NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080 Added To The List Of GPUs With Missing ROPs, The First Reported Case Yet – Wccftech

Another case of missing ROPs was spotted and confirmed, but this time it’s the GeForce RTX 5080, confirming our fears about a widespread problem. We have another confirmed case of missing ROPs (Raster Operations Pipeline), which is the fifth one in a row in two days if we consider such reported cases, including the RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti GPUs. Looks like the more users verify the specs of their cards, the more they find out that they have a nerfed GPU.This is the first-ever reported case of the GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, which was launched alongside the GeForce RTX 5090 on 30 January. It is the second-fastest GPU in the RTX 50 series and is officially priced at $999 for the Founders Edition and the base models from other vendors. However, a hefty price tag couldn’t save it from shedding some ROPs, as we have a user on Reddit spotting it on the GPU-Z program. The user u/gingeraffe90 posted a screenshot of his GPU-Z window, revealing that his RTX 5080 features only 104 ROPs instead of the specified 112 ROPs. The specs have been validated, which proves that the RTX 5080 with missing ROPs exists. It shows that NVIDIA tried to hide that the RTX 5080 could be affected by this problem. It recently issued a statement that only RTX 5090/5090D and RTX 5070 Ti are affected by this problem and the total number of affected GPUs is less than 0.5% of total units produced. Even though this is just a single case of missing ROPs on the GeForce RTX 5080, it’s likely that we will encounter some more in the coming days.If you don’t know, the ROPs play a crucial part in raster performance and directly affect the Pixel Fillrate. This may result in noticeable performance regression, and the final results will be inferior to what you would expect. NVIDIA says that the performance difference will be around 4% on average, which is still something to be furious about, considering users are paying the full price. At this point, this needs to be investigated, given that the issue seems to be growing, and with time, it can signficantly scale up into something much more problematic for the general consumer GPU industry.News Source: RedditSome posts on wccftech.com may contain affiliate links.
