Former Nintendo Sales Lead Claims Retailers Know “Nothing” About Switch 2 Price – Nintendo Life

GuestGuestLogin | Sign UpNintendo LifeGuestLogin or Sign UpFollowing multiple rumoursSwitch 2 placeholder prices have been popping up all over the internet in recent weeks, so is there any truth to these retailer listings? Speaking on the latest episode of Kit & Krysta Podcast, a former Nintendo sales lead has apparently “set the record straight”.When asked if retailers are in the loop about the price of Nintendo’s new and highly anticipated next-generation hybrid hardware, he claimed these stores know “nothing” and “certainly not price”. Here’s the full exchange:Kit: “Something that’s happening a lot now is like some retailer will have some listing ‘Switch 2 $400’ and people will be like ‘oh, confirmed’ – what do the retailers know at this point in the game?”Sean: “Nothing, nothing…certainly not price, almost certainly not any kind of launch date other than maybe a quarter, it always makes me laugh to see these articles like ‘Walmart Canada says the price is going to be this’ Walmart Canada is the last people that are gonna know.”These comments follow some listings surfacing on certain retailer websites earlier this month suggesting a Switch 2 price could be cheaper than expected. Analysts have also chimed in with some estimates, and these rumours and predictions will likely continue until the system’s price is officially confirmed.Nintendo is holding a ‘Switch 2 Direct’ broadcast on 2nd April 2025, which will provide a “closer look” at the new system, so hopefully, there’ll be some information about the price then. It’s time for Switch 2What are your thoughts about the Switch 2 and how much it will cost? Let us know in the comments.[source youtu.be]About Liam DoolanLiam is a news writer and reviewer for Nintendo Life and Pure Xbox. He’s been writing about games for more than 15 years and is a lifelong fan of Mario and Master Chief.Comments 49Switch 2 is a secret to everybody, almost…Unlike these retailers, I know the real price of the Switch 2. You can trust me because Goomba is in my name. The real price will be $5000000, plus tax and paid shipping.@HotGoomba
Zimbabwe dollars, you mean.i’m so tired of waiting like please nintendo i don’t have the patience to wait until april. PLEASE.@OctolingKing13 Patience is a virtue, my friend: April will come soon enough. I suspect some of the game trailers we’ve been seeing recently are switch 2 footage too: call me crazy but do you really believe the footage from Xenoblade and Metroid 5 was of it running on the Switch 1? Because I don’t Back in the day not even my girlfriend’s uncle, who was regional manager for two states of Australia (more than 30 stores) knew what the price of the next Harry Potter book would be, let alone the name, until very very close to release.Nintendo loves embargoes too. Anyone willing to leak stuff can easily say bye bye to their job if they did.Friend of mine is high up in purchasing for a major U.K. retailer that has a very good relationship with Nintendo. They know neither price nor date.Meanwhile Nintendo’s like “They’re on to us! Someone do an interview and throw them off the scent!!!”I’ve always maintained that it’ll cost $399. Maybe $450, but that’ll be pushing it in my opinion.I think it’s either $350 or $400. The last 2 generations Nintendo has kept the price steady. I expect them to keep that up. They won’t want to start TOO high and costs will come down while the price will remain the same.@Dazman Switch? Monolith Soft originally made Xenoblade X sing on the previous generation’s Wii U. And what trailer footage of MP4 (which I dare assume you had in mind instead of Dread) ever looked like too much for a console running the likes of No Man’s Sky, Outer Worlds and Hogwarts Legacy? I know younger gamers like to paint Switch as a souped-up Atari 2600, but come on now. It’s $349, $399 or $449. We can’t expect it to be $299 this time if it’s more expensive to produce it and all the extra power added. As for the tariffs thing in the US, I think Nintendo will find a way around it by sending Switch 2 units produced in Vietnam to be sold in the US (and any other markets managed by Nintendo of America, like Canada and Mexico). That way they won’t have to deal with tariffs and increase the US price.@HotGoomba I only believe self-proclaimed “insiders”. You didn’t say you were one, but you’re a goomba, so this could be mushroom kingdom dollars or coins and I don’t know the exchange rate for this currency.I’m expecting £350-£450 which is fine by me for new tech. Can’t wait for people reactions from the April hands on events 😍FYI Sean also speculates that the Switch 2 will be released during or before the summer at $399-449 USD.@MrCarlos46
