honored with the best international song and international artist of the year awards. She wasn’t at the O2 Arena but accepted her honors via video messages.

“I don’t believe in bad art, but let’s just say I had to write a lot of bad songs to get to the good ones,” she shared in the first. “Artists deserve that freedom to write bad songs and to explore horrible concepts. … So we must continue to support these artists so they can find success on their own terms and have long careers.”
In her second acceptance video, Roan said: “I dedicate this to trans artists, to drag queens, to fashion students, sex workers, and Sinéad O’Connor. Because all those people … have laid the groundwork for me to be here today. I did not give up because of them, and I will continue going because of them.”
Also during the Saturday night ceremony, London-based jazz group Ezra Collective won the Brit for best British group, while The Last Dinner Party received the best new artist honor.
And Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown introduced to the stage the previously unveiled Global Success Award winner, Sabrina Carpenter, after a video message from Diana Ross. “What I love most about her is that she’s always herself – bold, unapologetic, and outrageously talented,” Brown said.
Meanwhile, Stormzy won his fourth Brit on Saturday, receiving the trophy in the best hip hop/grime/rap act category.
The Beatles were also among the nominees, namely for song of the year with their “final song” “Now and Then.” It was their first nomination since 1983 where they were celebrated at the Brit Awards with the Outstanding Contribution to Music honor.

The Cure was also up for the band’s first Brit Award since 1993, receiving three nominations thanks to Songs of a Lost World, their first album in 16 years, but the legends didn’t win a Brit on Saturday..@teddyswims makes an entrance at the 2025 #BRITs in London pic.twitter.com/o6RyIlqm8Q
Among Saturday’s on-stage performers were also the likes of Teddy Swims, Jade, The Last Dinner Party, Myles Smith, Sam Fender, Lola Young, and Ezra Collective with special guest Jorja Smith.
There were also some political moments during the Brits ceremony, with several winners calling for the continued support of grassroots and independent music venues, many of which have either had to shut down or faced significant financial challenges.
