Hello Kitty Island Adventure Sales Surpass Half A Million In 30 Days – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpThe physical Switch version is out this monthThe cute social sim Hello Kitty Island Adventure arrived on the Switch earlier this year and was well-received, even if it did borrow a fair bit from certain powerhouse games within the genre. It seems the hard work has paid off for Sunblink, with the team announcing the title has now surpassed 500,000 sales across Switch and PC in just 30 days. Sales will likely be bolstered with the upcoming physical Deluxe Edition. In case you missed it, this hard copy will be hitting shelves on 25th March 2025. The Deluxe Edition comes with the base game, over 300 unique items and rewards, including “starter and crafting bundles” and a “year’s worth of legacy clothing, furniture, and cosmetics” from past seasonal events. This game originally made its debut on the Apple Arcade before arriving on Switch and Steam this year. Here’s a bit about the Nintendo release from our review:”Hello Kitty Island Adventure proves an innovative entry into the social sim genre. While borrowing from multiple powerhouse games, it brings a fresh experience that is likely to subvert the expectations of any Animal Crossing expats looking for their next cosy fix.”Have you tried out this game on the Switch yet? What do you think of it compared to certain other games under the same genre? Have been waiting for the physical release.@FishyS – What’s the overall game loop? Like Animal Crossing or The Sims?@CRB1984I can field that! It’s more like a standard life sim, like a farm game without money. You walk around your island giving gifts to everyone to up your friendship and picking up resources as your basic loop. While that is happening, a surprising number of quests pop up, some being friendship related, some expanding the island and unlocking new characters. It’s much … deeper then I was expecting. I’ve played every day since launch and new core quests are still popping up.By the “end game” most of your time is spent finding the right way to decorate cabins so that new people will move in over time, celebrating special events and birthdays.@CRB1984 the mobile roots of the game are evident in the game loop; it’s sort of half like animal crossing and half like dailies. It’s a little odd in that game time mostly isn’t dependent on real time so it doesn’t matter if you miss a few days but how many actions you do is limited by real days (plus events are seasonal based on real days). The main daily task is to give gifts to all the villagers. And you can also harvest, craft, fish, catch animals, etc. every day. And there are various daily/weekly questsThe main way it is different than animal crossing is the more rpg-ish quest system. Also there are puzzle dungeons and things like that. And a fair amount of exploration. In the long run you also have lots of houses to decorate so that part has a bit of an ACNH happy home paradise DLC feel.Compared to ACNH, all the npcs have both more personality and simultaneously even worse dialogue. Basically talking to them randomly doesn’t give dialogue but they all have a lot of plot and lore.Ooh, also you get to be an animal yourself rather than a human which is nice. Can’t wait for the physical release.I don’t know how but my dumb*** read the headline as 30 million copies sold.
500k in 30 days makes a lot more sense lol@Zaruboggan MK8D, watch out! Kitty’s coming for your crownCan’t wait for my physical copy.Love to see it, hope it keeps on selling and I’m looking forward to playing it myself when my physical copy arrives and I have the time for it!Target has been offering me a 2 month trial of Apple Arcade. Never clicked on it b/c I didn’t have a reason, this might be that reason. 2 months will probably be enough. And free is better than $40. Wonder if I could get AA to stream to my TV from my iPad?🤷‍♂️After finally hitting the wall on playable but frustrating Metroidvanias, taking 2-3 dozen attempts to beat some bosses, I started looking for a change of pace.Having never played a game like this, unless Fae Farm (which I enjoyed) counts, I stumbled across HKIA, read some reviews, and took a chance.I ended up enjoying it for quite a while, until (like a lot of games) repetition finally got to me. But I did like it more than I expected, and it opened my eyes to this type of game.I have since moved on to Disney Dreamlight Valley (did I actually say that?) when they recently released a major update and put it on sale (PS5 for me). I have really been enjoying DDV, and am looking forward to Fantasy Life i (never played the original). At this point in my life, it’s nice to play a game that isn’t one violent (and too often frustrating) encounter after another. Will probably go back to Metriodvanias and aRPGs at some point, but enjoying my time away for now.
