Animated Comedy ‘Dog Man’ Looking To Be Top Dog At Weekend Box Office – Forbes

Variety projects that Dog Man will earn $36 million from 3,885 North American theaters in its first Friday-Sunday frame. Combined with a $4.2 million in international ticket sales, the film’s worldwide tally in its first weekend is expected to end up north of $40 million.Variety reported that Dog Man had a production budget of $40 million before prints and advertising. The voice cast of Dog Man also includes Isla Fisher, Poppi Liu, Billy Boyd and Stephen Root, while writer-director Peter Hastings provides the voice of the title character.The trade publication projects that the weekend’s other new wide release—Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher’s horror thriller Companion—will debut at No. 2 at the weekend box office with $9.5 million from 3,285 theaters. Along with a projected $5.5 million in international ticket sales, Variety reported, Companion will end its first weekend with a worldwide tally of $15 million.Written and directed by Drew Hancock, The New Line Cinema release had a $10 million budget before P&A, Variety reported.Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher in “Companion.”Variety projects that Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King will earn $7 million from 3,180 North American theaters this weekend. If the estimate holds, it will boost the live-action and animated hybrid’s running domestic tally to $230.4 million by Sunday. Combined with the film’s international take, Variety reported that Mufasa’s running international take is $653 million.Sony Pictures Entertainment projects that its comedy One of Them Days will earn $6 million from 2,306 venues this weekend. If the projection holds, it will boost the domestic tally of Keke Palmer and SZA’s film to $34.5 million.
