Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign Up”What a mess”Since taking office in January, the Trump administration has implemented a range of tariffs on goods being imported into the country. The introductions, which came into effect yesterday, include a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and a 20% tariff on goods from China (an additional 10% on what was initially implemented on 4th February), both of which have the potential to result in a price hike for consoles and accessories and, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, could bring about the death of select physical game sales.Despite many companies, including Nintendo, Apple and Microsoft, starting to shift their production out of China in the last decade, the country remains a central hub for global hardware production. The same can be said for Mexico and disc production. The U.S. tariffs, therefore, threaten to increase production costs for developers and publishers, something Piscatella believes may lead to select companies dropping physical releases completely.”It wouldn’t surprise me to see physical games that would be subject to tariffs simply not get made,” Piscatella stated in a recent BlueSky post, “with pubs moving to an all-digital strategy”. While the analyst admitted that production costs are a “Very small piece” of the current political climate, he described the whole situation as “a mess”.Very small piece of all this, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see physical games that would be subject to tariffs simply not get made, with pubs moving to an all digital strategy.

What a mess.In a press conference last month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the company was “predicting various geopolitical risks and establishing ways to respond” to the recently imposed tariffs. With production sites already in Vietnam and Cambodia, Furukawa stated that he was expecting the tariffs’ impact to be “minimal” on Nintendo’s yearly financial results, though he made clear that he anticipates “a certain impact”.As a reminder, similar tariffs threatened increased production costs to the video game industry back in 2019, though a joint letter from Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft convinced the then-administration to allow exemptions. No such display of unity appears to have happened time, with game companies undoubtedly bracing to feel the impact of the new tariffs.Expects minimal financial impactUnited as oneWe’ll be keeping an eye out for more news on the new US tariffs and their effect on the gaming industry and will let you know if we hear any updates.[source bsky.app]About Jim NormanJim came to Nintendo Life in 2022 and, despite his insistence that The Minish Cap is the best Zelda game and his unwavering love for the Star Wars prequels (yes, really), he has continued to write news and features on the site ever since.Comments 167It hasn’t even been two months and I am so tired of this presidency already…I’m not American people but why Donald Trump applied the tariff rules?America isn’t the whole world. I don’t see why these tariffs should affect games sold in other countries.@Anti-Matter Because he can. That’s it.This comment section is going to be a flame war to end all flame wars… 😬I think the cost of most things in the US are about to go up.@Anti-Matter If I told you, you would wash out your eyes, trying to eradicate the forbidden knowledge of dark government secrets before the CIA finds you.Actually, I think our federal agencies got new heads, so, nevermind, you’re fine.Yeah he implemented that 25% tariff on Canada, too. Which we responded with tariffs of our own, and a lot of businesses are refusing to stock American products outright. It’s a bit of a mess. As long as it’s just American game prices that are affected, I’m good. But we’ll see.Honestly, we did this to ourselves. In fact, we’ve BEEN doing it to ourselves even before videogames were even a thing, thanks to dogwater government policies in the 60s, 70s, and beyond. In order to heal, our nation needs to suffer.@Anti-Matter he thinks the tariffs applied to exported US goods is disproportionate to the tariffs the US applies to imported goods and wants to increase manufacturing at home.In essence, a tariff is a border tax paid by importers to the government.@RainbowGazelle USA is the biggest market. Publishers may offset loses there in global sales strategies elsewhere.I could see this happening. Yes, the tariffs primarily affect us in the USA, whereas the rest of the world could continue on blissfully free of of the ramifications of our self-inflicted doom. But as physical media in general continues to be pivoted away from by companies who see an endless gold mine in making us pay for digital content multiple times via various streaming/subscription services, the US trade war seems like the perfect excuse for them to cut off production of physical games altogether with the cherry on top of being able to pass the blame onto someone else, ie the government.I’m very tired already.@Anti-Matter Because he’s Putin’s puppet.@Maulbert sad but trueRemoved – inappropriateIf Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft united to prevent these tariffs again, would it have still worked this time?