There’s another iPhone software update coming, as soon as this month. Here’s everything you need to know about the next release, called iOS 18.3, when it’s coming and what will be in it.Apple iOS 18.3 is almost here for iPhone 16 series and others.Since the arrival of Apple Intelligence earlier in iOS 18 has generated a lot of interest, the next big update should have more AI goodies, right? Actually, no. Apple iOS 18.3 will have plenty that’s new, but the next release is about other things. We can expect more Apple Intelligence improvements in iOS 18.4, due later in the spring, but for now, Apple has other priorities.To be exact, there is one Apple Intelligence change, but it’s more in the way of a cancellation than an innovation.As reported a few days ago, Apple has been having problems with some notification summaries generated by Apple Intelligence—read full details here. Essentially, some summaries were incorrect, and the news organizations whose bulletins were wrongly summarized weren’t happy.As a result, in iOS 18.3, Apple is suspending two specific kinds of summaries: “Notification summaries for the News & Entertainment category will be temporarily unavailable. We are working on improvements and will make them available in a future software update.”Additionally, in the Settings app, the Notifications Summaries section will now have clarification that this is a feature that’s in beta (meaning mistakes are likely to happen).And during setup, Apple will add a warning which reads “Summarization may change the meaning of the original headlines. Double check important information.” The summaries will appear in italics. Users will also be able to disable summaries in each app directly from the lock screen.This new slider/button combo on iPhone 16 series will rename the AE/AF lock toggle to Lock Focus and Exposure (which is much clearer).If you crop content when editing a PDF, Apple will now warn users that the cropped area is not removed from the PDF.Messages will add a Genmoji entry to the + button, so it’s easier to create your own personalized emoji.Apple likes to release its software updates on a Monday or Tuesday if it can. So, if this month remains the most likely for the release of the software—and I think it does—that leaves only two options: Monday, Jan. 27 or Tuesday, Jan. 28.I believe Tuesday, Jan. 28 will be the release date.One Community.
