Jon Stewart Suffers Gruesome Injury On ‘Daily Show’ Set As Segment Goes Awry – HuffPost

Deputy Editor, Trends, HuffPostJon Stewart accidentally cut open his hand on Monday night’s “Daily Show” after shattering a mug on his desk as he railed against the pharmaceutical industry.Stewart spent much of the opening monologue criticizing President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk’s efforts to make budget cuts via their Department of Government Efficiency program. Stewart called himself “DOGE curious” and said he also would like to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse ― then went after the effort for instead targeting everyday workers and relatively low-cost programs.He slammed DOGE for not taking on the oil industry, which reaps billions in government subsidies, and pharmaceutical companies, which develop drugs with the help of taxpayer money and then sell those medications back to the public at top dollar while also enjoying extra protections from the federal government. Stewart smashed his mug in outrage: His hand began bleeding almost immediately. “I”ll be going to the hospital,” Stewart said after a quick look at the injured hand, which he kept out of sight behind the desk for much of the rest of the segment.When he brought it out near the end of the monologue, still bleeding, the audience groaned in unison. “It’s fine!” he yelled as he looked at the damage. Later in the show, during an interview with Georgetown Law’s Rupa Bhattacharyya, Stewart continued to keep that hand out of sight ― and when it did briefly appear, it was bandaged but with blood still seeping through. “Oh wow, this thing’s really coming out,” he said.