@Zeebor15 you ok bro?soon sony and xbox will be all digital time for nintendo to join the trend..america gets ripped off by the whole world in terms of trade imbalance especially china and mexico..china has a 295 billion surplus with the us and mexico has a 172 billion surplus they are ripping the us off..I noticed yesterday that games on the Mexican eShop went up. Nothing too drastic, $60 games they went back to the usual 1,400 Mexican Pesos. Thankfully it wasn’t to the costs during the pandemic, where a single game could cost 1,700 Pesos.I haven’t checked places like Amazon Mexico or GamePlanet.EDIT: Amazon prices seem to be the same as before the tarrifs.@MrCarlos46 not sure what you mean or if you’re serious but, corporations don’t get a say in tariffs implemented by their respective governments. All they can do is pass the extra cost onto the consumers which is the expected result.Edit: they can technically protest and yell to not do it but that’s it.@MrCarlos46 I really doubt it. Last time the government was mostly run by Republican elites and businesspeople. This time it’s all incompetent loyalists.I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they did unite again to ask for an exemption this time and were either rebuffed or ignored.@MegaMari0 Like back in 2019 when they wrote a letter to ask for an exemption for video games from the tariffs.@johnedwin This makes no sense. A trade imbalance just means that we import more from them than they do from us, or vice versa. But you understand that we’re not literally trading one good for another, right? When they buy from us or we buy from them, there’s money exchanged. Just because there’s an “imbalance” there doesn’t mean anybody is getting ripped off.@LastFootnote The government might not care this time and tell them to just deal with the prices.Computer games have already done this, but Switch 2 has a cartridge slot so we shouldn’t have to worry for Nintendo for the next 6-7 years.Again, NintendoLife should report on things but have their comments closed. I never really believe these ‘analyst’ articles, we already went through this before.@MrCarlos46 That is basically what I said, yes.@LastFootnote Switch cartridges (and maybe Switch 2 cartridges as well) are produced in Japan, so those won’t be affected unless Trump ends up adding tariffs for products from Japan.Hoooooo boy. A politically charged comment section. This will end well.@Tyranexx Yuuup!IGN have published the same article. The comments are getting salty over there.Stay safe out there on the internet people 😀@Tyranexx I will have to agree. Ignorance and/or insults will be present soon if not already.@Anti-Matter To make prices go down in country so he and his rich friends can buy everything they want to make it another gilded age for them. Not to mention trying to annex other countries for resources since he idolizes Putin, and I’m speaking as a Canadian here fighting back against Cheetolini.@Duncanballs I think IGN has some sort of connection to NL so it’s probably being posted on all of their websites.I think both websites should close their comment sections, we know how people can be when it comes to heated topics like this@johnedwin the reason for the trade imbalance is that importing goods is often cheaper than producing them in the US. By increasing tariffs, foreign goods will become more expensive in the US. Where is the rip off?@Anti-Matterbecause his knowledge of economy apperently is that of a king in the 16th century …@Splash_Womanthey might just raise prices for everyone to combat a smaller earning, but who knows, in any cases nobody wins a trade war, and its gonna be more tuff on americans because the rest of the countries still trade with eachotherSwitch 2 may launch this Summer just as the bite from the tariffs sinks in, but we may not know how badly until then. This is just more analyst speculation. In the meantime, I’d worry about this affecting way more than just electronics.I remember way back my Nintendo 64 console said made in Japan Was that the last console actually made in Japan ?@Neckcrane NEVER AMI’m not completely against digital, my Switch library is about one-third digital the last time I checked. But all my digital games are small indie titles for the most part. If there’s a physical version available, I always opt for that. But if there’s future is all-digital, count me out.Weren’t GameCube and for the first few years Wii discs were made in USA? What happened? Also, Nintendo Switch carts are made in Japan and so far Japanese imports haven’t been hit with tariffs.Well if the people didn’t want this then they shouldn’t have voted for Trump, it’s that simple.Publishers were already phasing out physical games at a rapid pace, to cut cost and sell us a distribution model that favors them, not customers.
On top of that I imagined Herr Trump and Herr Elon’s agenda would have negative impacts on console and physical game prices, just like on most other aspects of life for us non-billionaires.But as they say, vote for a clown, expect a circus.*You have to realize that the economy is a carefully balanced system and once there is a disproportionate loss of currency, there needs to be efforts made to stabilize the remaining revenue streams. And if you trace this back to the begenning of where this all started, then it’s clear to see that the blame solely lies with MyNintendo discontinuing the Gold Coins reward system. Bring back the gold coin discounts, or this will only get worse. WW3 is not off the table.@Duncanballs I got here hoping to see some good mudslinging and crazy talk from all sides….way to disappoint us NLife, what is this, GoNintendo? Now I need to go to IGN to see gamers going for each other troaths depending on their political view.Whoah the comments aren’t closed on this? Bold NL.