Poll: Are You Playing Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii? – Push Square

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpPush SquareGuestLogin or Sign UpA pirate’s lifeBelieve it or not, it’s already time for a brand new Like a Dragon adventure — although this one’s not your typical Yakuza title. In fact, it’s probably the most out-there take on the franchise yet (PS3’s Yakuza: Dead Souls aside).Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is another ‘shorter’ game — just like last 2023’s Gaiden — starring the one and only Goro Majima. The Mad Dog himself is back in the lead role for the first time since Yakuza 0 (or Yakuza Kiwami 2 if you really want to get technical about it), and as the title implies, he’s taking to the high seas aboard his very own pirate ship.We had a lot of fun with this one, giving it a solid 7/10 in our Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii PS5 review. We described it as “a thoroughly enjoyable side game” and “a flamboyant distraction between mainline entries”.Noah’s arcBut are you partaking in this pirating escapade? As always, have your say in our poll, and then tell us all about your swashbuckling ambitions in the comments section below.About Robert RamseyRobert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.Comments 62Haven’t started yet but I will tonight. It’s my little treat to myself after a hip replacement (no, I’m not 80. I’m 79). Majima with his own game is going to be amazing no matter whatAfter playing a couple of the Yakuza games and enjoying them, I have had no desire to ever go back to them again. This scoring 7s hasn’t changed my mind.I may try LAD one day seeing as that changed the formula up a bit.Wish I was, but I spent too much to play MH Wilds on a new PC. I will buy this game some time this year though (probably after I finally beat Infinite Wealth)!Love Yakuza/LAD and this is 100% my kind of game. Just waiting on a good sale!Yessssss and enoying it a lotNot gonna lie…Avowed has the hooks in big time. I’m loving this game. It’s like vibrant skyrim-lite with substantial combat and is well voiced acted and has a great upgrade/crafting kinda systemI’m a little tempted, the gameplay looks pretty wacky and fun. However, I think I’m happy playing the main entries and skipping the side games.I burned myself out on the series back on PS3, and I think playing one of these every couple of years is the right amount for me. I still haven’t finished Infinite Wealth yet.Yakuza games is one of the only few games that i just buy blindly on release, and I’ve never been disappointed so farI got Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Avowed on the go so this is wait for a saleI honestly didn’t know what this series is anymore. But if people like it, more power to ’em.I started this franchise a few years ago, currently I’m playing Yakuza 5, but I will play every game, so down the line I will embark in Majima’s adventure!! Love this character, one of gaming’s best!!No no desire play this of or any more yakuza games or spin offs i completed the 1st one but I’ve lost interest in the million sequels sinceI used to adore Yakuza series and played and finished every single translated game. But this one will be the first one I won’t touch. Yakuza 0 found success in the west and gave birth to the new fans for whom Yakuza is clownage and fake Majima. And Pirate Yakuza looks like a game especially made for those people.Never got into the series due to the long cutscenes and repetitive combatNot yet im still playing other games.im a huge fan of yakuza like a dragon games.word up sonwill grab when its 20 bucks i tried the demo and it did not pull me in at all@Nyne11Tyme I tried avowed the controls feel off and I dont like the weird cartoon graphics , I went back to KCD2 far superior in every wayWaited too long before pre-ordering the Collector’s Edition on Amazon so I’ll have to wait until the middle of next week for it to arrive. I did play the demo, which was very fun.Played every game that’s come out in the uk/eu since 2005. Hoping , Yagami gets a new gane soon. Got the gane delivered on Thursday but busy with trails through daybreak II@Medic_alert
Why would you need to go back to them when they take 100-200hrs to finish to 100% and come out at such a quick rate?@freddquadros Yakuza 5 is my favourite. I envy you getting to newly experience it.@Nekomichu Same! Best Buy failed me on my preorder and the only reason I’m able to play it right now is thanks to one of my local GameStops having a spare copy. This thing sold out INSTANTLY in my neck of the woods, and Best Buy apparently got too many preorders in my area.Just started chapter 2 and I’m having a blast!I have it installed and ready to go. I’ll get to it as soon as I’m done with Trails through Daybreak II.Haven’t finished infinite wealth yet@thefourfoldroot1 I’m loving every minute of it!! Just reached Akiyama’s chapter. Yakuza/LAD is becoming one of my favorite franchises ever!!Nope but only because Monster Hunter is out next week. I wouldn’t finish this before that so I’ll probably get it later in the year like I did with Infinite Wealth.@freddquadros It’s already taking over from Final Fantasy as mine, and FFVII is what made me truly fall in love with gaming as a kid.Waiting on the new project RgG is working on.