He was 92.The author, best known for work like “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” and “Jitterbug Perfume,” died Sunday at his home in Washington.His wife, Alexa Robbins, took to Facebook Sunday to confirm Robbins’ death although she did not reveal a specific cause.“My beloved Tom peacefully passed away. He was surrounded by his family and loyal pets. Throughout these difficult last chapters, he was brave, funny and sweet. Tom was cared for by his loved ones, devoted caregivers and Hospice of the Northwest,” she wrote.Tom Robbins

He was surrounded by his family and loyal pets….Robbins grew popular for his novels which featured bizarre characters, metaphors and counterculture humor.The North Carolina native worked as a newspaper editor, reporter and critic in Virginia and Seattle, where he moved in the ‘60s for a change of scenery.In his 2014 memoir “Tibetan Peach Pie,” he credited his unconventional style of writing to taking the psychedelic LSD in 1964.Robbins wrote eight novels throughout his career that spanned more than five decades. He release his first novel, “Another Roadside Attraction,” in 1971 and his final, “Villa Incognito,” in 2003.His 1976 novel “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues,” sold millions of copies and was adapted into a movie by Gus Van Sant in 1993.“I’m grateful I had such a magnificent husband. I’ll miss him forever. Tom was the best friend and partner I could have asked for,” his wife shared. “We shared 36 beautiful and adventurous years together.