@DK_Dude333I can’t take your comment seriously for multiple reasons, but saying Kamala has a “5 iq” when Trump can barely string together a sentence or use words with more than four syllables, is the biggest one.And I’d rather deal with Kamala and her cackling than an orange , bottle-tan fascist.@TasukiI voted against him three times.@tabris95 As long as people can be civil what’s the problem? Tariffs suck. They cause the prices of everyday products and foods to increase. 95% of the population that aren’t billionaires can agree with that. It’s not even about politics at that point. You know, I remember in the 90s, some late SNES releases such as Tetris Attack and Kirby Super Star said on the cartridges “Made in Mexico”.I’m not the brightest mind for economics, as proven by Fortune Street, but I wonder if Switch games were made here, would that make them cheaper here at the cost of making them more expensive for the US?For Nintendo and Sony at least, they won’t quit physical. Japan is still the largest market and physical copies still sell the most there. It’s so annoying when a narrative is forced to try to get them to go a certain direction. I feel like these guys almost want them to go digital only. That being said, these tariffs absolutely will not age well, they never do. I may just be buying stuff from the Japanese Eshop at this rate…@Tasuki Exactly.Honestly if I spend more than $60-70 on one game, I’m going to riot. $60 is more than enough to spend on these days.🍊 traitor is a fascist, weakening the global position of the US, has sold out the entire federal government to oligarchs and unelected bureaucrats, dismantling vital services most of the country relies on, has skyrocketed corruption, and is threatening war with Greenland, Panama, Canada and others, and that’s on top of the tarrifs.
A revolution must happen. This is untenable. A complete, utter betrayal to allies and to the people. And as for him, life imprisonment is deserved. 🔥@daveMcFlave As a Canadian looking in, thank you for your voter service. 🫡 I will be voting for the Federal Liberals in our Fall 2025 elections.
“PeePee” as we call the CON leader up here is one giant “maple maga” phoney.Removed – inappropriateThis never would happened if we had finally elected Ace Watkins. My two cents is let’s just wait and see what happens, he don’t have a crystal ball, i rather wait for see actual proof before we start getting all angry at the publishersAll the more reason that things will push for digital. I’d like physical forever, but thems the breaks.@Yomerodes it’s definitely a popcorn thread over there. The EU releases might be untouched, so I am fine, but the US market might see more digital releases. We in the EU have more serious problems than more expensive games so …. @JimNorman I’m surprised comments are open on this one. We got people arguing already.Eh. I am going all digital with S2 so as long as the digital games don’t get a “just because we can” bump, I am good. It is what it is. Let the people enjoy their vote. WINNING!Removed – inappropriateEvery single Nintendo switch, DS, and 3DS game I have ever bought says “Made in Japan” on the label. If people weren’t so obsessed with killing the game industry with buying digital games, they would actually have game boxes of their own to look at and clearly see they are made in Japan.@ENGENETEN No I think the majority are standing proud knowing that they are the better person than Trump.I consider myself successful, not just in my career but who I am as a person. I’m not leftist. I make up my own mind rather than relying on the media. My life is not mundane. I know how the world works but ultimately, I think Trump is a tw*t.Make The World Great Again@johnedwin a surplus is not a ripoff. It means that you as a country have more money to spend and are therefore buying more.@ENGENETEN so, the policies that made usa a successful country have to change to policies that make the richest people even richer and that push allies away?Tell me how that makes USA great again. It at least changes USA from the shining city on the hill to a dogfight den.Thank God I stopped buying physical games.@ENGENETEN do you have a source for the number of gamers being leftist? Just curious@EVIL-C yeah, we’re seeing order 66 of USA on full display towards Ukraine already. It’s become a country that will never be trusted on their promises ever again. The 5 eyes will soon be 4 eyes. There are already shifts there too.@HammerGalladeBro All I know is that ET was buried in the Mexican desert in 1983. Not sure that the Mexican government levied tariffs on those imports for landfill ?!?@DK_Dude333well i’m not american so i don’t care about who you want for your president, but i can’t see how you’re much better off with trump, you can’t fight a trade war with everyone, it’s gonna backfire, Canada, Mexico and China are targeting their counter tarifs at republican states to hurt trump the most, and i can garentee you that EU will do the same, it’s all cold politics…but in the end you and me, we don’t need to agree on anything , it’s not about a person or a party, it’s about how free trade makes prices go down for all of us, while tarrifs is just an added tax for everyone… and that sucks!