A Surprising Update About ‘American Primeval’ Season 2 On Netflix – Forbes
American PrimevalAmerican Primeval has been the most successful new show of 2025 here on Netflix, spending a lot of time at #1, unseating Squid Games season 2 which has been putting up record numbers. And as such, is it destined to get a season 2 itself?Well, it’s complicated.American Primeval was marketed as a miniseries, meaning it was supposed to be a self-contained feature. And while some miniseries can break out of that format (one of the most famous being The White Lotus, and now, Shogun), that doesn’t always happen. But a new development with American Primeval appears to be a compromise between staying a miniseries and getting a season 2.The idea here is that there would be a spin-off American Primeval, rather than a true season 2 with a returning cast. When asked about the character of Isaac being “ripe for a prequel series,” creator and director Peter Berg had this to say in an interview with THR:“We’re talking about it right now. Good pick. That’s the way we’d go if we do it, and I don’t know if we will, but that would be the way we would go.”So not only are they saying “yes we are definitely talking about it,” but they’re confirming that if it did happen, it would be this prequel spin-off for Isaac as proposed here. But they were also asked about season 2, and the response there was less promising:American Primeval“Well, one of the challenges there is that Shawnee and Preston, the actors that played Two Moons and Devin, we had enough trouble because the strike got us. We had to shut down for five months, and Preston went full puberty on us and gained three inches [in height] and his voice dropped and he started having hair on his face. It would be a real big time jump to keep that crew going, but the idea of looking backwards is really interesting to me.”It’s essentially a prequel or nothing for American Primeval, and given how into the idea Berg seems, and how well the show has performed, I would say that this seems likely.