@ButterySmooth30FPS same here, man. These games are amazing. I’m a bit strapped after buying KCD2 and MonHun this month but as soon as there’s a price drop I’ll bite.I used to be a big fan of the series since PS2 era. But after playing plenty of Yakuza games, i just feel it’s time to moved on from the series. And I’m not gonna play Pirate In Hawaii.Tried the demo. I find it a bit hard to reconcile the traumatised gangster from Yakuza Zero with this wacky pirate dude who has magic powers.I’m certainly interested in playing this. Not every Yakuza games needs to be completely off the rails, but a Majima pirate game is the right way to do a weirder entry. The only thing stopping me from playing it immediately is that I’m still behind on the series, and playing the earlier games.Finished Lost Judgement Wednesday night ready for my pre-order to come today. Only Royal Mail decided not to deliver. It was shipped on Wednesday from Hit.co.uk (pre-ordered at £39.85) so hopefully it’ll come tomorrow.Meantime I’ll continue with the school side quests in LJ (Judgement and Lost Judgement are both fantastic games and I can highly recommend them).I’ve bought at least five Yakuza games, and abandoned them all. They’re all so utterly disrespectful of the player’s time. And seeing as I’m not really “feeling” games in general of late anyways (besides Street Fighter 6 and Balatro), you’d have to pay me to boot this up.I’ve played them all, but this is obviously a spinoff and it doesn’t seem important enough to play. I will get the next main game though.I brought the game but I am currently stuck into KCD2. I think it will be a while before I finish KCD 2 but Avowed should be done in the next few days and then hopefully I can make a start. If not I will backlog it into summer as AC Shadows and Atomfall will consume gaming time in March and Expedition 33 In April. I also need to finish Trails Through Daybreak so I can purchase the sequel.I do really like RGG but I do have a preference for turn based so this one isn’t an instant play even though I know it will be fun. For others who are on the fence, I’d say wait for a summer sale at 40-50% off.The Yakuza / Like a Dragon games have been talked up the last couple of years enough that I look forward to trying them, but I haven’t actually had the time to pull the trigger on one yet, despite having several through essential.@Nyne11Tyme What a amazing game it is ,have not been so hooked on a game like this in along time. Hope it comes over to PS so everyone can play it .@lazarus11 to be fair I don’t think either were trying to be in each other’s space. They are vastly different titles. I don’t have the capacity to pick flowers for 3 hours to get a dagger and learn how to shoot a bow beyond 5 feet for the first several hours. I appreciate what the game does and am glad many enjoy but to say I don’t like avowed because it’s not like KCD2 makes no sense and perfect sense at the same time.I bought pirate yakuza because I’ve bought every Like a Yakuza at launch since 2, I don’t plan on playing it anytime soon because I’m at least 3 to 5 games behind. This is a joke, the next Yakuza will be in the space with ETs.Bought from BestBuy online, but it won’t be delivered until a week after launch. @thefourfoldroot1 I mean go back to the series.I just started my first Yakuza game and while I enjoy it, I doubt I’m gonna binge the whole series. The insane rate in wich they put out bew titles is a major turn off.I’m anchored into a few dozen games at the moment so I’m in no rush to put £70 on this one, waiting for a sale when I can breathe a bit better 😉@Nyne11Tyme they’re not that vastly different , they’re both 1st person rpgs , although one is a Michelin star restaurant, the other mcdonalds , i shouldve played avowed first to be honest, then maybe i wouldn’t be so unimpressed with it, why pick flowers for 3hrs to get a dagger , when you can just wait till the dead of night and steal one.@JalapenoSpiceLife It’s £55, but yes, I’ll wait for a sale too unless I can pick it up physically somewhere.@JalapenoSpiceLife it’s £45 at smyths@CWill97 congratulations on the hip replacement hopefully u have a speedy recovery 👍Not too interested in the spin off games. I’ll just wait till it hits Plus ExtraThe second poll question is missing a major option – interested in the series but still haven’t started them.Maybe in the future.I’m kinda burned out on the series, at the moment.I kinda like the silly spin off idea in between mainline releases. It (kinda) fills the void saints row left behind when it comes to over the top silliness.Ever since I caught up with the series a few years ago I’ve been playing them all day 1.The only ones I haven’t played yet are Dead Souls and the ps2 originals of 1 and 2 but I do own them.Even played Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.12 hours in and still on Chapter 2🤣 Love this franchise@CWill97 stinger to go through that mate wishing you a speedy recovery. At the same time enjoy the game. I have it installed but not started yet (finishing off Silent Hill 2 remake first) but it’s up next after and Yakuza games are a fun kind of bonkers so should be a laugh.@Nyne11Tyme (#6) can’t wait for a PS5 GOTY or something, which I’m sure will come along! Not a fan of the brawler type gameplay, would’ve bought it if it was turn based. Looking forward to the next Ichiban mainline entry 😀Enjoyed Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami, interested in the rest of the series but there are just way too many of them and they take way too long to completeI love the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, but I just can’t see myself playing this. It’s premise is just way too ridiculous and I’ve grown tired of the real-time combat system.Still hope it does well commercially, as it’s a fantastic series.I much prefer the Judgment games more than the Yakuza/ like a dragon series so probably won’t be playing this one.@Dragoon1994 lol. Never trust a person who opens with ‘to be honest’. Little life tip.