@silberbauer15 also, you know that these tariff incomes aren’t going to be well spend by the new government. They’re going to be spend to lower taxes for the rich. Making them even more rich.Physical Media is on life support across the board. More and more retailers are moving away from it, and so its not so much a matter of if, but when it will be digital only. Movies and Music at this stage are mostly digital with physical being more of a niche commodity. One or two more generations and physical Media will be no more with gaming. This is a hard pill to swallow but really there are greater problems in the world. We’ll just have to endure and get through this and hopefully learn from it.Comment section ended up as expected when articles remotely get into politics.@ScalenePowers I’m not about to let an Ace Watkins reference sneak by me undetected. Great job 🫡@Zuljaras Yes, I wish the game prices were the biggest problem here Considering the news just announced that Lindt will now supply Canada 100% with their products from Europe so they completely bypass the tariffs, I’ll probably be visiting PlayAsia more often to get certain games.(Also yay! European chocolate is far superior to American)These times i love to say: how much do i love being european…@Anti-Matter He literally doesn’t know what they are, or is trying to destroy the countryTake your pickTo be honest, we just have to wait and see, and if you don’t like what’s happening, take that energy towards the publishersRemoved – flaming/arguingI voted for Trump. I’m happy with what he’s already accomplished domestically in just the past month. Slowed illegal border traffic. Uncovered loads of government waste. Empowering women in sports. Media transparency and opening up press conferences to the broader public. Ensuring that a white guy like me from the underprivileged region of Appalachia still has a fair shot at landing a decent job and getting a good education. I’m hopeful that RFK will be able to get the harmful dyes and chemicals out of our food that are banned in virtually every other country; this should be a bi-partisan agreement.Internationally, I have my concerns. I’m no economist–I’m not gonna pretend like I understand the complexities of tariffs. I don’t want to see burned bridges with our allies, but at the same time, I do think the previous administration projected an heir of weakness that enabled other countries to take advantage of us. It’s a fine balance of being firm yet gentle to be respected on a global scale.I want the war in Ukraine to end and the bloodshed to stop. Same with Gaza. I think some of Trump’s comments toward Zelensky were out of line, but at the same time, we seem to be on the verge of a peace agreement. If the election had gone a different way, I imagine this war would have dragged on for much, much longer with countless more Ukranian lives lost and billions more in government spending.Hardly any of these comments have been deleted, so I hope mine will stay despite having a dissenting opinion. (Combatting censorship was another major reason I voted for Trump, by the way.) I’m not trying to argue or pick fights with anybody. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. If we don’t have an open dialogue, things will never change, and we remain divided forever. So, for the sake of unity, I hope Nintendo Life won’t delete this. Yes, I voted MAGA; if you think that makes me a horrible person, you’re free to block me, but I think that’s counter-intuitive. Before you do, here’s some things you need to understand about me:If you voted for Kamala, I love you and am glad you exercised your democratic right. If you’re trans, I empathize with your struggles and don’t want to be your enemy; I have crippling OCD, so I take mental health very seriously. If you’re black, your life matters to me. If you’re gay, I won’t lie to you that I believe in traditional marriage because of my religious beliefs, but I have no desire to see legislation passed that infringes on your right to marry because that’s ultimately your prerogative. If you’re Hispanic, I hope we’re able to streamline the immigration process but without compromising on security, so you and your family can live the American dream more quickly.I wasn’t a fan of Kamala, but one thing she echoed constantly throughout the campaign trail is that the American people have more things in common than what separates us. I agree with her on that, but you wouldn’t know it thanks to internet echo chambers that only elevate one opinion. This is why dialogue is SO important, and I think it’s evident I’m not trying to be provocative, so I’ll be really disappointed if Nintendo Life deletes this comment when most of the others still stand. I’m begging you to please not delete this.God bless, everybody. ❤️@Zuljaras Quick, someone tell Capcom!I don’t know how this really all works, but I wonder if big retailers like Walmart and Amazon would have anything to say. They may be too rich to care one way or the other. Maybe they can afford to pay the added costs themselves.