Nintendo already produces some Switch units in Vietnam and Cambodia, they’ll absolutely do the same for Switch 2.@westman98 I’ve never seen a unit that was produced in Cambodia, and Cambodia is actually pretty close to Vietnam.Heh. Things are heating up now! I have my own predictions but I’ll see if I’m right when I watch that April 2 Direct… at 6 AM. Of course these retailers just make estimates – as funnily enough Sean himself did according to a previous comment here – and/or sell in limited quantities before actually knowing Switch 2’s price and release date… but that will never stop journalists (including Nintendo Life) from writing articles about them – not that I personally mind it that much as it can start discussion, but it’s worth keeping that in mind!@nhSnork There’s not the usual stutter and fuzzy textures we’re all accustomed to on Switch 1: especially the stutter, as there’s not a single game with those sorts of graphics on Switch 1 which runs without stuttering frame-rate. Moreover, the games you listed don’t look as good as them: NMS has a weird glare that other versions don’t, for example.@Dazman no, actually @Dazman Xenoblade is a touched up WiiU port. The footage we’ve seen is absolutely from the Switch. Why are people so keen to figure out things early? Who cares? My dad is Nintendo and I can confirm that Walmart Canada is the last people that he told the price of Switch 2 to. 👍(Right after Lady Gaga, who was the second to last people he told.)Isn’t it common for retailers to list announced products with placeholder dates and prices? Sure, people are excited for this one in particular, but it’s certainly not something that only started happening “now.”@HotGoomba @Erigen … Nintendo gold coinsMy uncle works at Nintendo and he said it’ll be free …if you just sign the terms and conditions that may or may not include forced participation in corporate blood rituals, selling your soul to some kind of ancient pagan god …and an obligatory donation of any remaining gold points to fund Reggie’s upcoming TED Talk. This is also called counter action, it’s where the retail placeholder is lower than the actual and team Nintendo need to debunk the placeholder as it creates a false expectation. Eg placeholder price $400 actual price yet to be announced $500@Dazman the footage we’ve seen from XCX looks absolutely like it’s from the switch.@Erigen I remember living in Zimbabwe and paying over 1 million dollars for a meal about 25 years ago or so. At the time it seemed comically high. I’d saying the switch price is gonna be closer to 100000 million dollars. Give or take a billion or so.The NS1 uses hardware from 2014-2015 and is sold at a profit at 299.Considering the NS2 won’t have bleeding edge hardware 349 to 399 seems very plausible and profitable. It’ll be $400 (if lcd screen) – $450 (if OLED screen) US. Princess Peach told me in a dream.I’m guessing $350 USD. Any higher becomes out of reach for most players, specially when buying for young children.Of course they don’t. Not to get political, but there is too much chaos in the world right now anyway. The Direct can’t get here soon enough. Hopefully Nintendo can keep any other details a secret until then, unlike the hardware reveal which was spoiled by some of their partners. Still not sure how that was allowed to happen.Don’t listen to them but listen to us so like, comment and subscribe and make sure to click the notification bell.shrugs just make a budget and start putting a little aside each month. By the time the system comes out you will have the money. All the folks frothing at the mouth about Switch 2 rumors should have done this anyway. So, the speculation should be over, since the only people that “care” about those false leaks, only follow pages like these.@SalvorHardin So tired of hearing YouTubers tell me to do that. I will not like, subscribe, or click any bell. I will only watch what the algorithm places in my home page feed.@Vil That’s all? and here I was about to cut off my hand in sacrifice!@OctolingKing13 Better find something to distract yourself until then lol@nhSnork It “sang” with multiple optimization patches that got it barely up and running. They were massive download sizes, too. They’ve gotten better at optimization since then, but let’s not pretend that X was some sort of technical masterpiece. The world is very impressive and it’s doubly impressive that it ran on such old hardware, but there are definitely asterisks that need to be put in there.@Rhaoulos its 5000000 bananas currency from donkey kong country for switch 2.@Dazman Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, and Metroid Prime Remastered would all like to have a word with you about nice texture work combined with no stutter. …Also, seriously, XCX is a slightly touched up Wii U game, how could the Switch not handle it? And MP4 doesn’t look that different from Metroid Prime Remastered, which ran at a locked 900p with no frame drops.@Dark_Isatari So people know how much money to target saving up for it, I presume?@TenEighty even that is a push for old tech that wont be that much better than the switch. and kids arent like us parents they arent new console.@Anguspuss switch 2 is suppose to be slightly more powerful then ps4 or maybe at pro level specs so paying around $400 for it is quite reasonable.I think they are light, the retailers know nothing. But $ 400 is a price that makes sense.I suspect that there will be at least two SKUs at launch (if not two models). I suspect that the reveal was merely to keep speculation and leaks at bay, and that Nintendo have only teased us with the standard model so far. It’ll cost $400,000 to play the Switch 2 for 12 seconds.
