Nintendo Museum Launches Keychains That Play Your Favourite Console Jingle – Nintendo Life

Y’know, the start-up tune that would play whenever you boot up the system. Much like the consoles themselves, they represent a moment in time; a nugget of nostalgia that effortlessly brings back cosy memories in just a few short seconds. Now, Nintendo is looking to provide that nostalgia in the form of keychains available at the Museum in Kyoto, Japan (thanks, Nintendeal). Presented in what looks to be simple cube designs, the keychains will play the relevant console’s start-up tune, though we can’t tell exactly whether this is via a simple button press or some other form of input.Nintendo Museum just dropped new merch
Keychains that play the console’s startup soundWe have to admit, we’re a little disappointed at the seemingly basic physical design of the keychains, but then we have to remember that Nintendo already has similar products in the form of controllers/handhelds and button modules, so we’ll just have to make do with the cubes. Heck, at least it would kind of make sense for the GameCube, right?Speaking of which, we’d be first in line to grab the GameCube keychain; that start-up tune is the absolute bee’s knees. Though we’d also be quite partial to the Wii and GBA, too.In fact, our beloved Jim recently spoke on his desire for a new start-up jingle for Switch 2, and we asked you fine folks what your personal favourite tune was, too. With a whopping 47% of the vote, GameCube won in a landslide.Jingles, all the wayWould you like to own one of these console jingle keychains? Are you, like us, mad that they’re limited to the Nintendo Museum? Let us know with a comment.[source bsky.app]About Ollie ReynoldsNintendo Life’s resident horror fanatic, when he’s not knee-deep in Resident Evil and Silent Hill lore, Ollie likes to dive into a good horror book while nursing a lovely cup of tea. He also enjoys long walks and listens to everything from TOOL to Chuck Berry.Comments 31So cool even if they’re just cubes designwise, would absolutely get them all if I visited the Nintendo Museum (definitely want to go there sometimes, just don’t know when I’ll be able to visit Japan in general)… so it’s too bad that there’s the limit of one per person for each item and if I recall correctly unfortunately variants count as the same item – would love to be proven wrong, though! But how will I hold down Z on the gamecube one?Hopping for a 64DD keychainI’ll take the Wii and Wii U ones thank you very muchOh wow. I personally find that Wii & Wii channels ambient sounds are masterpieces. Extremely sophisticated yet soothing.Wait … there is a jingle when you start up the Switch ? .. Do they mean the one when you slap the joy-cons into the rails?Okay, this reminds me of something I’ve been rolling around in my head lately. It’s a bit weird and abstract, and tied in with a lot of odd trivia, so don’t mind my rambling, but here goes:The GameCube menu music is the Famicom Disk System startup jingle slowed to 128th it’s normal tempo, in a softer synth set. This is true.”Vaporwave” is the remixing of corporate art by typically doing things such as, for one, slowing down the startup chimes of 90s and 2000s electronics.Yet, vaporwave is also considered outsider art, and Nintendo did the slowing-down of the jingle themselves officially on the GameCube menu screen. Can a corporation, technically, “vaporwave itself”, or is the fact that it is official invalidate it as “vaporwave” because it’s internal and not external?Kinda like the “God’s immovable object” paradox, or as I prefer “Could Neil Peart of Rush write a drum solo so complex he himself could not play it?”LOL enjoy my morning ramble those are so cute! i wish nintendo museum could open in NA 😹😔Look a little chunky to fit into your trouser pocket (behave yourselves at the back).Happy and sad. Happy as these are awesome and much like the button/controller stick ones a while back I want them all. Sad because I know I’ll never be able to get them and the eBay scalpers will be out in force milking you up to the eyes for them while also trying to come back for your sockets too.Missed opportunity to make the GameCube one look like an actual GameCube.@Yalloo It may refer to the song the switch plays the first time it is booted up from factory settings.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tmRNnOMdOvU&pp=ygUOc3dpdGNoIHN0YXJ0dXA%3DI love the Wii U startup jingle despite not owning a Wii U 😭Hopefully they are buyable with some sort of Nintendo rewards points in the future@vitaminj Not just Z. There was one or two other alts…These along with those button keychains would be absolutely prime for My Nintendo rewards, the kind of stuff Club Nintendo used to bring. If Nintendo wants some crazy good engagement on those platinum points, they should bring back the annual rewards for reaching point goals and have something like a set of those keychains. I’d spend hours doing pointless surveys again for that. But yeah, that design. Cube is fine and cute but a miniature of the console or controller would have been outstanding.@Spider-Kev don’t make me buy 4 tickets to the place so I can buy 4 doohickeys to get the samurai sound!@Ryu_Niiyama Thanks! I must have heard this one three times and it maybe vaguely rings a bell, but not enough to become nostalgic … unlike the joy-con snap. Thanks for looking it up ✌🏻@vitaminj Wait, what? You can only buy one per admission? That’s insanity! No museum has ever been like that!@Spider-Kev Both alts used Z. There was the default, holding Z on 2-3 controllers, and holding Z on 4 controllers. No others afaik.Anyone want to grab me a Gamecube one and sell it to me for 10x the value?@Yalloo No problem. I heard some folks didn’t always hear the sound for some reason or another (like docking and their tv hadn’t loaded the input yet). And since it is a one and done…Thosee are good, but ps1startup has the heaviest nostalgia for me.Happy to see you sharing different social media platforms than X Really really cool, just a shame they’re just big cubes and not more bespoke to match the design of the consoles. They aren’t really practical to use on your every day keys if you carry them in your pocket. I’d pick Gamecube, then GBA if I could.@Axecon Maybe My Nintendo Rewards. If only they can also start doing free shipping for My Nintendo Rewards stuff.I don’t even remember the fanfare that accompanied the Switch click on the first startup. I definitely remember the initial click though.Yeah, I don’t love that these are cubes. It would be super cool to have them be little console replicas. But those are more expensive, apt to break, etc.I am also bothered by the inconsistency with the visuals on them. The color scheme choices are strange. Like, they used one to match the Game Boy screen color? And the Switch is red? But all the others are either black or white? And why, specifically? And 7 of the 9 use the official logos. But then the one for what I think is the Famicom uses the start screen. And even weirder, the Wii uses an image of the channels screen?? I know it’s similar to the Wii U, but it’s the same issue with DS and 3DS. Just bothers me.Also, no Super Nintendo/Famicom??? That’s a strange omission.@LavaTwilight I’m going in two months, actually. But that’s a long wait.I have tickets for May! I don’t really know what to expect at the museum but that’s half the fun and I’m really excited!@AussieMcBucket …do you expect Ninty to do a Satellaview or FDS one?Kinda ugly but I still want that Gamecube one! No console jingle has ever been better.
