Apple’s Custom 5G Modem Chip Inside The iPhone SE 4 Will Deliver Worse Performance Than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 Chip In The iPhone 16 Lineup – Wccftech

Apple is slated to launch its budget iPhone with Apple Intelligence functionality on Wednesday, and it was reported that the company is expecting high returns from the device. The company will make various changes to the SE lineup, including a bigger display and a design similar to that of the higher-end variants. However, the device will also boast upgraded internals, which will be the highlight of the upgrade. Apple is expected to equip the device with its first in-house modem, but based on recent reports, it will have worse performance than Qualcomm’s modem.Apple and Qualcomm go way back, as the chip-maker has been responsible for providing Apple with customized modems for the iPhone. Apple is now seeking independence from the partnership as it has been working on its custom modems for almost 7 years. The iPhone SE 4 will be the first device to get Apple’s custom modem, and once the company makes progress, it will trickle down to the rest of the lineup. We can safely presume that the device will also act as a testing ground for Apple and will only improve in the coming years. The iPhone 16 lineup comes with Qualcomm-made modems that deliver top-of-the-line performance. A new report from Korea indicates that Apple’s in-house modem will not perform on par with Qualcomm chips. While there are no tests available at this stage, it is a no-brainer that Apple’s custom modem will not perform on the level of the Qualcomm X75 5G modem, but we can be sure that Apple will make improvements in the coming years, the same way it did with the M-series of chips. Apple’s initial 5G modem is speculated to lack support for mmWave 5G and could offer fewer carrier aggregation features. This will result in slower upload and download speeds compared to Snapdragon’s X75 modem. The iPhone SE 4 will be a catch if Apple plays its cards right. What this means is that the company has made very few compromises with the device, as it will finally feature an OLED display, an A18 chip for top-notch performance, Apple Intelligence, and an upgraded design. As for the compromises, we can count them on our fingers, which include a single-lens camera, Apple’s custom modem, a notch instead of Dynamic Island, and that is all. It remains to be seen if the iPhone SE 4 will come with an Action Button, and if it does, it could give the standard models a tough competition.Prominent industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone SE 4 will sell well due to the improvements it will bring over the previous version. Coupled with 8GB, which opens the door to Apple Intelligence, the SE 4 will definitely be a strong device against the budget competition. As mentioned, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be announced on Wednesday, and we will be covering the launch extensively. Some posts on wccftech.com may contain affiliate links.