@Not_Soos I appreciate your civility. If I may make one plea to you, it’s that you stop watching Fox News and other right-wing media. Or at the very least, start also getting your news from another source that isn’t a propaganda network. That is not hyperbole. Fox News is the media arm of the Republican party, and they have been extremely successful at warping the worldview of many Americans, perhaps a majority. If you are only getting your information from right-wing sources, you have an extremely inaccurate view of what’s going on.The administration has not uncovered “loads of government waste”. What they have been doing is slashing federal jobs fairly indiscriminately. I’m guessing you have a perception that government is fraught with waste due to the right wing beating that drum for decades, but with some exceptions (the Pentagon), it’s not actually true. Most of the government has been “doing more with less” for ages, and slashing these departments further just hurts their ability to keep the American people safe, healthy, and prosperous. There is certainly government corruption in Washington that should be curtailed, but Elon Musk is not going after that waste. The “waste” that DOGE is cutting is your livelihood, America’s standing in the world, and the ability of our children to receive a quality education, among other things.(And as a side note, destroying USAID may save us a very small amount of money in the short run, but it almost completely eliminated America’s soft power on the world stage and drastically weakens our ability to detect and stop disease before it gets to our shores. China is now stepping in to fill that power gap; they will soon be the de facto global superpower thanks to this decision.)Those savings numbers coming out of DOGE are 1) wildly inaccurate; instead of the 15 billion in claimed savings, it’s closer to 2.5 billion, 2) targeted toward government departments we really should not be cutting, and 3) are a tiny drop in the bucket when it comes to government spending. Large cuts to Medicaid will be necessary in order for Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations to be renewed.Yes, let’s remove harmful food additives that are banned elsewhere. On that we can agree. But RFK’s vaccine skepticism is already hurting America’s ability to prevent and fight disease. He didn’t send a team to deal with that measles outbreak in Texas that already killed one child (the first USA measles death in 10 years) and cancelled a meeting about which flu strains should be in this year’s flu vaccine. America will be a much more disease-ridden country with him in charge and it won’t take very long to see the difference.Trump is definitely for “stopping the bloodshed” in Ukraine. He is doing so by giving Putin everything he wants. Russia, the country that unilaterally started the war, will be gaining territory AND assurances that what’s left of Ukraine will never join NATO. This will embolden Russia to bully and attack its other neighbors. How is us abandoning an ally to help an enemy “firm but gentle”?Switch 2 will still have Physical games. I don’t see this as canceling physical games for the console at least.@Not_Soos Your civility is excellent and appreciated, but dang, you really eat up the right-wing propaganda.Let’s see…. Do I want to pay an extra 20% to play a game or instead, pay $25 a day for lunch… all games are going digital anyway = no tariffI’m genuinely surprised that the comments haven’t been disabled yet. This country is cooked and we’re only two months into this presidencypeople somehow ignore all the tariffs and VATs, other countries put on goods but when America goes to even the deal all the Trump hate explodes.@LastFootnote Where to go. Left wing news places is all propaganda too in there different ways.If you listen to certain left wing media on their takes with the right wing media, they play with your sadness/fear emotion a lot of the times. The way they talk makes you fear the right wing media. They pick out like a couple of things that the right wing media says and warp it into emotional fear. All this fear will lead to unnecessary conflict. If you are just watching only one side only, it’s just going to be a huge misunderstanding, and divide people. So it’s best to compare the two.For me I rather listen to someone who talks about both positives and negatives on both sides rather only negatives on this side only, and positive on this side only, because one side isn’t going to be positive all the time. Governments from any party will make their mistakes.@ChakraStomps I would like to learn more about the tariffs that Canada and Mexico had on US goods. Do you have a link to some specifics?@LastFootnote No, fox news is the arm of NeoCons. Did you see them kick out Tucker even though he got the highest ratings? All legacy media is trash with an agenda. Best to digest events as directly as you can without any middlemen when possible.Slapping 25% on top of $70 games would be extortionate…much like their foreign policy…@ChakraStomps Wait, so you have first-hand experience with these tariffs on US goods? Is that what you mean? You seemed very sure that they existed and that the current administration is just evening the playing field. You got that info from somewhere, right?@LastFootnote the internet is flooded now current sabre rattling but certain things get protected for various reasons. Like dairy has a 7% tariff but jumps to 270% after a certain amount to avoid flooding their market and to protect their farmers. That goes on everywhere like many countries blame China for over producing solar panels and dumping the everywhere so no one else can compete. Same with cars, steel, corn. Trump is using it as a tactic for other things as well to try to get their help with border patrols, drug trafficking. It is suppose to be overboard to get a reaction and can get turned off or lessened depending on deals. Basically America is headed to bankrupt and this is a method to balance trade budgets and also incentives to build more in America like Taiwan chip manufacturing building plants in America and even Volkswagon building their new Scout brand in south carolina. But news is always going make everything sound like kindergarten yellingThe majority of the USA says we are fine with this.As if these companies weren’t already trying to move to digital so that there is no ownership! What games are actually made in Mexico. Is it Xbox and PlayStation? In Europe, PlayStation games are made in Austria, not Mexico. No idea about Xbox games because I’ve never owned one.I’m not sure about Switch games. All I see on the case is ‘made in Japan’, so are they produced in Japan? It even says this on western developed games so it isn’t referring to the developers or publishers. If they are, then I suspect Switch games for America are made in Japan too.In other words, which physical games are actually impacted by these new tariffs?Removed – off-topic@GravyThief many xbox games are made in Mexico. I only have a few ps5 physical games so I would have to dig out a box and check. I don’t keep my switch boxes on hand but I believe I have seen some of the 3rd party games made in Mexico. I would suspect that games that have English and French on the cover (still happens with US games) are made in Canada but I would have to get my boxes out of storage to check. So based on my anecdotal experience I would say there is potential for impact.Edit: most of my PS5 games are made in Austria. The last 5 switch games I bought were made in Japan (I still think a few were made elsewhere but I am not digging out 500 games to figure that out). And my last 5 xbox games were made in Mexico.Removed – off-topic@ChakraStompsI don’t really understand the term “neocon,” can you break it down for me? I know the “con” is short for “Conservatives” and it’s meant in a derogatory way. What makes it different from the term “RINO,” or are they pretty much synonomous?Personally, I’ve never liked Tucker Carlson. I think he’s the Right-wing equivalent of Don Lemon, and I was glad to see their respective networks let them go at the same time.@batmanbud2 “In order to heal, our nation needs to suffer.”1) Man, that’s not helping beat the “cult” allegations…2) No one who was foolish enough to vote for the man was signing on to take on MORE economic burden for an undisclosed period of time and no tangible goal. This reeks of trying to move the goal post.@DTFaux oh, I’m aware of that. Problem is, I don’t we would’ve been much better off with Kamala. People voted for Trump because they were tired of the mess that was the Biden administration. This isn’t even the first time this has happened in our country (look up the presidencies of Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan).@EVIL-CIt was the least we could do. Oh yeah, I’ve seen a few videos of that Pierre guy. I really hope ya’ll don’t end up with anything like we have right now. That would be depression on top of depression.Removed – off-topicThe tariff thing is beyond stupid. Consumers have to eat the cost. That’s just how it works. Try explaining that to America’s president. I don’t think he can explain tariffs, let alone spell tariff@sleepinglion i think he can easily explain it, but he’s evil and wants to make his rich friends richer via tax cuts and for that he needs money from the rest of the population.@batmanbud2 what was the mess under biden?Did he break up 80 year old alliances? Cause thousands of deaths via cutting usaid? Backstabbed an ally in war? Please tell me what was so bad about a president?@Not_Soos trump is a putin puppet, recruited by the kgb for 40 years already. Not just the last few weeks.https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/19/trump-first-moscow-trip-215842/Also, remember what his first impeachment process was for.I am absolutely astonished that there are Americans still so oblivious to what is happening inside their country right now. A clear grasp for absolute and unchallenged power.@batmanbud2 I really don’t want this thread on a video game site to go more off the rails than it already has, but for a nation to re-elect a convicted fraudster and known con man (among so much else) in the hopes of economic prosperity is the worst indictment of the electorate. And to justify it with the hypothetical and intellectually lazy “As if the other guys would’ve been better!” argument is either grossly misinformed or huffing the purest, distilled copium.I’ve heard and seen all kinds of perspectives and opinions in my near-18 years of being politically conscious. And in all that time, I’ve NEVER seen so many individuals bend over backwards and turn on a dime to defend ONE MAN (who’s so transparently self-serving) over actions, rhetoric, and policies no other living politician, much less person, could ever get away with. It’s such an insane chapter in history, and terrifying that so many cant (or refuse to) see it…@MARl0 Good. People should be outraged over this crap. We cannot capitulate to fascism@Not_Soos Independent ❌, Thinly veiled conservative ✅@DTFaux the mere fact that you still consider him a “convicted” felon (the jury that convicted him was literally made up of “yes” men) tells me I don’t need to say anything other than “have fun lasting in this country for the next four years.”Also, kudos to the NL team for keeping this comment section open so far, despite the predictable outcome of some of the comments. I feel like it’s more important than ever for people to be able to engage in [socio]political discourse; especially when it pertains to the hobbies and interests that we collectively enjoy. That said, I can’t blame any mod for hitting the Eject button if things start to go a bit too off the rails.@Scposteel And yet Criterion, Severin, Vinegar Syndrome, & Kino Lorber (among others) are still releasing films on Blu-ray & 4K. So I don’t know what non-sense you’re going on about. Me thinks you oughta to take a closer look at things. Thanks, Trump.@Edwirichuu Why try to force people into a compact box? Does it make you feel better to view the world through a black-and-white lense? Life is a lot more complicated than that. We all have our own subjective lived experiences, and people think the way they do for a myriad of reasons. This notion of “if you’re not 100% with me, you’re against me” is part of why Democrats lost this election. Me being an independent means you have an opportunity to win me back and get me to vote for your candidate next time. So far, you’re not making me feel particularly welcome, though. You’d think the party who calls everyone else a cult would welcome people with an open mind who don’t blindly adhere 100% to any singular party or person. 🤷‍♂️@Not_Soos
I think they’re just pointing out that you’re conveniently not responding to those of us who have raised good, factual points that a level-headed person like yourself should be acknowledging, but instead you keep steering down this path of “you’re just not willing to see things my way” that we’ve all heard a million times.Look, I’ll level with you: we all get lied to. We all get played. Trump cares about one thing: himself. And the “waste” he’s been finding and the cuts he’s been making are all going to be wiped out (and more) by his massive tax plan he’s gonna pass that will largely benefit rich people like himself. His attorney general has already stopped American search and seizures of Russian oligarch assets. His health director has never been a doctor and has no health policy experience. His education secretary has never been a teacher. And he’s given our government over to the richest man in the world who conveniently has lots of lucrative government contracts with his many companies. It all reeks. It’s all corrupt. He’s playing you with fake issues like the trans stuff (few and far between issues that should just be handled on local levels) to distract from enriching himself and his friends all at the expense of our quality of life.Removed – flaming/arguingAdd that to the list of needless problems caused by collective stupidity.🤷‍♂️ I’m happy with the direction of the country.Removed – off-topicRemoved – off-topicRemoved – unconstructiveI feel sorry for Americans…@EVIL-C There’s a great skit by This Hour has 22 minutes that came up today you should check out! From a fellow Canadian here lol@Desrever That’s some perfectly timed humor. Thanks. Needed that!@Desrever listen, that’s one of the best memes we’ve ever gotten – huge W for gamer humor everywhere. Also I have my own politics, but catch me talking about them in a NintendoLife article smhLast time Trump was in office, prices dropped and peace was made with other countries. How soon we forget. Now he wants peace between Ukraine and Russia, taxes dropped in multiple areas (more money in your pockets), lower medical expenses, and fair tariff cost for our country. Just to name a few. Yeah, he’s a real jerk. Anyone really following politics or just reading headlines? Analyst also thought Kamala was going to win.@Splash_Woman nah, everyone is going to suffer from this, especially the US and canada.trump is pushing a lot harder, and a lot more desperately than he did the first time he was president, not surprising as he had to watch most everything “good” he did get ripped apart by joe’s team and 2 wars start all the while he kept getting hit with lawsuit after lawsuit. @TenEighty well, the left sure as hell didn’t think her or joe were going to win. hell, their internal polling showed that biden was going to lose to trump with most states going red so she did a lot better than they expected. It would be great if America could just screw itself and leave the rest of us alone.@Not_SoosGood suggestion! I’ll do that now.I was expecting to block half the commenters, but luckily Nintendo fans seem to be an unusually sane bunch.@MrCarlos46 they are produced in china not japan@Kiyata I actually get most of my Switch games physically and the barcode info does show “Made in Japan.”@jojobar Check the back of Switch games boxes. They literally say “Made in Japan.”You might be referring to the console itself, but even if you were, it’s also manufactured in Vietnam and Cambodia.@TenEighty I know I’m not able to convince you from the opposite but maybe I can convince you to look in your arguments more deeply.First of all not every thing that happens during a presidents time is caused by that president. Also some decisions he made might have caused an effect after his period. That the US and most of the rest of the world had an inflation had nothing to do with anyone in the white house. All economic scientist say having tarifs is bad for the consumers. That the US is exporting less than they import is partly also a problem of the items they sell. if americans wouldn’t order that much trash from temu or amazon it would help already. and that no one wants american cars except of tesla is just because others make better once.@MrCarlos46 thanks for pointing out. I could have bet they were made in china. its still possible that parts of them were made in china but not sure if it’s effected by tarifs then@RainbowGazelle If publishers don’t find it profitable to make physical games for the biggest market (the US) it might very well not be worth the cost to produce them at all. We live in a global economy. A disturbance in one area can have cascading effects across the rest of the World.@jojobar More specifically. Trade deficits aren’t necessarily a bad thing anyway. In fact it’s really beneficial to the US that we get cheap crap from China. Instead of manufacturing $9 bedside lamps or $8 HDMI cords we manufacture stuff like complex aerospace and biomedical science technologies.@MrCarlos46 Well Trump has already threatened to put tariffs on Japan too. So gamecards being manufactured there might not help for long.@Ultimapunch Is Trump against things being made outside of the US or what? Why is he even implementing these tariffs to begin with?Absolute rank stupidity.@MrCarlos46 So. I don’t really know how to answer that because I don’t think even he knows why he wants them. He’s complained that trade deficits are like the US subsidizing other countries. Obviously that doesn’t make sense. Trade is inherently something that benefits both parties. If anything trade deficits might help the US. We get useful things from other countries and all we really give them in return are greenback paper bills. He obviously seems to know that foreign countries don’t pay tariffs since he warned Americans that times will be tough. He’s also said he’s using them to get concessions from other countries. But that doesn’t really make a lot of sense either since the complaints he’s had about Canada basically don’t exist. He’s complained about drugs and criminals coming into the US from Canada but actually way more drugs and criminals get into Canada from the US than the other way around. So honestly I think he kinda just likes to trip on power and enjoys being disruptive. That last bit is my personal speculation but honestly your guess is as good as mine.I have no fears because a majority of the Switch games I own or plan on owning are either Import or Limited print, lol@Ultimapunch Pretty soon he’s gonna end up starting a trade war with not just our allies, but other countries.@MrCarlos46 Well he already started one with China a month ago. And by all accounts the EU is probably not far from his crosshairs. He’s already threatened Japan. Honestly Russia is about the only country he hasn’t threatened with tariffs at this point.@Ultimapunch Yep, Americans think they’re the centre of the world. Just try to get Japan to stop producing physical games. Lol.Welp, physical media did not need Trump tarifs to die. They just want you to not own your products anymore. And they will give any reason to justify not supporting physical media anymore”Ohhhhhhhh but Trump tarifs make it impossible to produce physical media anymore”Yeah sure, like it is hard to manufacture CDs and other stuff in the US@JustMonika Expect those imports to be 20% more expansive soon .@UltimapunchI think the only reason Trump is making those tariffs is to pressure other countries to obey the US. He doesn’t want to have those tariffs for a long time he just want to have a lever in other negotiations. BUT I think he is misjudging this and this will come back like a boomerang. All of the US allies are already upset and are gonna prepare counter actions. This is just not helping anyone.I believe in people should tread other people with kindness and with respect and Trumps politic is the opposite of this. Only hate hate and more hate… I’m pretty sure mankind don’t needs this.Would the US finally have to pay as much for physical games as we do in Europe? Removed – off-topicRemoved – off-topic@jojobar So America should just keep bending over for other countries as we watch our economy collapse and leave nothing but our children to fix this later? Yeah, that’s logic that will never work.@Tasuki He won by plurality, not majority. Less votes than Biden in 2020. Disappointingly one of the lowest voter turnouts in a while. People’s lives were on the line and they didn’t care. Now they’re getting their Medicaid cut, families stripped away and taxes raised.@TenEighty America depends on globalization and immigrants. Keep having that “America first” mindset and all you’ll have is a national collapse@Edwirichuu No one ever said it wasn’t. “America first” is just Americans proud of their country and want it to be a leading nation. Should we not care and just let it collapse like your comment?I’m waiting for us to win. We don’t seem to be winning yetAssuming the tariffs do hit Japan, where else could Nintendo move physical media production for Switch 1 and Switch 2 games?@HSRW101 If it’s the PeePee one getting shocked, that was amazing! 🤣 22 Minutes has been absolutely killing it lately with the satire! 👏 🤣 Show CommentsLeave A CommentHold on there, you need to login to post a comment…Nintendo Confirms Removal Of Switch Online SNES GameSuper Soccer will “no longer be available”Nintendo Discounts Several Games On Switch For MAR10 Day (North America)”I’m a slasher… of prices!”Nintendo Runs Out Of Replacement Parts For 2DS Systems And New 3DS LL, Ends Repairs In Japan”We apologize for any inconvenience”Mario Day Celebrations Begin With Free Switch Online Trial (US)Available for a limited-timeMy Nintendo Store Adds Two Mario-Themed ‘Exclusives’ (US)Fancy a Mario bag or license holder? 3Opinion It’s Taken 30 Years, But ‘Terminator 2D’ Could Right A Childhood Wrong 1News A Hotline Miami-Inspired Game Developed By A Japanese Hip Hop Group?
